So just finished the game. Loved the first, didn't like the second so much, but I think DX3 is pretty good overall.
Gameplay wise, I quite enjoyed it. Good balance of vent crawling/hacking/stealthy takedowns. Game was a good length, about 19 hours for me, completing a decent number of side quests.
Having the four endings just plain sucked. Too contrived, too obvious, and none of the endings were particularly satisfying. Especially when you saw them coming a mile off, talking to Darrow, Taggart & Sarif. I know multiple endings are part of the Deus ex thing, but at least make them seem organic, rather than PRESS THIS BUTTON FOR ENDING A! PRESS THIS BUTTON FOR ENDING B!
I thought the plot was quite interesting, in a typical Deus Ex overdone future of humanity in the balance, Illuminati, clandestine government organisations way. But the ending was lame. It was the way it was done. Funny that the sequel of a game which innovated so much and was such a trailblazer, ended up being stuck in the tradition of it's own series.
And the boss fights were terrible as well. Do them properly or get rid of them ffs.
Felt like they rushed a lot of the characters at the very end, all the "closure" was talking to each major character once before the end of the game, then watching a cinematic (not even from game footage). Wasn't too satisfied with the ending, wish they actually had cutscenes with characters and how they functioned after whatever choice you made. Good game, but not GOTY 2011.
Time is short. "The Missing Link" is on sale on Steam -66% for a very short time. I don't know if the sale ends January 1st or if that's just the last day that new deals appear, and then it runs for another few days. But now is a good time, plus a bunch of other stuff is on sale. Treat yourselves. Thanks again whoever tipped me about Steam sales (Torte iirc).
Sorry to bump an old thread but Deus EX:Human Revolution is 66% off this weekend, only $10.19. I never got around to pick up this game but with this sale, I'll be grabbing it after work.
I finished dx:hr and The Missing Link over the last couple of days and am still pumped. Is there any recent (last ~5-6 years perhaps?) game similar to it, primarily in quality but optimally in setting/atmosphere as well, that you guys could recommend? I <3 cyberpunk!
It's discounted 50% if you already own the game, and another 25% if you own the Missing Link, too, so I can buy it for $4.99.
It features "enhanced visuals," boss fights redone, which presumably means you can use a stealthy approach, plus you get "All bonus content," which for me is nice since I always wanted to play the Tong mission. I'm about to buy it, I liked it well enough in the first place (150 hours played, according to Steam).
