So long as the vote can occur before midterms, I don't see why else republicans would need it ASAP. What is time sensitive besides just midterms and potentially losing the senate? ive yet to see a non-cynical answer to this question.

Yes. The voted to recommend BK to the full senate, but Flake made it clear the vote would fail without an FBI investigation into the charges. But Flake could also Flake and vote yes because he has the spine of Flake. It is an unfortunate last name for sure. I'm sure Reps are calling him a "flake" for not just voting BK through. Going against your party in such a public way is brave. Smart? I guess we will see but lets not insult the guy for something he might do and instead be happy for what he did do. Flake has a history of making big, symbolic statements and then voting for the thing he was speaking out against. He did this in when it came to the healthcare bill and the tax bill. He complains about the process, but never backs it up with actions. People are naturally suspicious of his claim that he will vote no if this comes to a full floor vote because of his history. If he backtracks by all means crucify him, but until then support the move. It makes future moves more likely. If both sides crucify him do you think he or anyone else would take this risk again? I'm with thedave and I hope this actually happens and the truth, or at least the closest thing possible can be found. I suspect BK making himself out to be Mr virgin, never drunk, perfect guy will backfire during the investigations. Since all of that is easier to prove/disprove than the assaults. Flake is retiring. He won’t be in the senate after January, 2019. Also, you are talking to the guy who said all the things you are saying now 15-20 years ago. I was the Good Faith, Trust the Process guy Champion of the golden mean. I’ve been burned to many times by believing these folks to take them at their word. If they don’t back it up with consistency, I don’t trust them. On September 29 2018 03:40 Sermokala wrote: Gorsameth I really got to ask. Is your opinion that the Republicans are so evil that the Democrats should copy them in everything they do?
I don't understand how you arrive at the point where the Republicans are the model party that should be emulated in America when you clearly don't like what the republican party does. It’s the Mustard gas theory. Both sides need to use it on each other before everyone agrees its terrible and never uses it again. We gotta break all the rules so then everyone realizes why we followed them in the first place. Then make new rules. Except that one critical element here is missing for the mustard gas theory to go anywhere: in politics shit happens sequentially rather than in parallel: while the democrats are being mustard gased, they don't have the power to toss their own mustard gas bombs, and vice versa. Thus, there is no incentive for the party in power to change it *right now*. There's an incentive to change it "just in case the other guys get the opportunity to do it next", but that's a problem for the future, and politicians *never* deal with problems of the future. The thing about the House and Senate is that they make their own rules. Since the 1990s, there has been a shifting of rules in both chambers to benefit the majority party. At this point I believe we have hit the peak of those changes and something has to break after November. The biggest question about the future is what the Democrats do if they take back the House. What happens to the freedom caucus when they are the minority party for the first time. Because after this, I’m not sure that Trump will be the only this motivating voters or the only target of Democrat’s wrath.

As expected Manchin is also on board waiting for an FBI investigation. If nothing else Flake has provided cover for people on the fence, which is significant.

1 hour of pointed questions focusing on the July 1st date on the calendar applied to all of Ford, KAV, PJ, and Judge would do wonders. The prosecutor (mitchell?) almost got to it with KAV before she was cut off by the Senate R's.

Doesn't that also mean that kevinugh should lose his ability to practice law or be a judge, given his untruthful responses and proven perjury?

I think this picture is appropriate. I think Flake is genuinely torn up over this (perhaps for the wrong reasons, but torn all the same).

You have to show willful intent to deceive. This basically means proving what was going through the mind of the person when they were under oath. Without some form of overwhelming smoking gun, it would be hard with BK. And I mean like overwhelming evidence to an almost comical degree. And I don’t know the state BAR in the US that is going to revoke the law license of a sitting federal judge. That is punching above your weight class. And judges don’t need their law license to be a judge anyways(Judges have existed for the entire history of the county, law licensing is relatively recent).

The possibility that Kav gets shelved after his possum grimace dance in front of the entire country delights me to no end.

In genuinely curious who made up this Devils Triangle drinking game. I can imagine McGahn throwing out ideas between cigar hits. Or who decided they should say FFFFFFF was a reference to a specific persons way of speaking. Or that boofing meant flatulence. That must have been a funny meeting of lawyers.

I was watching the hearing live when Flake did his thing. My jaw dropped.
I was fully expected the nomination to get rammed through at this point and was pretty shocked. Also, now that the Judiciary Committee has requested the investigation, we now know that McConnell doesn't have the votes if there isn't an investigation.

I predict Kavanaugh withdraws once the FBI investigation becomes official. Between Avenatti and his friend being willing to testify, I think it quickly becomes lights out.
Does anyone around here think Kavanaugh will push through the investigation?

There is no way he withdraws himself. Going 'I quit' right at the start of the investigation just makes you seem like the guiltiest guy in the world. He would NEVER live that down. If the investigation goes through and the FBI find nothing he can be on the SC and hold his head high

Here is the thing about Judge, Judge has three words that can help him and those are "I don't recall" and he will likely say almost exclusively that to any questions asked

Also, my god, every time he says “I got to Yale by busting my tail” it makes me laugh. Yeah, you were only the son DC attorney who was the president of a lobby cosmetic companies 600ish who attended an expensive prep-school that paved the way to Yale. No connections what so ever. It is amazing when they believe their own mythology.
