I think I'll get the audio book of the 1st one(it's free on audible), that way I can drop some book knowledge bombs and keep a poker face (incase the cringe gets turned up to eleven), when we watch the movie. I think that's the main issue here. I've been DM'ing since the mid 90s and compared to the vast world of D&D for example the Potter universe seems a little small and immature.
The world of any tabletop roleplaying game is exactly as large as the group who plays it makes it. I am sure you can have a very deep and immersive DnD game, or you can have "I, but as a wizard, kill orks".
Of course a few books of novels can't have as much worldbuilding as you in a campaign that runs for a decade or so, and it also can't have as much worldbuilding as exists in the form of DnD books (Because there are hundreds of them, over a few decades, and they don't have to also fit story in there). But neither do you need to have that. You can have an amazingly fun roleplaying game that never leaves a single city. I have had fun roleplaying experiences where the story never left a single elevator. You don't need hundreds of deities for that.
The Harry Potter world is very focused. It's worldbuilding is based on stuff that is relevant for the students of a single school, and it expands from there on out into the world as stuff becomes relevant for them.
The quality of a fiction world is not based on how much stuff there is, but on how interesting the stuff that is there is. Usually, it becomes interesting when it is relevant for the story. You can have gargantuan amounts of data on every single village on a continent, and still have a boring world.
Also, time for my usual not-asked-for advice: DnD is not all there is to tabletop roleplaying. There are a lot of different games out there that do different things very well.

I think it bears mentioning that the first couple of movies suffers a bit from child-actor-syndrome. From around nr 4 the performance of the actors gets loads better.

The first movie can feel very much like a kids movie in comparison to the later ones. I think the series is perfect once a year for someone growing up, watching the movies at roughly the same age (or maybe a bit older) as the protagonists.

I guess this might depend on the country, but do laws only apply to homo sapiens and if so, do you know of a case where the defendant claimed to be homo neanderthalensis (or some other homo species) and thus not regulated by law?

Laws usually are to citizens more than anything else.

Animal trials aren't a thing anymore. But claiming to be a different species wouldn't in of itself help you. As long as the accused has moral agency they can be tried.

You could claim to be a flowerpot for all the law cares. You'd still be subject to it.

Oh lol, didn't know such a thing existed. Reading on wikipedia:
Kadri shows that the trials were part of a broader phenomenon that saw corpses and inanimate objects also face prosecution ...WTF :D
According to Johannis Gross in Kurze Basler Chronik (1624), in 1474 a rooster was put on trial for "the heinous and unnatural crime of laying an egg," which the townspeople were concerned was spawned by Satan and contained a cockatrice. ....dude...what?

That's very true, I guess I'm just put off by the whole "kids in school theme", which is why I've never cared all that much for it. But as we get older, we get wiser (at least that's what we tell ourselves ) and I can see now that it's been narrow minded and I'll give it a chance to prove me wrong.

Uh no. I'm fairly certain that what I talk about has much more to do with the actors getting more experience. It certainly didn't hurt the franchise to change director, but I wasn't talking about the feeling of the movies. It's hardly a controversial statement I'm making here - e.g. Emma Watson herself has stated that you can ser her mouth the lines of her co-actors in the first couple of movies.

I always thought the books were better than the movies. Order of the Phoenix in particular is an amazing book. You could say there's an "overarching story" to all 7 HP books, and it really gets going in OotP. If I'm not mistaken the book is a hefty ~750 pages but I raced through it.
The movie on the other hand... incredibly boring. I went with my friend and his older siblings, his older brother fell asleep and I can't blame him.
The first books aren't terribly interesting, it's just a wizard and his antics at school, they're only ~200 pages each though so might as well power through them.
I'd recommend at the very least reading books 4-7, perhaps watch the first three movies instead of reading the first three books if you don't want to invest too much time.

The first 2 were fairly bad, but no worse than most pulp works.
The 3rd book was when she first showed real promise S a writer since the narrative and imagery was finally grinding into something more meaty and real.
The 4th book is when the plots stop feeling like a CW show. The rest are only good if you read the first 4 books.

What are some good sites to browse for general amusement with very limited bandwitdth and cpu? I am bored have very bad net on a very old phone. TL is great from the technical pov, but I have read everything here, reddit is not so great as most links go to random websites and most websites are painfully large.
Before you get to clever, going outside or playing sc2 arent viable options with a hole (albeit tiny and healing) in my spine.

Not that I am in that position--but does anyone have the same list for high bandwidth?

While I hate it, the system seems ideal for your situation: anything that is hosted on Google amp.
Kotaku, the Guardian, NYT all send you to their amp page if you surf there from Google search. Just click any link that says "amp" next to it.

If the injury is preventing you from playing SC2, it not so benign anyway. If you want time consuming activities, I can send you my PhD report for proofreading. This will make you find looking a the floor very interesting in comparison :D

If there are two full time openings for McDonalds at 2 different locations, and I apply and get into both of them and work 80 hour weeks (40 at each place), do I get 40 hours of overtime?
