I'm all for standards, but rather than encouraging him in the off-season, they rather toss him aside and aim for yet another superstar. This is the exact mentality of why Lakers fans are stereotypically disliked by other communities.
Keep in mind Gasol is an All-Star caliber player. He did not play like one since the first half of the season, but it's in there somewhere.
I'm a Nets fan btw so it's not like I'm some Mavs fan heaping it on lol
I know, Gasol is the only reason LA won twice in a row. They wouldn't even be dreaming about getting there without him, and the way he was killing Cs in finals was just so infuriating to celtics fans. So ungrateful lol.
LA fans truly are ones of the most clueless fans in the country (maybe miami is getting there nowadays).
I made the brutal mistake of going to ESPN boards after the game. I forgot what the internet is like outside of Teamliquid..... never again.
Edit: Also Laker fans, please remember one of Bill Simmon's rules of being a true fan.
After your team wins a championship, they immediately get a five-year grace period: You can't complain about anything that happens with your team (trades, draft picks, salary-cap cuts, coaching moves) for five years. There are no exceptions
Just saw the Bynum play (turned the game off after 3 quarters), and it reminded me of this:
Eerily similar. Two teams having their threepeat hopes dashed in humiliating 4-0 fashion, going for cheap retribution, and looking classless afterward.
Gratz to Dallas fans on their team dismantling the lakers.
I watched the game in a room full of lakers fan and one dallas fan - so, at least one person in los angeles was happy about the result. Personally, I'm still in denial. Maybe the league will let them go to best of 9 on tuesday.

I'm sorry but I disagree. Teams with "true fans" languish in mediocrity/badness. The Cubs have plenty of "true fans", the Steelers have "good fans." Fans should be informed, know the game, and save criticism for when it is deserved.

ESPN boards are the pits. See so many "made up facts" there it's entertaining

Being a Laker fan, I just can't help but feel a little pissed off considering they got swept. Plus with the likely retirement of Phil, its going to be much harder for the team to win championships. Yeah sue me if Im not defined as a 'true fan'.
But today Dallas totally outplayed us with a 3-point storm. >.<. Props to Jason Terry and Peja
The Pau situation is why is dislike the Lakers fans so much (except Xeris and Cyric!).
The guy has been an absolute star since he came from Memphis, was an essential piece in winning 2 championships, and the classless fans now start bashing on the guy. I know it's not all the fans and many appreciate what he has done for them, but the guy deserves way more respect than he's currently getting (see FlashFTW as an example).

You obviously haven't been soul crushed by defeat enough. As a Dallas sports fan, the thought of winning a championship supersedes any other positive emotions I could imagine. I don't think I could complain for years after it. Be careful not to fall into the spoiled/entitled mindset.
Also your harsh and irrational criticism isn't going to change anything. Level headed discussion is obviously encouraged, but the "PAU IS BAD" and "TRADE EVERYONE" arguments are all too common.

well said. After 2008 vs KG he responded to the criticism and helped win the chip on 09. Last year vs Boston imo he was the best player for the Lakers in that series. Totally willed them to that Game 7 win. Has always been their most consistent player but gets so much flak once things go wrong.
Laker's problem is Kobe stop making shots and refs stop calling fouls for him, so many times i saw him turns the ball over and turns around staring at the refs
Film of the stands during Game 1 and 2 at Staple Center should be played repeatedly for all Laker fans. It's just more testimonial to the fact that Laker fans are the worst fans in the United States. They think winning is their birthright or something. Laker fans just don't understand how lucky they are to have a player like Kobe Bryant and a coach like Phil Jackson.

I say SCREW Gasol for the stuff he did. Which is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Seriously GO BACK TO SPAIN! We need to begin rebuilding... already. after 3 years, gasol leads the lakers to get swept by the mavs. everyone else did all they needed to. Bryant, Bynum, Artest. Well, maybe no the defense on Dirk, but still. At this point, im being mocked at school (live in NJ, die hard laker fan) and lose hope in the Lakers... excuse me, Pau Gasol. Trade him, get rid of him, I DONT CARE. just make sure he finds a new team to choke on. thank you have a nice day.
You're an idiot. If you really are a die hard laker fan you would know they wouldn't even make it this far without Gasol.
