The main fact that would make that more threatening is the fully automatic system reacting to false positives, which would have made the thing scary in the case of the Soviet Union, who by and large were a mostly rational actor. In the hands of NK it is dwarfed by the gigantic amounts of plain crazy. Basically, if they have a lot of nuclear missiles, they can use them for blackmailing/being crazy no matter how the launch system is set up.

The fact that the technology for a fully automatic, second strike device that fires an armada of nuclear against strategic locations has been around for ages is frightening, and NK actually strikes me as one of those nations desperate enough to employ it for blackmailing purposes. They probably cant afford to construct that many nuclear robots with their current resources, but its still a frightening thought. NK doesn't even have a second strike capability making any kind of 'dead hand' device pretty damn meaningless.

They probably cant afford to construct that many nuclear robots with their current resources, but its still a frightening thought. A fully automatic second-strike system is stupid, in the same way a bicycle with square wheels is stupid. Such a device simply does not work as intended. It is prone to misfires and malfunctions, and if it ever messes up, it spells the end for the nation that accidentally launched their nukes. Said nation will be reduced to a smoking crater by the awe-inspiring nuclear arsenal of the Western world, which is why NK will never be retarded enough to build one. They're sociopathic madmen, but the one thing they are guaranteed to have is a sense of self-preservation. Furthermore, a fully automatic second-strike system offers little actual increase in firepower. The only thing it does is reduce the chance of you failing to nuke someone who nuked you first. Honestly, by the time second-strike happens, the world is already screwed. The important part is ensuring that first-strike never happens, and at this rate, it never will.

(Reuters) - North Korea fired 30 short-range rockets into the sea off the east of the Korean peninsula early on Saturday, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff in South Korea. The rockets, which are believed to be old Soviet-developed FROG rockets that North Korea has had since the 1960s, flew for 60 km (37 miles) before crashing into the sea, Yonhap said. Six days ago, North Korea had fired 25 short-range rockets into the sea off its east coast. South Korea believes the short-range rocket launches conducted by North Korea this month are an "armed protest" against the South Korean-U.S. military drills that are currently taking place. The North has denounced the joint military exercises as a preparation for war while Seoul and Washington have said the annual drills are defensive in nature. Early last year, North Korea conducted its third nuclear weapons test, having successfully launched a long-range rocket in 2012 that critics say was aimed at proving technology for an intercontinental ballistic missile. Both of those are banned under U.N. sanctions. TL:DR NK fire some rockets into the Ocean. Been awhile since we heard from these guys. Perhaps it is an attempt to make any attempt to assassinate him nigh-impossible. http://mashable.com/2014/03/26/kim-jong-un-haircut/ It might not actually be happening though and I doubt "Mashable" is a reliable source. ![]()

I'd think he'd just have his barber killed.

And if every NK man looks like KJU, they would probably be a lot happier. Most people like not starving.

(2nd LD) N. Korea conducts live-fire drill in western sea SEOUL, March 31 (Yonhap) -- North Korea began a live-fire drill near the tensely guarded western Monday, hours after notifying the South of its planned drills in a rare move by the communist state, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said. The North fired several artillery shells in waters north of the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in Yellow Sea starting from 12:15 p.m., the JCS said. After several rounds of the shells fell on south of the NLL, the South Korean military shot artillery shells with K-9 self-propelled howitzers in response, it said. The move came after the Southwestern Command of the Korean People's Army faxed South Korean Navy's Second Fleet at 8:00 a.m. to announce the fire drills in seven border regions near the western maritime border later in the day.
