@online jaguar:
I'm not actually sure the price is marked up. Friends told me it's the same price in canada, I haven't heard about US though. In accordance with my policy of buying anything reasonably priced and pirating anything that gets marked up ridiculously for australians, I think the so-far-living-up-to-hype successor to the possibly-greatest-fps-title-of-all-time is worth 70 bucks.
For any US buyers, how much are you guys paying? It's 62.99 down under with the preorder, 70 without

I paid $45 USD for my pre-order, augmented for $55.
I dont know for certain but I am pretty sure that it will cost $50 on steam at release.

$45 USD on Steam.
Anyone know what time it unlocks to let you start playing? It says in approx 4 hrs, but its only 1 hr till midnight here.
Does Steam not unlock it right at midnight?

I paid 45$ USD in Canada, so less in Canadian currency. Sad that I live in the EST radius, gotta wait 3 more hours before playing.

Does Steam not unlock it right at midnight? Unlocks midnight Pacific time AFAIK, since that's where Valve is based.

Europe has to wait another 3 days -_-

ah well, 18 bucks isn't too much money, though it's still almost a 50% boost. It's certainly less pricey than a lot of the other markups, which are usually around $90-100. I wonder why they kind of did a halfway job of rooting us?

Still a terrible deal in my opinion. Why does australia have higher prices? is it due to taxes or some sort of legislation? Or do companies just charge higher prices?

My package prolly won't come till Wednesday... sad, but hyped. And all this cause I wanted an actual physical copy...

Got it on Steam for $42, and I'm from Aus Shrug, though I'm a massive DX fan, I won't be disappointed. I guess others have to wait before getting it.

Holy fucking shit I am going crazy right now, just 2 hours....

Companies just charge higher prices. A long time ago, the AUD was only worth about 65 US cents, so it made sense for *boxed retail* games to cost about twice whatever they cost in the US. However, now our dollar is higher than the US and the prices haven't changed. In order not to piss off brick and mortar retail companies, publishers mark up downloadable titles to be the same as boxed retail- about $90-120 these days. As I noted I have a personal policy of buying any vaguely interesting game where I have to pay the same price as everyone else online, and pirating anything- even games worth money- that attempts to charge me full box retail price. in this case they're not so eidos montreal will deservedly get their money's worth out of me. Or rather, squeenix will get most of it and EM will get a pittance, but still something
Games industry is so fucked up these days >.>

same deal for us europeans. 45€ are like 65$.
tho now with the steam trade beta there is always the option to buy tf2 items for $(there are places where its quite safe) and then trade them for games. as crazy as it sounds that way you can save up to 40% if you have to pay one of the rip off prices.
