Mavs have history on their side, but i have this sick gut feeling the lakers are gonna be the first team to win a series after being down 0-3. I have a sick gut feeling that the 2004 Lakers are going to be the first team to come back from being down 1-3 and win the 2004 nba finals vs Detroit. You give them way too much credit. The Lakers were lucky to escape with a game 7 win last year, and Pau and Kobe are just a lot worse now (age?).
u know that it's 0-3 and that 0-3 teams are 0-98 at this point, right? if they manage to come back it would be truly historical.
also hoping for miami - dallas. 2006 payback is about time.
I feel like one of the reasons dallas plays so well in the 4th (judging from interviews/recaps highlights as the game is at fuckin 4:30 in germany) is that dirk seems to get the ball in the crunch. This was simply not the case 5 years ago. We were watching the game and it was always like 'come on give dirk the ball, he's blazing. WHY WOULD YOU TAKE THAT SHOT AND NOT GIVING DIRK THE BALL???'.
Now, Dirk opens the play and has to be double teamed...not that this matters. he just scores or passes for open 3s.
Dirk in crunch time=win!

i don't think basketball is volatile enough of a sport to easily allow a team to win a best of 7 after being down 3 games. it's happened a few times in hockey where the goal differential was 1 or 2. if it were to finally happen in the NBA, it would either be where the 2 teams are evenly matched and all the games came down to the final minute, or where the dominant team has a star player coming off an injury.
but the Mavs have been completely outplaying the Lakers, and it's not because of Kobe's ankle. a team coming back after down 3 games will eventually happen, but not in this series.

I don't like the Lakers, but if I had to pick a team to choke with a 3-0 lead, it'd be Dallas. And if I had to pick a team to have the amazing luck of coming back from such a deficit, it'd be the Lakers.
I don't really care though; just want the Celtics to prove they are still truly elite.

Much easier in hockey as one player(goalie) has so much influence on the game, and beast mode or a choke can swing it.
Just watched the tivo of lakers game and wow kobe and pau just look soft. I think kobe has gotten to the rim like 2x in 3 games, and this team has 0 fire in their eyes. End of lakers era i think as jackson retiring after this year and kobe is getting older and their depth is crap.

Also ive loved dirk his whole career i just think he has never really had a playoff team around him before the last couple years.
|
What a difference Chandler makes. I think he's the one they've needed all these years (well, other than the year when they really should've won and just blew it...).
Gasol looked horrible, but Kobe had one of his best games in recent years. Kidd got to play 1v1 defense on him on so many plays... Kobe will score 80% of the time in this situation.
After my Spurs lost I'm really rooting for Dirk to finally get his ring! He deserves it more than anyone.

Have you seen the games? There is no way the Lakers can win 4 in a row they way both teams are playing

Seeing how the Lakers play and their body language, there's almost no hope for them coming back. Winning 4 games in a row is just impossible.
Dirk go for the ring !!!!! I believe !!!

The reason it happens in hockey has almost nothing to do with goalkeeping, and everything to do with the results in that sport being more random. In hockey the worse team probably has a 40-45% chance of winning, while in basketball it probably only has a 20-30% chance of winning a game. So in hockey you are basically flipping a coin every game, its easy to get 3 heads, then 4 tails. Basketball is more like a dice where the worse team is only six. Its pretty rare to roll 3 sixes in a row and then four non-sixes or vice versa.

There's always a chance. Weirder things have happened than a Laker comeback.
I won't feel safe until Mavs are up 10 with less than a minute to go.
Dirk has really improved his passing compared to 2006. Its pretty risky to try to double him now with Mavs having so many shooters.
If you don't double him, he creates matchup problems for most defenders that you stick on him. He'll shoot over small forwards and drive the lane or pick and pop against big guys.

The Lakers need to work on having at least one defender on dirk before they even start thinking about sending two

You guys want to know something? There is NO ONE at bigger fault in this extremely dissapointing LA Playoff run than Pau Gasol. SERIOUSLY! 13.8ppg 8.4rpg. NOT EVEN A DOUBLE DOUBLE! as big of a hardcore LA fan that i am, im losing hope. FAST. i still have hope though. but now im rooting for the GRIZZLIES to take the title!!! xD

Pau needs to be taking fouls -- as is he is just playing so passive.

The last few plays by Fisher were goddamn stupid, what is wrong with him?
Bynum played well and deserves better than these jokers

He's guarding Dirk who is torching him. He's got a tough 2 way play this series so it's expected he's going to struggle. Kobe just doesn't get as much flak even when he gets torched by really good SGs because there aren't many in the league.

It is just classic Pau, he is just being himself. I feel really bad for Kobe, not that I am a Kobe fan, but he must hate his teammates. Two of his best guys don't care about winning (Pau/Odom) another is an idiot (Artest) and the last is a crybaby (Bynum). The only other player on the team that care is Fish, and unfortunately, he sucks. Honestly it might be even worse than not caring (guys like Longley and Pippen weren't exactly hardcore) Pau and Odom actively engage in psychological sabotage of the team.

what are you talking about? How do you figure Pau and Odom don't care about winning?

Pau needs to make it just as tough of a 2 way game for Dirk though. Dirk isn't a bad defender, but he certainly isn't great. Pau should be getting 20ppg in this series. So not only is he struggling defensively, which is understandable against a player like Dirk, but he isn't doing much on offense.

So many things wrong with this post. You really think Pau and Odom don't care about winning? And you call Pippen someone who didn't care?

Pippen just wasn't as hardcore as Jordan. And Odom/Pau clearly don't care, its obvious by their effort, demeanor, and consistent inability to play up to their talent levels. If those 2 were at Pippen competitiveness levels the Lakers would have had 65 wins + and be on their way to a second sweep (plus probably a 4-peat).
