It's a phrase that means demanding too much, which is funny, because I think if you have some cake it's perfectly reasonable to expect to be able to eat it. What the hell else is cake for? For your enlightenment: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/have_your_cake_and_eat_it_too This is stupid. Why can't I have my own cake and eat it too? MAYBE I DON'T GET IT

"There's ... for a reason" when spoken without knowing the reason they speak of. Not knowing the reason behind a law, rule, or norm renders one incapable of knowing the exceptions, so they have no right to judge someone when they break the said law, rule or norm.
Example:
Incorrect usage: "You can't cross the street when the light is flashing red, it's like that for a reason."
Correct usage "Why are you carrying four baskets full of groceries? There's shopping carts for a reason."

"Why can't I have my cake and eat it too? I don't get it." The irony in the thread is too great.

"Who is John Galt?"
I'm only around a fifth into the book, but I hate this with a passion.
Edit: 2/5 = 200/1000. My math is incredible.

Correct usage "Why are you carrying four baskets full of groceries? There's shopping carts for a reason." That same statement could be spoken by someone who does know the reasoning for the particular rules you're referring to. It's not inherently wrong.

"Hacker" is one I get a lot too in mw3, though really I shouldn't be playing that game anymore.

Am I the only one who literally doesn't care when someone uses that word?
Edit: Literally.

"We'll keep in touch."
I hate it when my friends say this. You know it's the last time you'll likely see each other and they won't let you have your moment of grievance.
I guess I moved a lot as a child and I hated leaving friends and having to make new ones. I only have a few friends and a little brother that I think I'll know forever. And I'm sometimes afraid that my friends now will drift apart in the future.
