Why are you guys criticizing Lebron for not making a really dumb, selfish basketball play?
Correction. He is the best player on that team. It is actually much smarter for him to make a selfish play than beam the ball the opposite corner of the court to a guy that wasn't even open. He has the best athletic ability to create a shot for himself.
exactly this. Lebron isnt a clutch player. Sure you can score and make good plays, but you wont be great until you can perform under alot of pressure and make those game winning shots
Sounds like people didn't even watch the game. First pass to deron williams was great, go with that 100% of the time, wide open look that just didn't go down while lebron drew a lot of attention. Then they get the rebound, lebron is covered by 2 people on the outside, decides to pass it up with 5 seconds left and it creates a turnover because no one was open and it was a forced pass rather than just taking a long 3. Then they get the ball back with 1 second left and he's inbounding rather than being an option at all when he's sank like 6 3's the same game.
Aside from the fact that it's just an all star game, I don't see how you can discount all the 3s he hit at the end of the game to say he isn't clutch. o.o Like itsmedudeman said, both of his options were pretty terrible at the end of the game. It's a 30 foot 3 with 2 defenders or trying to thread a pass. If DWill hits the 3 like he should've, people would be praising Lebron for facilitating for that team.
I can't find a replay of the first pass, but his second pass, he had two people (probably williams) wide open on the perimeter, they're calling for the ball. His pass is too short, but it was the right play.
I'm sorry, but a lot of you guys are looking at dumb narratives without even understanding what the basic plays are. I'm no expert myself, but I know that passing to an open 3 point shooter is obviously a good thing. And because it's the all star game, you're passing to good players.

That is such a dumb idea. I'm glad the NBA doesn't do this.
why is it a dumb idea? i'm not provoking you, but it would be good if you elaborated...

Giving home court to the winner of the All Star game is a terrible idea. It is just all sorts of shenanagins with a high likelihood of injury.
Why should whether or not Deron Williams plays hard (and risks injury) impact the Heat's chances to win the title.

It's near the end. From where he was, there wasn't a clear path to any of them. Carmelo is sort of open for a moment at the top, but it's a hard pass and he still doesn't necessarily get a clean shot off. Howard has space, but Kobe's in the way of that pass. DWill is covered. Wade is the best combination of space + clear passing lane of any of them, but even he's too deep which is why Blake can get to it.
nah just think that the first 3 quarters of the game is the REAL slam dunk contest plus you get a 12 minute bonus of the best players in the nba playing semi-competitvely.
The thing at stake is competition and having fun. That's all there needs to be. Guys don't go all out in an All-Star game because it would be absolutely dumb and their teams would go ape shit. Every star in the league is instructed to keep his minutes down and take it easy.
The game is played so the fans can see some entertainment, the top players in the league can have fun and make a game out of it, and you get to see some flashy moves. It's very rare for any All-Star game to be serious from beginning to end. Not many people want to see a 89-89 game at the end with tons of defense being played.

not to mention the fan voting. Home Court Advantage is HUGE and fans should have no say in that. I don't like how MLB does that either.
And about LeBron, he made the right play, passing to DWill, who had a good look. But his last pass was terrible. If he wanted to pass, hit Melo who was open or take the shot yourself.
I didn't know that's how MLB did it, but that would straight up the dumbest thing ever in the NBA. Why should your conference and a group of players determine which team gets home court advantage when that team doesn't give a shit about how any other team does but its own? The team's own performance should be the one determining their own advantage. And I'd also say home court means a LOT more in basketball than baseball since momentum and the atmosphere are very different.
I wish LeBron would take that shot, first pass was absolutely the right thing to do, but that second one was bad. Don't know if the talk about him not being clutch have got to him, but it felt like it there. I hope it hasn't, he's the best player in the NBA, and deserve a ring or two.
If there's one game in a season where even the biggest critics won't hate on you for taking the last shot, it's the All-Star game.. you'd probably get more flack for passing it than not ;D
.. anyway, LeBron played great throughout, people can't harp on him, because without him the East would've never been in a comeback situation

2:19 ish the Melo pass is pretty open, and its his best option I dont see how you can argue that, pass cetainly isnt hard compared to what he tried. He just didnt look, he had eyes on Batman the entire time and a Lebron thinking properly doesnt do things like that hes too good a passer to be doing things like that. I dont think its a big deal. Wouldve been nice if hed been selfish though, clearly to scared to fall on his face.
I dont get how Wade is a clear passing lane unless you mean having to lob it over his defenders at that distance so that 3 others have a chance to put a paw in is a clear passing lane. And even then the time the pass travels he wouldve had potentially 2 guys on him already set if not more. I dont care that Lebron messed up, but you can certainly criticize him for making a bad decision. Sure its the all star game doesnt matter etc etc but go tell him that. They wanted to win.
Did the East have any good 3 point shooters on their team? Granted Lebron was pretty hot last night, but him making 6 3 pointers is a gross aberration. There was just an article about how he's increased his shooting % by shooting closer to the basket. That said, D-Will was clearly off towards the end of the game and I don't think anyone else on the floor was remotely good (maybe Carmelo) so maybe if I'm Lebron I take the shot.
However, Michael Jordan to Steve Kerr is the correct response in that situation. Yes, he's the best player on the court, but he's probably not the best 3 point shooter on the court.
