The uncomfortable truth is Serral beat every single player put against him, and did so in a tournament where his Korean opponents could prepare for him.

Often a lot of losses, are not becasue they are worse. They are caught off guard a lot of the time. So, I'm not saying this is the same as case of Serral. But if you send him to Korea, and put him into GSL, I doubt he will be able to just crush trough it. Its a big difference compared to world events. Most of the games, mechanically the top koreans are still better than Serral. But overall, that counts little when Serral outsmarts them and knows exactly how to win. This might not be the case if they play against him more and learn his style. Just see how Stats slowly adapted to Serral in the finals. Lemme just focus on you bringing up mechanics. Mechanically, serral is better than every korean. Strategically, serral is top 3 in the world. I encourage you to watch replays from player POV, not just casted replays. He is faster, and more efficient, than every korean besides innovation, and strategically (the only objective portion), hes better than innovation. I think you're blinded by the korean>all mentality still.

Of course he's no1 ahead of Stephano, he just won the world championship on the back of an 8 months streak of winning every series and getting 4 premiers titles allong the way. It's not in any way a contest of the best foreigner at this point, it's a contest for the best player, or at least the best streak, of all time.

Really the best foreigner and the best player of the year. Not to mention his only losses are in the WCS Leipzig European qualifiers where he lost to Elazer in a close 3-2 series and the second one is in an online tournament where he got beaten by Neeb 3-0 (also the only match that led to his winning streak be broken). It's hard to imagine to be this consistent for so long.

Maru could have taken the title with a WCS Global Finals win, but as it is, losses in both GSL Super Tournaments and GSL vs the World outweigh his victory over Serral in WESG, and while winning 3 GSLs is still a bigger accomplishment than winning 4 WCSs imo, Serral's absolute dominance in GSL vs the World and Blizzcon more than make up for it.

WCS Leipzig Champion (20k $) IEM Katowice 3rd (26k $) WESG Haikou 3rd (40k $) WCS Austin Champion (20k $) WCS Valencia Champion (20k $) GSL vs World Champion (26.9k $) WCS Montreal Champion (20k $) WCS Global Finals Champion (280k $) Good luck to anyone beating that. Also he made top Koreans look like noobs. Specialy Dark with his loud mouth. Serral won in one year more then he won in his whole life, stomping him 3-1 and 3-0 in process. He also 3-0 Inno, beat 2x Classic, 2x Rouge, 6-0 vs Zest, he rape sOs 2-0 week ago. Only player who was close to him was Stats, but he won 4-3 and 4-2 both times they met. Shame he couldn't stomp Maru in finals of blizzcon. He is untouchable. Not bonjwa, he is God of SC2.

Even with that hypothetical, I still think Serral is the best player in the world the world right now with his ability to beat anyone thrown at him on short notice. This is the same reason that I thought TaeJa was the best player in the world during his heyday despite never lifting a GSL trophy. The amount of premiere weekender championships he racked up in such a short amount of time (not to mention his team league performances) was out of this world and hasn't been witnessed to the same degree until this year with Serral. My opinion is that judging a best player through the lens of GSL trophies alone is a poor perspective - GSL presents a different type of difficulty, but not necessarily a greater one.

Honestly it's really hard to compare players between eras and this era is sooo weird compared to wild west of WoL or the later era when Life or Zest dominated, but what Serral did is so impressive. He is truly peerless.
