I think the first one might have been a foul btw, the Norwegian player on the goalline holding the keeper wtf Yes I agree. #2 looked like she pushed the keeper. Feel like Norway should have more though. They've controlled the play so much better I only watched bits and pieces, remembered that I wanted to look up a song and then spent an hour browsing live festival performances, good times

Definitely not the most exciting football. All my other sports are on offseason though
Well I guess that's why they are 6th. They finish their chances

When I watched them vs. France it looked like they were Mourinho school of bus parking graduates. Seems like that's how they roll.

I actually am positively surprised by this tournament, quality has gotten a lot better in a short time, but every time I think it hey this is actually okay something like this happens. One goal caused by bad goalkeeping and bad refereeing and another goal just because the keepers just aren't tall enough. And it's the same problems almost every single game.

They said In the Mexico vs England pregame that England had changed their lineup against France to add more defensive players but have since gone back to their normal lineup

Yeah it's improved rapidly seems like. I remember not long ago the US and Germany would just roll every team outside the top 5 like 4-0 or so.
Norway looks really bad chasing the game here though.

Well norway looked utterly clueless after they had fallen behind, indeed. England just played it well, never panicked and took their chances. And germany qualify for the olympics as a consequence, so it's a good result overall.

Didn't Japan Win 2011? Fields been more t Han just German y US for a while, right?
|
They did, but just before that Germany used to crush Europe, the USA dominated NA and Brazil ruled SA. There field is much more even now and if they had stuck with the 16 team format there likely wouldn't have been any of those ridiculous scorelines that were so normal in women's football.
|
Japan won mostly due to the strength and motivation the big earthquake gave the players....
You could really say they were literally carried to the trophy by the Japanese population. I cried on that day

I didn't recall lopsided scores being a problem in 2011 at all. I mean the 2015, 10-0 score for Germany happened but yeah, that's 24 teams, right? Seems fairly even for many teams.

Seems fairly even for many teams. It's definitely a lot better. They showed something about how before 07 I think USA used to average like 3.75 goals per game but in the last 3 world cups or so the gap is shrinking and the USA only averages like 1.8 now because they don't completely outmatch the worst teams as badly anymore

Man the US is tactically limited. 4-4-2 long balls all day. This game they could really use an central attacking midfielder, no one is in that space to build.
Still get decent opportunities though cause it's a very dominant team in the penalty box.

See what that turf does to you
Edit: are they seriously not gonna replay that counter leading up to the pen?

Yeah they showed foul a lot (thought it was a legit red decision), but not the ball that created it or the offside decision.

Extremely short sighted move from Torquay United to close their youth academy. I don't really know much about how Torquay function as a club. But Exeter City make a quite a bit of money from bringing players up through the ranks and selling them on to bigger clubs. It seems very short sighted to shut the academy to cut costs.
Exeter City has offered any player involved in the Torquay youth system the chance to train with the City academy and this is more than just a token gesture as it’s realistic for kids/players to make that commute/move.
The West country is quite isolated from the rest of the United Kingdom and it's very hard to for kids growing up with their footballing dreams to ever make it and become a professional footballer.
The clubs in the area should have the duty to nurture and train any talent that does come from the area and help them on the path to bigger things. It’s a very sad day when any club decides to operate on a buy and sell basis and not bother with a youth academy anymore. But it’s especially sad in the Wets country because there are already so few chances for the kids/players.

Japan was a Cinderella story. They didn't really outplay Germany or the U.S. (both teams that they beat while winning the WC), but just won the game on that day.
The field is still 3 teams + the rest, just like it's always been.
