2024-25 Off-season Community Weekly Cups
Week of Jan 27 - Feb 2
by Wax
This week's competition saw the usual weekly cups joined by a number of bigger competitions, with Olimoleague holding its January finals while OSC hosted its 12th championship event. We also saw a couple of non-standard events, with the PiGosaur played as a throwback Wings of Liberty tournament, while the SC Evolution Complete mod (SC2 vs BW) invited players to compete for $600 in prizes.
Clem and herO split up the spoils in orthodox competition, while Dark and Spirit came out on top in the non-standard events.
*Partial brackets may be shown.
Jan 27: WardiTV Mondays #20
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/wardimon020.png)
Clem started the week strong in WardiTV Mondays, going on a perfect, undefeated run to clinch the title. No off-racing was required for the Liquid Terran, as he took down ShoWTimE, herO, and Classic on his way to victory. There wasn't much to say about Clem's performance, as it was the usual domination from the best TvP player in the world (VOD).
What was more eye-catching was a huge upset in the lower rounds, with Clem's rival MaxPax falling 1-2 to Nicoract in the RO16 (I couldn't find a VOD of this, so any info on this would be welcome).

Jan 27: Monday Night Weeklies #2
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/mnw02.png)
The newly created Monday Night Weeklies continued with its second tournament, continuing to fill the temporarily vacant EPT EU slot on the calendar. In fitting fashion for an indirect successor to the EPT EU cups, Clem and MaxPax continued their rivalry with another finals clash.
The two players actually clashed in three BO3's over the course of the double-elimination bracket—with Clem winning 2-1 in the winners' final, MaxPax winning the initial match of the grand final 2-1 to reset the bracket, and then

Jan 27: PiGosaur Cup / Monday Night Wings
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/pig017.png)
It was retro night in the PiGosaur Cup, with players trying their hands at Wings of Liberty (played on the final patch version before HotS). Unfortunately, this didn't interest many of the top pros, which gave

The most notable match was Dark and Mixu's finals game on Ohana, which was a best/worst hits medley of WoL PvZ that featured a Soul Train, BL-Infestor, and an Archon Toilet to end it all (VOD).

Jan 28: OlimoLeague January Finals
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/olimojan25.png)
Another herO vs Clem finals seemed to be on the cards upon the reveal of the OlimoLeague January finals bracket, but wild card Zoun had other plans. We had seen him recover his skills at a remarkable pace since returning from the military in September of last year, and he hit a new high point with a 3-2 upset over Clem in the semifinals (VOD). Zoun achieved his victory by overpowering Clem and straight-up games, looking just as good—or perhaps even better—than at the peak of his pre-military stint.
Unfortunately for Zoun, his PvP hadn't caught up to the level of his PvT, and he ceded the monthly title to

February 1: StarCraft Evolution League 2
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/scevo07.png)
The second non-standard tournament of the week came courtesy of the StarCraft: Evolution Complete mod, which adds the Brood War versions of Terran/Zerg/Protoss to StarCraft II (with tournament rules forcing every match to be SC2 vs BW). While I'm told the balance is somewhat iffy given the complexities of adjusting for six different factions, the SC: Evo mod still makes for some fun viewing given the sheer novelty of seeing two different games collide.
We didn't get any top Brood War players to test their skills, which left SC2 pros Spirit and Classic to face off in the grand finals. While Classic fought back from the loser's bracket to force a grand finals bracket reset, Spirit prevailed in the final BO3 to claim the first place prize (VOD).

Jan -13 February 2: OSC Season 12 World Championship
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/OSCWC12.png)
We returned to normal SC2 competition in the twelfth OSC World Championship. The giant bracket was actually played in installments since January 13th, with the final leg of the ~$4,100 tournament being played on February 2nd.
The online cup trinity of herO-Clem-MaxPax were pegged as the favorites to win the title, but we saw an unexpected interloper make his way into the final three. SKillous—an inconsistent but highly skilled (har har) player—was in top form for his lower bracket run, taking out NightMare, Cure, Gerald, ByuN, and herO on his way to the losers' final. While his run was ended there by the PvP virtuoso MaxPax, it was still a very impressive underdog run.
The grand finals was contested between MaxPax and Clem, who collided for the 188th time in their careers. The two rivals had been fairly evenly matched in 2025, with Clem holding the 5-4 advantage headed into the finals. While MaxPax had taken a huge win over Clem in the previous week's LiuLi Cup finals, Clem got his revenge this time around with a 4-1 victory (VOD).

February 2: HupCup #5
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/hup05.png)
The week's competitions concluded with the irregularly held HupCup, which returned for its fifth event. Amusingly enough, MaxPax and Clem rematched in the finals just hours after their OSC meeting, with Clem winning once more to take his third cup win of the week (VOD).
