Just completed a game against green tea ai, got 1,937 in Resource Collection Rate (which I assume is what is meant by average income) and 1,344 in average unspent. I don't get what 10^2 and 10^3 etc means on the charts in the OP. Anyways, I guess that in itself gives a pretty decent SQ of around 80 or so? Workers created was 98 and the game was 21 minutes long. How do I tell if this is good? It felt like I was playing badly, but at the same time I feel like the numbers show a decent SQ. I never got supply blocked, but I didn't inject even close to as well as I usually do, it was definitely not diamond level macro. Your SQ was at 80, but your workers created was at 98 at 21 minutes long, whereas grandmaster zergs when the study was made made 110ish at that moment. It's up to you if you consider 110 to many drones, if so your macro is probably good enough. One thing to consider is that SQ doesn't take into account bumps and how fluid and effective your builds are, only how effective you are at burning money. Macro isn't about just spending money. You need to make the right things at the right time, so don't be surprised if you have the spending rates of a grandmaster player in a couple of games at plat-diamond levels.

Another important issue which isn't covered is when you get gas, since getting gas decently early and still keeping it low is harder than to go for tons of minerals for a long time and go crazy on mineral heavy units and buildings. Another important aspect is tech, since it's quite easy to stay on a few bases macroing roaches like crazy and just a-moving into your opponent to stay below max supply, rather than teching to broodlords without floating money. I tried a macro or die map and checked my SQ, and it was pretty interesting. I got about 82,7, which did net me a master grade on the map.

Out of the games I averaged at 77, however, my lowest was only 57 (with 1157 resource collection rate and 902 avg unspent), while the highest 95,5(1327 collection rate, 383 avg unspent)... I had the one game at 57, 3games in 60-70range, only 2 in the 70-80 range which includes my average, 4 in 80-90 and 2 over 90. I guess it doesn't even matter for anyone, but I just like statistics and thought I would share :3

![]() I used to use excel graphs and equations a lot in college and it's a great way to see trends. Hopefully it will help shed light on the many mistakes in my play.. Great job tho!!

I have noted that when I win, I'm playing at a high Platinum level compared to the low Platinum level I'm at when I lose haha

GM players 6 months ago, were significantly better (at 80some in average). It would be natural for me to conclude that players - in general - have become somewhat better in the meantime, and that if you played like you do now 6 months ago, you would have been in masters, but right now you are in ... top diamond to mid or low masters? because that's where the skill is now. It would be interesting if someone with too much time at their hands redid the original work to see where the average player was right now for each league - and then for the top 20 GM in Korea. But I feel bad for suggesting it because I know I wouldn't have it in me to do that. edit: Top 3 on GM on EU now are T Z P - Happy, Nerchio and Titan. Average last 10 games for SQ are 88, 89 and 86 - but Titan had two games in there where he was low 70s, and if I ignore those, his average is 89. So ... top GM, not tournament setting, on EU, is around 88 - 90 it seems when they are just playing normally. So I am thinking, 85+ is probably what you should average at the very least in order to claim to 'macro like a pro'. 90+ and you have a solid case ![]() A lot of people don't take into account the amount of pressure and aggression your opponent puts in. At lower levels, play is usually passive so it's easy to keep your money low. Top players continuously put on aggression so they have to multitask to macro. I remember almost every game probably around low-mid masters, when I playing Zerg I barely missed any injects and kept my money low all the time. I thought some of the top Zerg players were terrible at macro cause if I could do it then they should definitely be able to also. Then when I started playing High Masters/GM, I constantly missed injects and couldn't keep my money low cause they were more active with their units with drops or whatever. So yeah, you have to take into account your opponents when calculating your SQ. The better your opponents, the harder it is to maintain a high SQ I feel.

Anyway to improve, I'ld love to know to fix this if anyone can pm me some CONSTRUCTIVE info on things that could imrpove that that would be sweet and much appreciated. Definitely man. I would recommend you making a new topic in the strategy forum where you let us know your race, your general tactics and your issues with your macro supplying some replays, then we can give strong advice on how you can improve it. Overall though, play Macro Or Die maps to learn how to keep your money low, then, when you can do that, learn to optimize what you're spending your money on. As a zerg for example, if you get a ton of minerals, you can always spam overlords... but that's hardly very useful. Instead, building an expansion, a macro hatch, getting some upgrade, getting an extra queen or two etc is a better way to spend money... but if you can't even keep money low, you can't really worry about what you're spending it on, so it's always better IMO to learn to keep money low first.
