Whatever comes out of this, I hope Serral competes in the Korean leagues. I really believe he has a shot be a champion there now, but won't know till I actually see it.
lol....
Like he has slain all the best Koreans already this year. Twice. He has won every single match, and mostly even utterly dominated. And yet "He has a shot...."

besides the guys from Jinair, the rest of Korean pros (Inno, Classic, Dark, Soo, Stats, Zest) dont seem to be spending time for practice anymore. I saw them travelling all over the places. Perhaps they are enjoying their lives coz they know Blizzard is fuking the Korean scene anyway.

It's got to be surreal for guys like Stats to feel like almost the entire world was rooting against you.

I love how delusional some of you are.
Serral is only going to go to Korea if he feels like it, not because some random trolls on the internet still won't accept his dominance.
From his perspective, he already beats every player in the world (Korea included) multiple times over. He is the best in the world period. He doesn't need to prove anything anymore. He doesn't need to sit in a different chair that happens to be in Korea to do that - he won GSL v World and BlizzCon already.
He has ended the discussion already. There's no longer any valid arguments (in my opinion) that he isn't the best player in the world or in 2018. Noone has had a peak dominance period this high, or sustained for this long, since SC2 started. 6 premier titles in 9 months is unfathomable.
Even MVP didn't do this. It's absolutely absurd to think about. He is just on another level entirely - he made Zest, sOs, Dark, Rogue and Stats look silly this week. I don't know the last time we have had a single run as dominant as this BlizzCon alone, let alone tying in the 12 months leading up to it.

But he got crushed by Maru, the best player of the year in Korea, in the only series they played that mattered. There's an argument to be made that what Maru did this year was more impressive. If you don't see that you're delusional.

100% agreeing on this. I cant understand how people seem to still keep all these accomplishments just "lucky" or that in GSL its so different, that he couldnt cope the "pressure" or something there.
Who are the best Korean players at the moment ?
Maru Stats Dark Rogue
Anybody else come to mind ? Classic, Zest, SoS ?
And Serral has beaten all of them flawlessly. Some could say even without breaking a sweat. Stats seemed to be the only one who could give little resistance at the moment. Maru we dont know because he sucked. But he beat him also in the earlier tournament. Also all those trophies in one year and nearly unbeaten status in all matches trough-out.
I hate the words Bonjwa or GOAT and they are overused. But if they have to be used, they are related more to Serral over any other Starcraft player atm, even including Maru.

Dave4, You'd be surprised how well Koreans adapt vs foriegn players, and how little they prepare against them. Often a lot of losses, are not becasue they are worse. They are caught off guard a lot of the time. So, I'm not saying this is the same as case of Serral. But if you send him to Korea, and put him into GSL, I doubt he will be able to just crush trough it. Its a big difference compared to world events. Most of the games, mechanically the top koreans are still better than Serral. But overall, that counts little when Serral outsmarts them and knows exactly how to win. This might not be the case if they play against him more and learn his style. Just see how Stats slowly adapted to Serral in the finals.

An actual fairytale moment. You can tell how affected everyone was, Serral and even the casters seems like they were getting teary-eyed and emotional.
Probably the most remarkable moment in SC2's entire lifespan. Actually makes me think anything is possible.
|
So when are they releasing the replay packs?
|
damn, looks like serral is going to win, and the serral lovers are going to be unsufferable
perhaps the only good thing to come of this is that they will remove the region lock which blizzard used to singlehandedly destroy the korean scene. now that serral will win blizzcon the foreigners dont need to be coddled and protected anymore
|
Lol, yeah, like all of the koreans had no clue about Serral before this.... What a joke. He won Gsl vs the world... They know him.. they studied him.. they tried to counter him and failed. Gsl wouldnt some how be a different environment. The straws are tired of being grasped at. Accept reality. Serral won against everyone, and only didnt crush Maru because Maru wasn't good enough to make the finals. The Serral now vs Maru would have gone the same as Gsl vs the world x 4... A 4-0. Sweet sweet tears... The infathomable saddness

I agree with you on paper. I just want Serral to fulfill the haters' win condition and actually win a GSL.

Probably the most remarkable moment in SC2's entire lifespan. Actually makes me think anything is possible. Anything is possible, even killing KeSPA SC2, closing almost all of the team houses, tons of Korean players retiring, no new Korean player in years, and still locking them out of every other tournament with a 1-way region lock

Having watched the first person views of these players recently, I think it is safe to say Serral's mechanics, if not superior , are definitely not worse than any Korean zergs. His games against Dark and Rogue are pretty self-explainatory. Still, I agree with you that GSL style games are quite different from weekenders. You are given so much time to prepare for just a few players during group stages and even more time to prepare for just one opponent. However, I do not think it is worth it for Serral to commit to a GSL season. You have to spend weeks there in a foreign environment. If you get knocked out early people start to call you a patch zerg, if you beat the Koreans again they call you a prize thief breaching the region lock, either way you spend a lot of time and money just to prove that you can do well in a GSL? I mean, Neeb already delivered a pretty decent GSL run this year, I do not think Serral will be interested nor do i think it is worth it.

Tbh the SC2 Korean scene almost brought everything upon itself except the region lock. The game is still present there only because blizzard actually pays for everything with a ROI probably close to 0

with GSL v. The WOrld and BlizzCon under his belt its hard for people to continue to argue that the best korean players are a big step up in playing ability compared to every foreign player.
Congratz to Serral. Well deserved. great BO7 series final. great tournament.

That mattered ? One series from 7 months ago ? Since around then, how many matches has Serral lost ? GSL is just dwindling tournament of few good players and rest being normal WCS-level-players. Blizzcon is the biggest event of the year and there you have to perform to be the number one. But Maru didnt. SoS isnt even top-10 player anymore, and still Maru sucked against him. And look what Serral did: crushed SoS easily. In addition, Maru has lost several times to other players too over the year. Yes, he can do excellent proxy rax, but being the best player includes so much more. If he actually had confronted Serral in the finals, it would have been nasty, and not for Marus advantage.

There's no chance that they weren't prepping for Serral - it's been one of the biggest stories of the year that it would be Serral vs Korea at BlizzCon.
Zest and sOs had weeks to prepare knowing the groups.
Dark had a full week between groups and ro8. By the way, remember Dark is supposedly the 'foreigner destroyer' and got 3-0d.
Rogue knew his semi would be vs one of two zergs.
Stats is the only player I could maybe somewhat buy this argument for of the players that Serral decimated this BlizzCon. Even Stats though would have remembered to expect to face Serral in the finals (having lost to him at GSL v World).
Korea prepared for Serral and Korea couldn't find the answer.

Blizzard wouldn't do something with a ROI of 0... they get advertising, they get warchest sales. If the ROI goes to 0 WCS will be gone.

Yep. Dark literally asked for Serral and Stats wanted to have a rematch. We saw how that went.
