For some reason, I'm still reading this thread and it's annoying to see the question asked twice per page as though they've just made the most brilliant discovery of the century.
Also, MULEs are 30 per trip, so 4 MULEs with 1 extra trip each is 120 minerals on regular patches, or 128 if you're on a High Yield base (which I believe was the initial scenario). What? That's only 8 extra minerals for 4 trips. Gold mules bring in more than just 2 more than blue mules per trip don't they??? For the record, a MULE on a gold mineral patch brings in 42 minerals per trip, up from the standard 30 minerals per trip. Also, you did misinterpret Kawaii's statement: he said that splitting workers was fine in BW since you only had to do it once, which is also what you said.
Well... yeah. He said it's NOT comparable to BW because you only have to do it once in BW. I was saying it IS comparable to BW because you only have to do it once in BW, but also only once in SC2. Unless I misinterpreted him, he's been saying you have to do the trick every time the worker tries to return minerals, when in reality you're just queuing up a ton of commands at once and not going back to it again.
|
After trying it myself, I could only manage to get two workers at once to perform the trip, not all four by any means. So it would take indeed a time sink of around 10s, which is a lot, however, there's no doubt it would still benefit to do it when you have time for mules even midgame.

Very nicely done, thanks for sharing.

I posted a replay link of me doing the trick in the Replay Thread... we can clearly see a slightly higher income and me getting a little ahead in my build... the interesting part of this is me and my opponent are both doing the same build so it's easy to compare....
here is a link if you're too lazy to go in the replay thread: http://www.sc2replayed.com/replays/82107-1v1-protoss-metalopolis#rd:dna

Another tool for the korean.

This is very interesting. It doesn't make me miss some of the BW "glitches", if you will, any less, though.

Wow very nice find OP! I don't think i'm at the level to be doing that yet but probably will put in a bit of practice on that. I have bad macro skills so this might distract me haha. Good find though in pro gaming that 7% can really make a difference early game.
|
Really nice find , tho I'd believe most of us will only be able to make use of it ever so little bit. But the higher level players ... "expecting some seriously sick early pushes in high lvl tournaments"

*woops, answered already*

Not sure which game you watched but i did send a scout...

I've been trying to figure this out. Why do people keep saying this? Holding down C doesn't stop people from automining at all.

i can imagine if the Insane computer can execute so many actions in such a short time, and if they exercise this trick on their scvs/mules, most likely they are undefeatble..

When did you have the slightly higher income?
|
Dam, this will help me increase my apm from 0 to 100 in the first minutes of the game.
|
Can someone post a replay where this technique actually sped up your build order?
|
I don't have a replay per se, but I do this trick all the time now, and believe me it works. When I have my pylon finishing that was built at 9, I already have #10 building, but 11 and 12 in the queue. It's crazy and it makes the pylon build about 1 second faster (if you build it right next to the mining probe instead of moving to wall off), but the gateway and the other stuff comes about 2-4 seconds faster, no shitting you. Sometimes I do mess it up though, but it is rare, just make sure you end with a click on the mineral patch.
Oh, and holding C absolutely does not work, you can see this visually even when the workers still show their split second return delay while holding C.

particularly mules on gold minerals would make a big difference
|
Good stuff, dont think I'll be using it unless everyone jumps on this boat.
|
Great for P, helps with that supply block and mineral shortage at 9 (It may be possible to chrono boost before the pylon is completed)
