(as in more than 2 or 3 extra games per year) on covid, fully agreed.

He may well turn out to be manager of the year in the EFL this year. They've had a 21 points deduction and transfer embargoes and gone into administration and he's still managed to get them off the bottom of the table with a weak, demoralized squad. I didn't think he would make a good manager at all but he's working wonders there.

They’ve basically got a free hit without the pressure of expectation and players playing for their futures, with the easy to instil siege mentality. Plus fewer egos to deal with given those circumstances and such a thin squad. There’s a whole load of factors that would be present in a more normal season An administrator might be good at being ruthless and preventing a business going into oblivion, but they wouldn’t necessarily be the best option to run a regular business that isn’t crippled. Not to be a curmudgeon, Rooney’s been doing a fantastic job in this particular gig, I’m just not sure how much that would necessarily translate to the next one, or Derby if they find a buyer and more regular conditions are resumed

They look like they could manage to stay up, so the free hit aspect isn't going to stay there forever. At some point the pressure to stay in the Championship will really kick in and then we're going to see what they're made of. Other teams are strengthening to deal with injuries too, which Derby can't do, so they are at an even bigger disadvantage. A manager still needs to be able to implement that siege mentality and get the players really believing, and I'm surprised that Rooney has managed to do that, its not something I would have thought of him.

AFTV funny how the fans were so entitled to good football after only 10-15 years of being good. Compared to great teams in England football history they had a bit of time and jury out whether they will be more than just mid-table/europe team like many others for foreseeable.
