I am no game developer but it really feels like the production behind this is a 2 man job or something. When it first announced i was really excited cause they were planning on using a new game engine. Everyone felt joy at that moment cause we realized finally we could get zombies with proper AI, better animations and gameplay. But they settled with a Arma 2.5 engine so they are still struggling with basic stuff like the zombie AI and even the GUI of the game. The latest video posted here consists of them bragging about beeing able to move around inventory in the screen ........... And at gamescom we could see the really lacking zombie AI which is not changed at all, they just shorten the follow radius and made some better logic for them to move, and added a jumping attack which looked really really really awful.

I dunno, i think the visions of Rocket is awesome but he is in the wrong team. I really love the Arma games for what they are, but Arma 3 with its current state in beta has still the same issues like before. The developers cant seem to fix it. The AI is really lacking still due to the heavy focus upon easy scripting. Weird gameplay like not beeing able to jump, you can only climb over which also looks really weird. There is no real fluid animations like modern games have today. Everything is so scripted in the Arma games. The only stuff that its good is the realism and scale of the game. They are 10 years behind in everything else.

Dudes should spend less time fucking around with game shows and all that bullshit. No product is what they get for concentrating on that. I bought Arma2 for DayZ back in 2012 and they immediately stopped developing for it right after. Looks like the community has been updating it since. Nothing to show since then, this will most likely fail or remain vapourware now. Sorry to be so harsh but I was very optimistic about this last year.

They really did do a bit of a poor job on this.
There was so much fucking hype for the game, and now it looks like they're not really getting much interest anymore :/

The problem is, that while the Arma Engine offers something in scale, it hurts them in so many other ways.
AI, UI and other aspects of that engine are borderline broken or so hard to repair, that it destroys the strength of the developers, which lie in creativity and not in grinding stupid repairs.
It's such a shame, i'd be pumped to play this if it wasn't such a messy game. Which was fine for DayZ mod for a while, but that's it then.

Once again Destiny was right, but of course all the fanboys on r/dayz all lashed out on him.

you wanna flesh this out a bit? destiny is pretty much incorrect on everything always, but it's really not fun or informative if you're going to post on teamliquid telling me to go to reddit if I want to comprehend your meaning.

Basically he created this whole thread on reddit saying rocket was going nowhere with this project and how they're not focusing on fixing bugs and instead designing clothes and playing with aesthetics which should be one of the last things debs should be doing. Then the hive mind goes ape shit saying its in beta, destiny responds to everyone and eventually rages, resulting in a ban from the subreddit.

Who really takes Destiny seriously though? His strategy is usually to create drama and yell louder than the other guy. And Reddit: just a site for casuals to discuss things, please don't think any posts there are authoritative. Please don't look at them as a hub for rational thought (although they aren't exempt of it) and instead as just a popular topic site.

Edit: grammar.

Sounds like he was right on that though.

Aside from that, I would be interested to see how many people bought Arma II because they wanted to play Arma II or because they wanted to play DayZ, and furthermore of those people who bought it for DayZ, who bothered to play Arma II for any length of time.

I figure that the numbers should be around 30% (Arma II) and 70% DayZ, and the second statistic to be about 5%. God I just feel that although some people say the zombie genre is 'dying out', that it is far stronger than ever before and people are DESPERATE for good games to come out with zombies. It seems that games who get it right like L4D and Resi 4 are adored by the public. It sucks that the last good film with zombies was 28 days later or possibly .Rec. I haven't played the last of us but I have plans to play it, but I really enjoyed TWD, had a certain amount of fun with dead island...and I just feel there is so much more to be done!!!!

My desire for there to be a standalone dayz or at least something that has fast zombies + good atmosphere + realistic experience is almost as high as my desire for a new shenmue game (which anyone who has checked my blogs will know is a very intense desire).

Roger on that.

I don't know if it still exists, but the funnest zombie game experience I have ever had was CS:Source with the Zombie mod script on. The one where the humans would have to make barricades with the furniture and then stun the zombies (who were hit-point buffed players as well, wielding only a knife) away as they tried to dismantle it. I've been looking for something similar to that with more polish (as it is just a mod script - no new models, etc.) since then but nothing ever came. Some of my best zombie game memories are from that and it is quite sad when you think about it as I have played most zombie-related games since. None of them were close to emulating that psychological dread and terror of the unknown but Day Z was close (because of player killers, not the zombies too).

Suprised to see so much pessimism for the game. People forget how much of wave DayZ mod first caused, the hype has well and truly died down but I am certain that once the alpha is released people will flock back. Truth is it is hard to know all the ins and outs regarding their resources and what they are working on, I've watched the devblogs and they excite me. The game will be unique and I am sure it will pave the way for many great games of the genre- I have faith.

As a community we all bitch and moan about how games are released before they are finished and then we pay money for expansion sets which are more finished products. So what if they take a bit more time- no one wants to play a slightly improved DayZ mod.

So meanwhile we've heard that they're still working on this.
I still find it more then questionable that they're working on that graphics engine, it's causind more problems than it actually offers.
This game, should it ever come out, might still have a chance though, as none of the other zombie games has been really successfull so far.

What?
L4D, Dead Island or even Zombies in Call of Duty don't ring a bell?

He's talking about zombie survival games obviously (War Z, Nether, ...).

Those are all games where the zombies could have been switched out with clowns, and you'd have the exact same game. I refuse to believe you've ever tried dayz if those are the games you're comparing it to

Believe me, I tried DayZ and had some fun with it until due to bugs and glitches my stuff was gone and I was spawning somewhere else. After gathering equipment and running from house to house for hours. The basic idea of survival is genius though.
I refuse to believe that this should be more fun than playing "clown" games (which is a stupid argument to begin with)-

I think simply removing the hacks and glitches from the game will be enough for me to get back into it.

Those are not zombie survival games but FPS games with zombies.... Play DayZ (or watch some game play) you'll understand

If you want difference i will tell you this.
In Dead island, l4d, cod zombie => You shoot or you die (because you know... Zombie)
In DayZ => If you shoot, you die :p => Because sound attracks them and they kill you.

Stopped following this for a while. Do we have an estimated realse date ?

No, nothing yet. Which is why this game is becoming a source of frustration rather than excitement atm.
