Alright guys, it's that time of the year again. The time where I often find myself procrastinating and doing worse in spring quarter just to watch another goddamn playoffs game!

Regular season thread can be found here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=163908

There's a lot of hype to this year's playoffs! Huge team changes both preseason and midseason, bulls are at #1 spot on East (doubt anyone truly predicted this preseason), Lakers going for a 3peat, how good will the heats do? etc etc

Quick reminders of the 1st round matchups (thanks NBA for pics!)

Most of the nba thread regular posters have already made their predictions on the regular season thread, if you guys want to repost them here i think it'd be nice.

I haven't made predictions on every matchup, and I don't think I will, but I'm just hoping for a bulls/thunder finals! This year is awesome because I think there's many teams that have a lot to prove!

NBA PLAYOFFS.... where AMAZING happens!!!

Pro basketball has gotta be the toughest pro sport to play, endurance wise. Each game is intense and consistently requires explosive movements (unless your Pau Gasol). The season lasts forever, then you've got a long, long post season, which is more intense than the season.

Then if you're good and healthy enough, you may play for the US during the summer. I have no idea how guys like DRose and Westbrook play year round when their games are so explosion based.

Boxing is waaaaaay more taxing than basketball (unless you meant among team sports).

Rose and Westbrook are still very, very young.

The big criticism of the NBA is that the players do not play 100% in all the games of the regular season. While I agree, I tend to believe that the fault of that lays at the feet of the league and not the players. The playoffs are indeed tough and physical throughout - I doubt that we'll see players like Lebron, Rose, Wade and Westbrook get to the rim as easily as they did in thee regular season.

Yeah I agree, we will definitely still see them getting to that rim, but if they cant get their team into their plays they wont survive playoffs =)

There's a reason that the only PGs that last into their late 30s are those with size/strength and solid jump shots. Just think of the old PGs in the league right now: Kidd, Chauncey, Nash... they all have strong jumpshots and don't rely on penetration and explosiveness to score or dish the ball. Chauncey/Nash are definately in the top 3 in terms of PG shooting (along with stephen curry) while Nash isn't a fantastic shooter but does have range (can shoot the 3ball) and has size/strength/fantastic court vision. They're the type of players that can have long sustainable careers at point.

That explosiveness will leave westbrook/rose eventually. Rose is atleast a decent shooter. But westbrook likely won't be relevant into his mid-late 30s unless he gets some more range.

You kind of have it backwards. Nash is a brilliant shooter lacks size and strength; Chauncey is simply a strong shooter with size. I have never thought of Jason Kidd, despite his many talents, as a jump shooter.

Gonna copy my predictions over from the other thread and add a finals prediction.

Chicago vs. Indiana: Bulls streamroll. Indiana extremely lucky to take a game. 4-0
Miami vs. Philadelphia: Philly will take a game. 4-1
Boston vs. New York: NY will take a game, maybe 2. 4-1
Orlando vs. Atlanta: Floundering hawks will flounder. 4-2

Chicago vs. Orlando: Orlando will grab 2 games but they can't beat the bulls. 4-2
Boston vs. Miami: This will go the distance. I say Boston. 4-3

Chicago vs. Boston: Celtics win 4-3.

SA vs. Memphis: Memphis is going to take it far but won't win. 4-3 or 4-2 for SA.
LA vs. NO: NO has been slumping and without west can't take a game. 4-0
Dallas vs. Portland: Portlands good enough to take 2 games. 4-2
OKC vs. Denver: Ty lawson injury?? Uh oh. With him, they can take a few games (4-3). But if Lawsons out, they are going to get rocked (4-1).

SA vs. OKC: I like OKC here. It'll be an awesome series though. 4-3 for OKC.
LA vs. Dallas: No contest IMO. LA is going to take it 4-2.

LA vs. OKC: I think next year is when OKC really starts to destroy the west. For now they're going to fall here. LA 4 - 2 OKC.

LA vs. Boston: LA 4 - 3 Boston.

IMO this is the last year these two teams will be championship contenders. The lakers may have another season or two in them, but I don't think they'll be able to overcome OKC beyond this year. Boston is done after this year. They probably won't be able to handle the bulls or heat next year. And if there is a lockout next year, you better believe they won't be competing 2 years from now.

I actually just desperately want to see these two teams face off one last time before they're both relics. So my predictions are more me hoping than me realistically expecting lol

I meant to say size/strength or strong jumpshots (or a combination of both). Apologies. But these are two things that westbrook certainly doesn't have (yet... he could develop that jumpshot).

Kidd isn't a fantastic shooter. But he certainly is a strong shooter (especially a few years ago). I mean he is something like 4th all time in 3ptm (or 5th?).
