Too many things counter a 5'9 pointguard that can't play defense. Now if you tell me he goes to the Heat as their PG, then obviously things change with lineups and playoff matchups, but we are speaking from a general sense.

I understand that undersized PGs can still be effective and valuable, but I think there's a point at which a player can be too undersized, i.e. Nate Robinson. Sure, 6'2" and 6'3" is short by NBA standards, but they're acceptable for the PG position. However, 5'10" is something else, as that puts you in the range of an average non-NBA person. I don't think you can fairly point to Kyrie and Parker's size/wingspan, and then say that IT2's size/wingspan isn't a problem since all three are "small" guards. IT2's size disadvantage is significantly greater than both of them, without him being as or significantly more talented. Personally, I would be very reluctant to have IT2 as a starting PG on a team with title aspirations as smart teams would be able to abuse him on defense. Parker and Kyrie are at least comparable in size to other PGs, Isaiah would be smaller than everyone, including opposing PGs. There's only so much a player can do to make up for that kind of size disparity. As a result, I think the amount of money he should be offered should reflect that as well.

Why not just consider how he actually played last year? Especially against top teams. We're not talking about a draft pick where the information is extremely limited.

We're not talking about a draft pick where the information is extremely limited. I would argue the same for Lawson actually. Both IT2 and Lawson are great players, no doubt, but both hurt their teams a lot on defense due to their size. I remember reading multiple articles that referenced how Lawson's height affected his ability to defend, which then hurt Denver's defense overall. I found one article here: For all the exciting improvements Lawson has and will make going forward, the biggest “flaw” in his is game is one that can never really be changed. Barring using some medieval tactics that look rather unpleasant or a Paul George-esque post-adolescent growth spurt (unlikely) Lawson isn’t really going to get any taller in a league where size still matters quite a bit. Now this weakness also happens to be a strength with him, as his stature helps not only with his blinding speed but also with a low dribble that makes him hard to get in front of. But, defensively, he is always going to have some problems and it was never more painfully highlighted than it was in the playoffs. Lawson valiantly tried to stay in front of Jarrett Jack (if you go back and re-watch those games you will see him throw everything he has at trying to stop Jack from driving) but all Jack really had to do to get an open shot, no matter how far up Lawson played him, was pull-up from midrange. And he did it a lot. The unfortunate fact of the matter is guards with range are just going to do this to him. That said, effort on defense can go a long way (I’m looking at you Andre Miller) and Lawson has enough of it to still impact the game. He’s not as bad a pick and roll defender as you might think, he can compensate for what he gives up in length with a pretty good ability to stay in front of quicker guards. Still, Denver was a much better defensive team with Lawson off the court, the team went from the mires of the early twenties to a top three defense when Lawson sat. Its a damning stat even when you factor in the lesser competition the bench unit usually faces, and one that Denver is just going to have to live with. http://www.roundballminingcompany.com/2013/05/29/player-profile-ty-lawson/

Shaun Livingston on the other hand, great move by the Dubs. Edit: Meeks got a bigger contract than Livingston.

Martin will be paid next to nothing and he can shoot a decent % from 3. It's a SVG team and we were 29th in 3pt % last year. Meeks on the other hand is an overpay right now, but it could become fair if he continues to improve. More than that, he's a bit more two dimensional than the other options like Morrow are. And sadly, his TS% last season was higher than any Piston's. I'm fine with the player, annoyed by the contract but at least it's not Stuckey at 8 per. I don't think 1:1 will happen, but I like Anderson + change for Monroe. http://theclassical.org/articles/jodie-meeks-schrodingers-free-agent
