That depends.... Can you get promoted or relegated?

If you disregard their loss on away field vs Real Madrid (pretty tough game for any team), they're looking at 9-1-0 with 27-1 goal difference. Yeah, that's a good point. I think I've watched their big games and apart from a good half vs Bayern or so, they've seemed pretty underwhelming. It's a pretty stark difference to how well they've been grinding out the league.
I think I've also seen some averages compared to previous managers and they haven't looked flattering for Xavi, but I think they're probably affected by some previous season slump or something.
At some point they're going to have to start winning some bigger games though. Maybe even EL has some merit to it if they can win some bigger names there.

European football’s money distribution and lack of effective costs controls, and increasingly specifically Premier League money is rendering other nation’s leagues into irrelevance. Plus distorting domestic league pyramids
The US system does also have flaws, but that’s not one.

Yes, you absolutely have to. Teams tanking on purpose in other US leagues (NFL -> Browns, Lions e.g.) is nothing fun and doesnt punish bad management of a team. Also for a team to have a chance to play in these leagues is all about money, they even blackmail cities to build them stadiums or else they move somewhere else. US leagues have not much you should take as a role model.

It is actually one of the biggest flaws and was also one of the strongest arguments against the proposed super league.

The Super League was close to the worst solution to some very real problems.
I wouldn’t be a fan of all aspects of the US model, far from it but at least for now it seems to result in a league that’s vaguely sustainable and expanding, and overall increasing the footprint of the sport.
I wasn’t actually arguing that no relegation or pyramids was the good thing, just some level of cost control and financial equalisation, didn’t make that clear in my last post

So Liverpool goes from beating City and then West Ham to losing against Nottingham (hadn't won in 9 games and was in the last spot) and Leeds (hadn't won in 8 games and was in the second last spot). They clearly still have a high top level but their inconsistency is shocking.
Newcastle is kinda the opposite. They're churning out consistently strong performances and frankly, they look like a genuine top 4 contender. The way it's looking, I'm surprised if more than 1 of Chelsea/United/Liverpool (all teams where missing CL is a disaster) makes it - and I actually think United looks the best of them. (United with 3-2-1 from the previous 6 games, but they played against every top 5 team, and only did poorly against City.)

I don't see Chelsea competing any time soon, we are literally Reece James FC and the stark difference of how shite we are when he isn't playing is disgusting. Add in Potter is very inexperienced at this top level and is trying some crazy ass formations playing people so out of position it is unreal. We got DESERVEDLY spanked 4-1 by Brighton who had not won in 5 xD
At this stage it is;
City - Arsenal - Newcastle - Spurs - Yanited/Chelsea/Scouse
Chelsea next two games by the way are Arsenal and Newcastle xD

The league is looking interesting, outside the title race which I think City will still ultimately steamroll.
There’s also few teams this season that look like they’ll be cut adrift at the bottom.
My assessment of Newcastle is they’ve been quite smart in building, but they can turn on the financial afterburners if they’re a bit ahead of schedule. I thought they’d maybe push into that Europa League challenger bracket, but they’re looking to be in the CL conversation so that might precipitate some splurging in January to accelerate their curve.
I guess the World Cup will have a big bearing too. Can be a bit of a momentum killer for those teams who are bang in form, for those who aren’t it’s a bit of a breather and time to reassess. Plus injuries/mental burnout that players who have bad World Cup experienced. Plus give your World Cup absentees a bit of a break.

Thing is, there's alot of teams at the bottom and i would say no-one is really getting cut adrift. Last season Norwich and Newcastle were really struggling very badly. In fact, 9 points after 12 games for the bottom team is the most since 2008 i think. I think the relegation battle should be interesting and even though Forest probably go down, I wouldn't be able to guess which other two teams get relegated. It could be anyone in the bottom half of the table right now, they're all within a few points of each other.
Its nice that Liverpool are proving their socialist credentials by sharing their points with those who need them the most <3

Yeah the world cup is going to be huge, not even just for players potentially coming back with back injuries, but in reality it is a big break with a mini pre season before it resumes for the busy xmas period. New season so the teams struggling could come back really strong and the ones who doing well might be struggling etc, a complete reset.

Ya wc def adds another layer of unpredictability, and might be a huge blessing for a currently underperforming team like Liverpool.

I was so worried after Saka got taken off but Nelson casually scoring two goals in three minutes kicks ass

Two goals and one assist in his first 30 minutes of PL. Pretty sweet debut.

Still top of the league baby

How the fuck was that not a red card? At least second yellow?!

Hm.... I mean if the Atlantic is reporting it.
Talks between Lionel Messi and Inter Miami have progressed to the point that the Major League Soccer franchise expect the Paris Saint-Germain forward to join them next summer, The Athletic reports.
Messi, 35, is out of contract at the end of the season, his second year in the French capital, and there have been reports of extending his deal with PSG or even a sensational return to Barcelona for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner.
However, The Athletic reports that negotiations with Inter Miami have advanced the farthest, with brothers Jorge and Jose Mas leading the talks on behalf of the club they co-own with David Beckham. However, that dialogue has been put on hold until after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which runs from Nov. 20 to Dec. 18.
Messi's arrival in MLS could have a similar impact on the profile of soccer in the United States as Beckham's own move to LA Galaxy did in 2007, especially with the World Cup coming to the U.S. in 2026.
Messi's form has been revitalised this season, with the Argentina captain scoring 10 goals in all competitions already and registering 10 league assists in a campaign after just 12 games, the quickest he has ever reached that mark.

The Athletic has a good track record, for them to report this there must at least be a fair chance of it happening imo.
