expanding the team pool is ALWAYS about money. more team = more games = more people watching = more money.
Yes that is the biggest pull for sure. I dont think that the argument that smaller teams should get a chance is fair (its great for that country but for everyone else it sucks. But its hard to say. If I was from one of those countries I would probably feel differently. At the very least I would be an apologist for that sort of thing.
That having been said looking at the level in these qualifiers I really dont think a 24 team Euro is going to have very many meaningless games. I could be wrong but I think every game will have to be taken seriously and even weaker nations are skilled enough to cause upsets regularly. If nothing else push the more established countries because I dont feel like any of the top European teams are invulnerable.

more games will also make the winner make it more deserving imo
Greece and Denmark should never happen with double the teams

Greece and Denmark should never happen with double the teams Why? Group play would be less of a challenge and all they would have had to do is park the bus one more game. If they succeeded 6 times why shouldn't they be able to do it once more.

more games for the good players to get injured

Greece and Denmark should never happen with double the teams You can argue about greece, but unless you count how denmark actually got to the '92 euro, in my memory there's nothing that makes their title less deserving than most others.

denmark 92 was a legit team, lots of great players and they didn't win by defending/lucking out. I mean yeah they got second in the qualifier and should have been out right there, but second to old yugoslavia was really nothing to scoff at. (and seeing as how we think 16 is better than 8 anyway, arguably they should have made it in the first place. )
Personally I definitely want 24 because it makes norway more likely to make it. But I honestly think in championship games between teams that are top 24 in europe, it's always gonna be exciting. I think Norway is prolly around 24th somewhere, and I never think we have 'impossible' games. I mean, if you look at our past 5 matches against Germany, Brazil and Spain (imo top 3 teams in the world right now!! kinda picked cuz they make my point for me but still), we're 4-1-0. Obviously, if you instead look at our performance against France, Italy, Netherlands and Croatia, or something like that, it looks much uglier, but it's definitely possible for teams that are 24~ish to beat teams that are 1~ish with a little bit of luck - and a lot of attitude.

More terrible officiating in WWC. NZL called for a handball when it was clearly off her chest. Gives China a tying pk which might deny NZL advancing
Guess it's moot now cause China scored again

well, 2:2 now... sucks so much. It'd be a totally different game if the kiwis would be in the lead and China'd have to go all out ...
In general, Referee's are as bad as 4 years ago, though I watched the Germans stomping Thailand earlier tonite, and while it did not really matter much (4:0), the linesmen called an off-side where the striker was 2m behind the defender ...

Not only was she that far behind the defender there were 2 defenders and the keeper still between her and the goal on that one. I guess nothing beats how bad the Colombia France game was so far with the 2 blatant handballs and should be red cards but meh... overall not that good.

It's a loan deal? Interesting.

Those news are two or 3 days old in Portugal....and incomplete. The deal would mean Falcão would move to Chelsea and 2 Chelsea youngsters would go on loan to Monaco (Musonda and Pasalic). The fee was not disclosed by Portuguese newspapers.
I even think some 2 weeks ago this was in the sports news, however nobody believed it (and there were even counter news saying Falcão would rather go to Liverpool instead of Chelsea). However, these past 2 or 3 days the information was seen on more legit terms so people are actually starting to buy this.

According to di Marzio 3 days ago both clubs met but there wasn't agreement yet as Chelsea didn't want 15m buyout clause for Pasalic.

Chelsea ftw! Yeah i am praying to baby jesus that Mourinho gives us a miracle and Falcao finds his form if not this £200,000 a week wage (i assume) he gets is going to be terrible business.
On why it is a loan, because the asking price for him is so high no one wants him and Monaco just want rid of the wage bill he is on.

Lol imagine 3 years ago if someone told you that both Costa and Falcao would be at Chelsea, but with Costa as the star and Falcao as the second fiddle.

All roads from Atleti lead to Chelsea...

I'll try to make a subjective list of teams that are good enough to play on 16 teams Euro, based on their past results (10-15 years back) and their current roster: France, Czech Rep, Netherlands, Turkey, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain, Ukraine, Poland, Germany, England, Switzerland, Greece, Sweden, Russia, Croatia, Italy, Portugal, Denmark and Serbia. That's 20 teams, and aside from 6 or 7 tier 1 teams, I don't think any of the rest is much better or worse than the other.
Next, we have teams that deserve go to France based on their current results in qualifiers: Iceland, Wales, Slovakia, Austria, Romania, Northern Ireland and Hungary. With those, we now have 27 teams altogether.
Considering the form of Iceland, Wales, Slovakia and Austria, I think they could do as good as any of the above mentioned non-t1 teams, and they will be a nice addition on Euro. Romania, Northern Ireland and Hungary; well - if we need to call someone a big outsider, that might as well be those teams. But every major competition has couple of those, and sometimes they surprise everyone, that's the beauty of football, I guess.
So, in the end, the average quality of the competition will be lower, but if we look at the average quality of teams that can challenge top tier ones, the drop in quality will be insignificant.
16 or 32 just work too well for these tournaments. Euro's are almost always fun to watch though.
