I could see it happening.
I mean, it’s extremely unlikely he’ll be close to the same player come the next World Cup
He has very few boxes to tick outside of getting that trophy, outside of trading records with Ronaldo.
And I mean I’m sure he cares about those records but he doesn’t seem as consumed by them as Ronaldo.
I could totally see a likely final World Cup and a final crack at winning the Champions League being a last hurrah for him in top level European football

i dont think he will stay in europe for the records, he just doesnt strike me as a player that would relocate his family again for a retirement plan when hes more than capable of playing in top teams in europe that have cities probably more preferable to live in. i think the likelihood of moving back to barca would be higher than the mls

More likely Ronaldo plays in MLS than Messi.
Relatively speaking, of course. Chances of either of them moving there is between 5-10% in next 1-2 years.

So little? I see very few other options, especially for Ronaldo. Top clubs that can afford them aren't that interested in parading old legends around...like Man U is learning now.

Frankfurt advance from cl group - how great is that? Football wins

Group D was tight. At half time of the final game of the group stage, the teams that ended #3 and #4 were advancing. Fairly confident that's a first for CL.

That's why I put the caveat of 1-2 years. There's a good chance that Ronaldo may get a short term lucrative contract in some big European club. After that, chances of going to America, Asia, or Middle-East shoots up to about, say, 60-70%.
Messi is an enigma. But I feel he's less motivated on fame and money, and he'll play at whichever club that suits his style and philosophy. Seems like a long shot, but he may even fancy playing in Argentina or Brazil? Like a prodigal son who feels that he has something to prove to his homies.

i would actually put ronaldo at 0%. even less chance than messi. assuming he gets to play in a cl club, he will continue to play in europe for his records. going to mls is worthless for him because no one gives a shit about the mls, no offense to stealthblue. if ronaldo wants to stat pad his records he has to do it in europe.

If it wasn't for the ban on Russian sides right now I could have seen Ronaldo going somewhere like Zenit St Petersburg. Almost definitely going to be in CL in normal circumstances and would surely be the main man at the club regardless of his age.

Better MLS than rotting somewhere in China. Messi definitely wants to leave PSG. He has no love for the club or the fans Going back to Barca is unlikely IMO. Just when Barca is moving forward they would be going three steps back with a transfer like this.
I say Messi to MLS is at 30% at least I can see CR7 going to a Porto/ Benfica/ Sporting next season. MLS at maybe 5%

It feels like with Messi it could even come down where his buddies are playing when the contract negotiations are going on. I don't know who his top buddies are at the moment, but any MSL team able to lock in some suitable South American attacking talent probably has some shot at negotating with Messi too.
|
The only reason I can think of Messi wanting to join the MLS is to have a clean slate and play football free from all the drama and stress. For the sheer joy, fun and curiosity of the experience. Just like Zlatan. That's why Asia is an equally possible destination. Odd as it is, I can imagine Messi having a last hurrah in the J-League or K-league (which can be quite intense and challenging for a veteran).
Messi's whole bearded look seems to reflect his current head space - a jaded and weary war horse. Not surprised if he just decided to retire and go into some self-exile.
But yes, I also agree playing with best buddies can play a big factor as well. That's why he's stayed so long in Barca.
Between the two, I'm certainly more curious as to Messi's next destination. Honestly don't give a s**t about Ronaldo. Messi is someone I'll still pay to watch even if he's playing in some special senior league. Same as players like Zidane or Zlatan. Ronaldo? Meh... Many other players can do what he does (but he's special because he does it more consistently than others). Messi is a once-in-a-generation player. A true Messiah.

Unpopular opinion:
Sadio Mane was carrying Liverpool not Mohamed Salah.

Living in Miami could be easier for him and his family. South florida and being rich is super easy to adapt

I dont think he was carrying them but Klopp and staff totally underestimated his defensive work.

Mane's absence is felt more keenly because Diogo Jota is out injured all the time. He was still super important, but Jota can effectively play his role. There isn't anyone else in the Liverpool squad who can duplicate Salah

Players like Elliott are also more attacking minded than Henderson for example, which leaves TAA even more exposed and so on. Combination of multiple players underperforming with an unfortunate timing on the midfield & striker refresh and some injuries and you've got trouble.

Benfica and PSG with identical points, h2h and goal difference (16-7)
But Benfica in first place with more away goals overall (9 vs 6).
Let's go City, RM or Bayern vs PSG first round? xD

RM v PSG would be wild. Messi and Neymar for revenge. Mbappe to roll over?
Unpopular opinion - Salah and Mane are no greater than Kane and Son. Defence, solid midfield core, and Klopp's tactics carried Liverpool.
Midfield and defence wins championships. It's very rare that a team's success is down to a single mercurial star (even Maradona, Pele, Messi, and Ronaldo had other world-class teammates to back them up). If given a choice, I would rather have the world no 1 central midfielder rather than the world no 1 striker in my team. A top midfielder can feed 5 great goal-scoring chances on the platter for a mediocre striker to convert 2/5 times per match and restrict the other team's chances to almost nil. A mediocre midfielder can maybe feed 2-3 chances but also lose control of the midfield and allow the other team to have 3-4 more chances in return (the top striker will convert 1-2 chances but the team will still lose the match overall).
