Well, should we expect 4 games like the Rome hit or what? Of course not...

Depends how much the Canucks whine, that and diving seems about all they're accomplishing right now.

Seems all you can accomplish is repeating stupid media hype instead of actually watching the game.

You kidding me? Vancouver has a ton of talent, but are constantly side tracked by themselves. It's evidenced in Lapierre getting caught up with Doughty tonight and getting called, and Kesler and Burrows both diving rather than just playing hard (they're actually good players when they play well). Look at Brown, took a hip check and got back up and kept playing..and now he has the first goal.

Examples of Kesler and Burrows diving? Lapierre got a penalty because Doughty came over and slashed him. Wow, what a whining team.

Do you really want to go down that road? The refs have them regarded as divers on their list man for a reason. Hence they don't get as many calls going their way.

I thought Doughty retailated afterwards.

He should have been gone too. No denying that. Those two were really going at it even before the actual faceoff and it didn't let up until after the play was called.

Yes, I do, because it's just bullshit. Other teams dive just as much. People are just sheep and repeat what they hear others say about Vancouver or Crosby. Kesler gets crosschecked three times after the play and falls down. Wow, what a dive.

No they don't. This isn't soccer. There will always be those who embelish a play when they feel the tug, but when you overdo like Kesler and Burrows. I cannot feel sorry for them at all. There's a really shortlist of players who dive that the refs have an eye on. Once you make the list its next to impossible to get off it.

Stop focusing on one play and look at the bigger picture. If someone wants to put heat on that one situation then let them and don't let it get to you lmao.

The problem is officiating. It's rediculously inconsistent. If Kesler doesn't go down after the 3 cross-checks he probably doesn't get the call. If Lapierre hit the ice after Brown's retaliation they probably both go. The players know this. The Canucks tried to let the refs call bullshit last year like Marchand punching Sedin but look what happened, nothing.

When the players are frustrated they go out of their way to MAKE the refs take notice. In the NHL though, that doesn't help so the teams get to take shots (sometimes at stars with 4th line roll players) with no calls, no suspensions and you end up with a weekend of games like we had that got out of control.

I think you mean Drew.

Playoffs have always been about grit. Yes, there are a lot of miscalls because there is so much shit happening after the play and during. The players are making the refs work overtime.

To snip it in the butt you have to get the players off the ice right away and yes, start making more calls especially during game 3 between the Penguins and Flyers to let the players know that you're taking control of the game once again and those shenanigans have to come to an end.

There are better ways of bringing it to the refs attention than what the Vancouver and Pittsburgh are known for.

Hell, I remember when Toronto had to deal with those same shenanigans and they became one of the most penalitized teams and known for complaining to the refs. You still got to bring your big boy pants to the dance and those bumps you were talking about that Kesler took was nothing.

He lost his balance because he had his stake turned in awkwardly. It would only take a small shove to have him falling like Hartnell.

as long as the NHL owners view the chaos as good for business things will continue with 1 game suspensions and $2,500 fines.

i think the owners, presidents and GMs attending games like the Rangers/Ottawa game 2 hear the atmosphere and feel the emotion in the crowd created by these brawls and are reluctant to legislate them out of the game.

the kind of silliness that occurred this weekend has been all but eliminated in every team sport where the league wanted it eliminated... i still can't believe repeat head hunting offender Shea Weber got a $2,500 fine lolz.

Shanahan is looking more and more like Collie as the playoffs grind on.

That's my point. I won't defend diving but I can understand why the players are doing it. Kesler and Burrows have it more in their nature to embellish and once you get that reputation the refs puts their whistles away. The reason Kesler embellished was to draw the penalty (which he got) all while he took 3 shots after the whistle. If you want to cut out the after the whistle stuff, which the NHL seems more than reluctant to do despite the lip service they pay to removing it from the game, then they need to address it with penalties/fines/etc.

As for Shanahan, what ever happened to the "Department of Player Safety"? So 3 games to Hagelin, $2500 fine to Weber... Galiardi on McDonald, well that's 2 minutes... Burns, yep, that's 2 for roughing... Carkner gets 1 for what he did? But Rome got 4 in the finals last year during a series where the officials didn't even seem to be present on the ice.

Shanahan was only hired as a puppet of the NHL, he can have his own decisions on what punishments are dealt with, but in the end Bettman and Campbell will have the final say.

I knew it would come to this come playoff time. Pretty sure its the same thing the NHL told the officials by letting the boys play it out and police themselves. I wouldn't want to be a ref in the playoffs atm because the animosity is through the roof in every series. Well, I guess Florida v.s. New Jersey series has been pretty civil compared to the rest, but there's still a lot of shit going on during and after the whistles. The refs need to tell them to cut the crap and if not they'll box em' to get a better stranglehold over the game.

Brendan is in no position to really do shit. At the end of the day players will always find a way when it comes to policing and dishing out and taking bumps. If you are near or around the puck you should expect to take a bump everytime.

Rome absolutely deserved four. That hit was retarded, even by 90s standards. Late as hell, jumped to get him in the head.

after that riot last year, I can't wait for vancouver to get eliminated 0-4. I'd rather no canadian team win than the canuks taking it home.

that being said, with no horse in this race I tend to be going for teams losing, bos, pitt, van, than any one team winning. pitt losing their manhood, and vancouvers lack of scoring make me very happy as a casual fan.

Henrik Lundqvist stole the show in Ottawa.

Sens better hope Alfie comes back soon and hell, they have to stop turning the puck over so much.

Close game Sens versus Rangers. I'm from Ottawa, but honestly, I thought the Sens played an overall better game. They did turnover a lot of the pucks, but Lundqvist was unbelievable. Anderson was pretty damn good too, but Rangers today got the lucky bounce and the Sens did not.

Ya those 1-0 games are tough to lose but at least you arent SJ, the only team that clearly didnt belong in the same series as their opponent.

The Rangers did get outplayed tonight. Doesn't help when no one was covering Boyle let alone tying up his stick.

SJ should have some confidence going into the next game considering they crawled back to make it 3-4 at the end of that game.

Their penalty kill was dire. - -

From what I remember, someone was covering the passing lane between Callahan to Boyle, and Callahan backed it off the back of the net and it bounced onto Boyle's stick.

No Boyle was wide open when he should have been tied down. There were two Sens right in front of the Net and another guy chasing the puck behind the net. There is no reason why they shouldn't have been jockeying for position. Instead all of them were watching the play as it developed. One guy going in is fine but the fact no one was doing anything in front of the net and just standing there = bad. They should have been trying to box Boyle out.

To reiterate: three red shirts were playing the puck instead of the body. It's up to the D to not miss their assignments and in this case they did. It was bad zone coverage.

Yeah Boyle definitely should have had a body on him.

The Rangers were getting outplayed quite a lot offensively and in the neutral zone. Defensively, they looked great though

Game 3 was fun to watch for me. Play got a little chippy at times but not too bad. If Backstrom gets suspended at all I would be completely shocked given how hands off Shanahan has been at dishing out serious punishments.
