Can you only work 3 tiles out from a city still?
Is wide just straight up better than tall in this game like Endless Legends?

If there's a good expansion spot (fresh water, luxuries/strategic resources, high production), you should take it. Settling shit cities in the middle of nowhere probably isn't a good idea unless you're capped out in your main cities and don't have much to do. Beyond that, I think that expansion should be done in multiples of four given that that is how luxuries are distributed across the empire (ie you need 1 of a given luxury for every four cities that you have). I will say this however: my best starts are the ones where I'm able to conquer a neighbor within the first hundred turns. The boost that you get from the extra territory and infrastructure is huge. As for district order, you got me. I'm still figuring that one out. Campuses and holy sites are both very strong for their own reasons and are good picks for your initial districts. You eventually will need an industrial zone in every city. Commercial hubs are also critical for getting your money going -- particularly if you plan on fielding a large military. You can pass on encampments for as long as you have two of whatever strategic resource that you need. You need a good number of theater districts -- and especially a couple early -- to power your social policy teching.

Other than that, it's just cogs all the way, and from there you add what you need. Production is a pita this game, and builders being limited doesn't help one single bit (and it's annoying as fuck imo). yea the builders being limited is extremely frustrating i did a cultural victory without truly knowing what i was doing since the game is still quite different from civ 5, there is a lot of subtility to master, specially when it comes to the first district emissary for the city state is an awesome mecanic imo at my first try diplomacy was useless the whole game for me

Theater ones are also more useful for them, so the extra slot could be used for that and trying to get all the great works one can to fill them up. Really like their concept since if they hit their curve they grow faster than anybody else.

Basically you build a lot of archers for defense and 3-4 warriors. Critically, you have to save your gold for the upgrades. Your third city should be dropped near iron so that you can mine it. Once iron is online, upgrade your warriors to swordsmen and go kill your neighbor. If no iron is nearby, then build heavy chariots and prepare go for the stirrups tech to upgrade them to knights. What's your army comp? I'm still doing the old Civ V ratio of 8:1ish ranged vs. melee, but I noticed the battering ram unit let's your melees attack through the city defense. Versus cities with difficult terrain, it takes a really long time to get all my archers set up so they can siege at once, just like in V, but there's no city bombardment without ancient walls so early war in general is easier. Also feel like the AI should be spamming way more units.

Swordsmen with a battering ram make taking cities almost trivial. And if you aren't seeing enough unit spam, try immortal. I outright die in about half my starts from either barb spam or a really nasty and early AI DoW.

Either give Apostles, & Inquisitors more strength in home territory or something. Yeah, I agree. I abandoned my previously mentioned Arabia game just because dealing with the missionary and apostle spam was a chore.

Anyway I too had problems with games loading until I added it to Windows Security Essentials(im a W7 guy still), loaded really fast afterwards. Having a lot of fun so far though, great to experiment with districts and I think ill just go for a domination victory with someone or something. It also feels like that the AI is stronger at King difficulty then it was in Civ 5 (I could handle Immortal in civ 5) but I think that probably has to do with me not knowing wtf to do(appearently massive expansion is nice too). Feel like Warmongering is more fun too. Definitely have high hopes for this game, likely will also have some great mods. time to watch some Marbozir or some shit before going to bed lol. Also barbs, barbs are a fuckton more annoying at the start then they were in Civ5(mostly because the AI took care of them).

So much for peaceful expansion far away from rivals. Five cigs are acting like All Aztec All The Time.

Not even ten turns later, its Germany/Brazil. This time I take Pedro's capital. But before his ally makes peace, here comes Greece/Arabia. And for some reason Japan too. I have zero infrastructure, two districts, barely breaking even on gold (pillage & sue for peace gpt keeping it up), and falling way behind in science. So much for peaceful expansion far away from rivals. Five cigs are acting like All Aztec All The Time. The AI civs are definitely very aggressive against players. You basically are forced to play the early conqueror game because you have no choice but to invest heavily in a military. If you don't put those units to use, you'll just fall behind.
