If they want to keep playing with him, they have to accept that they're not worth nearly as much as he is (which they weren't.) Relative to him, they're massively overpaid and since he has the power in that situation he can force them into something more in line with him.

Shaun Livingston on the other hand, great move by the Dubs. Edit: Meeks got a bigger contract than Livingston. Yeah. people are saying 5/60 is too much but that's about the price decent centers command these days. the only issues with the contract might be the length but I think this is fine for the wizards, they want to get their starting 5 back/keep their core intact and I think this is a good move considering the team.

I'd heard no rumours about anyone wanting him other than the Wiz. Seems like a horrible overspend. Even if you wanted to lock him in at $12mill a year at least make it three years. Grunfeld out derping himself as per usual? ![]()

If two top-20 players in your association both take 75% of what they're worth in your collectively bargained market, you call their agents and tell them to get the fuck out of town. I think you don't understand how this works in the NBA vs say MLB.

I'm not quite sure how this works, but according to this, Golden State is now hard capped because of their Shaun Livingston signing. Doesn't bode well if they are still after Kevin Love.

Agree that the length of the contract is what's concerning. He's 30 now and the contract will end when he's 35, which is old by NBA standards. Hard to believe that they wouldn't have been able to sign him for a year or two less with that much being paid to him each year.

@Jibba: Jesus. Talking yourself into Jodie Meeks already? RIP. This must be a hoax btw. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11168158/cleveland-cavaliers-prepare-maximum-offer-sheet-gordon-hayward-utah-jazz The Cavs, who have the ability to clear as much as $20 million in salary-cap space, are believed to be willing to start a deal at the maximum contract number of about $15 million per season. The Cavs see Hayward as a compliment to young franchise cornerstones Kyrie Irving and No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins.

I'm happy that Meeks is replacing Stuckey and is not Anthony Morrow. That's about it. But as bad as his contract is, 32m guaranteed to Bradley is definitely worse. Okay, I'm definitely talking myself into Meeks. ![]()

Hayward @ 15ish a year isn't outrageous if you believe that his slump was brought on by having to carry an awful jazz team (and take/miss awful shots) that didn't give a shit. And Zulu's point about the Cleveland overpay is valid as well. Meeks will at least help Detroit's desperate need for spacing as he can actually shoot. Probably a bit of an overpay but 3years isn't endless and it's not like he's too old to learn to be a semi-competent team defender.
