It's based on the points you accumulate in a season. Since the ones who win/place high (Koreans, duh) don't always return most foreigners need only 1 good placing to get a guaranteed pool spot. Incontrol finished 4th at one MLG iirc.

Was that Mike Morhaime at a BarCraft just after HuK vs. MC?

While it is nice to see foreigners doing way better.. it certainly isn't all that surprising. I mean if the 4 invites were LosirA, MMA, MVP and Bomber... you better believe all of them would 5-0 their groups.
Not to take anything away from the foreigners... they are playing amazing. IdrA and Ret especially are playing better than I've ever seen them play lately. Unfortunately you're not part of the popular opinion but I agree with you. I'm tired of seeing washed up talent like boxer and july, but maybe one day MLG will take riskier choices on more up and coming talent like they did with coca for instance. And yet washed up talent like Boxer and July can still beat prominent westerners. I wonder if you'd consider White-Ra washed up talent.

Or it's because of how the MLG point system currently works.

same reason why players like TLO, haypro, machine are there. they have enough pool points to stay in pool play.

in fact, i think TLO placed worst than incontrol did in several MLG's. No one says anything, though, while incontrol takes all the flak.

wow iNcontroL never dissapoints... his winrate is going to get more lower...

The usual morning question during MLGs: Are there VODs? If so, where can I find them? Thanks

Not to take anything away from the foreigners... they are playing amazing. IdrA and Ret especially are playing better than I've ever seen them play lately. It really just shows the difference between the scenes. Korea really dominates the top 10 players in the world, but after that, a "random top 50 Korean" isn't any different than a "random top 50 foreigner". So, as the "good but not marque" players come over, it's notable how much more even things are. Bomber is the marque Korean at the tournament. He's a top 10 in the world and that's the issue. Except for him, there's around 10 players that could take this tournament. So the real question is simply: who can beat Bomber? If MLG doesn't get those top 10 Koreans all showing up, then the "Korean always wins" story line goes out the window. But the last 3 we've gotten at least 2 "top 10" Koreans. This time, there's only 1 and a question if MKP is on the swing back into the top Tier again. It's turning into more of a Top 2 competition in Korea. If MVP doesn't knock out Nestea, he takes it. The only person that's been close to knocking out MVP (should have if he didn't blunder the 4th game) is Nestea. Now it looks like MVP will take this season with ease, no one other than Nestea has even been competitive with him, including Bomber. Agreed. The funny thing is that because Nestea & MVP faced off early (again), I believe MC gets to go to Blizzcon, lol. (MVP would not go since he has the Finals to prepare for) Code S at GSL has been a 3-person question for a while. With Protoss getting rolled and MC not having a solid response to it, it's been down to Nestea vs MVP for a while. Though that's more to do with the fact that Code S has so many Terrans. If MVP had to deal with 4 Protosses every Code S, I think he wouldn't be as dominate. Still, if we had MMA, Ryung or DRG here, it'd be a bit different. That 2nd "top 10 Korean" changes the dynamic so much at MLG, hehe. The GSL finals are at Blizzcon actually, so MVP gets to play in both. Wonder how Nestea will play in a new environment. MVP was worse against protoss a long time ago, he's done much much better lately and doesn't seem to have a problem with the match up lately. Nestea seems to have really improved in his TvZ as well, almost beating MVP and taking out MMA in his group stage matches. I should have been more clear: MVP won't play the Blizzcon Tournament itself. Blizzcon probably has a 15k or so purse for the winner. There's 30k on the line between winning the GSL finals vs losing. He'll drop out of the Blizzcon tournament and focus on the GSL Finals. This would allow MC (3rd in points) to go to Blizzcon in his place. At least, that's the most logical scenario. That might be the most illogical thing I've ever read, actually. GSL finals are against + Show Spoiler + - there's not a whole lot to prepare for there. It's TvT and MVP has the best TvT there is. MVP isn't going to get tired or worn out or anything like that. Like Idra recently said, fans put too much weight into the idea of stamina and fatigue. If MVP were going to drop out, he never would have accepted the Blizzcon invite anyway. At any rate, he would have dropped out already so preparations could be made for another invite. In other words, there's actually no chance that MVP will drop out of either tournament.
MVP would not drop out of GSL Finals. He will likely drop out of the Blizzcon Invitational Tournament. This isn't any different if they had held a Starleague finals @ Blizzcon. The Blizzcon tournament is secondary to the GSL Finals. MVP might feel he can do both, at which point he'll stay in, but it's very likely he will drop out.
MVP is better than MMA at TvT, but a tired MVP, who needs picture perfect micro in at least 2 of those games, is far more beatable. That's the calculation that IM has to make. Don't be surprised when MC is headed to Blizzcon.

TLO at least has the excuse of Carpal Tunnel, whereas iNControL is just not as good as the other pool players.

At the moment, no. But it's a restream of the entire day. You just have to move around the Time Bar to find the game you want.

How is this restream? It loops back to Huk v. July all the time for me.

There is nothing suggesting that it is very likely that MVP will drop out except your own speculation about what you think is logical or not. There's no reason for the best player in the world to drop out of a chance to win 15k unless it significantly reduces his chance to win GSL.
He doesn't even have to practice anything other than TvT and prepare 100% for GSL and it would still be a good decision to participate in Blizzcon.

As I said yesterday, WhiteRa was in his "I'm a platinum player herp", and he needed a miracle to get into the championship bracket, and the miracle happened, since in his losing bracket, the most fearsome enemy is Destiny, lulz.
