It didn't make much sense as a change fluff-wise though, lol. "Modern guns use thermal clips to blah blah". So you'd invented a gun which didn't need ammo.... and then decided to go back to a clip-based weapon? Wat.

The original plan in Mass Effect 2 was to use "heat clips" for "rapid" fire, and allow for an indefinite "slow" fire/overheat cycle when you ran out of "heat clips"...just like Mass Effect 1. Which actually makes a lot of sense. Like removable machine-gun barrels from modern times.

The justification? Advances in weapons technology after the Geth/Reaper invasion.

Unfortunately, they couldn't balance the system in time for release, so they just took out non-heat-clip firing altogether. You can still find the hybrid system in the game with the power of Google.

Hopefully, they get the hybrid system worked out for ME3.

Im not worried at all about ME3 having multiplayer. Can think of countless games where having multiplayer did not affect singleplayer at all.

I have zero problems with them adding a multiplayer if they don't take anything away from the single player.

I'm so excited for this game. please please please come faster.

Pretty much the same sentiment as everyone else. As long as it doesn't affect the single player, I am fine with it. More time spent on the game for achievements. lol
If you dont ask, the answer is always no.

Honestly, I would love for ME2 to be multiplayer, in the sense that somebody else could control members of my crew (not x2 Sheperds or something.)

I don't understand why someone would have a problem with this if its not required to play. If you don't want multiplayer, then just play single player. You will have the same beloved ME experience that you have always had. Having multiplayer just gives people more options to play to their liking.

Edit: As for any Multiplayer Deathmatch or whatever, I assume that would be completely separate from the story, and thus, once again, not detracting to anyone who simply wants to enjoy a single player experience. More options for more people.

We'll see.. if they do it right MP on Mass Effect might actually be pretty damn cool. I really liked Mass Effect 1 and 2, hopefully they make 3 even better

Regardless of multiplayer, I am soooo psyched for this game. I love the Mass Effect series!

Though I still think I liked the first one a bit more than the 2nd.... hopefully the 3rd is even better than the first!

I liked that they removed a ton of the annoying explore a random planet with nothing on it tasks. That made ME2 a lot better for me. Also the story in ME2 was amazing. Both games were amazing.

Yeah... but the 2nd game was just missing something. Don't really know how to describe it.

And the last mission thing of ME1 where you have to fight your way through the citadel. From the start of the cinematic with the fleet battle, all the way to your fight with Saren. That whole sequence is just perfect! Soooo intense and awesome!

I agree Mass Effect 1 had that little bit of something in it that Mass Effect 2 didn't have. Sure it had lame planet exploration, terrible driving, etc but there was just something else about it.. I played Mass Effect 1 four times.... I only played Mass Effect 2 once. It wasn't a bad game, in fact it was great and I LOVE the Mass Effect series but I couldn't bring myself to play ME2 another time.

Looking forward to Mass Efect 3, multiplayer aside of course. I mean really, who cares about multiplayer in a Bioware game?

Ohhhh and mining. WTF were they thinking? I'd take exploring random planets over the mining mechanic any day.

Yeah, good bye driving around and hello brain numbing planet scanning... personally, I liked at least the action element of the exploration missions in ME1. Planet scanning was the dumbest thing ever. It took zero skill, lots of time, and contained no fun whatsoever - not unless you're an obsessive compulsive personality type who find repetitive tedium cathartic.

Purely from a story standpoint, ME1 gave me more dread and urgency than ME2. I went from knowing jack shit about the world to slowly learning the immensity and vibrancy of life in the galaxy, as well as the enormous and seemingly inevitable demise that approached it. In ME2 I'm a hardened veteran fighting a secret war against the same, virtually untouched foe that all the amazing life I'm trying to protect (or exploit) chooses to deny. I learn more of the galaxy through many disconnected escapades with my teammates, and I also learn more of my enemy's means and methods, but nothing of that most wondered element: their reasons.

My actions in ME2 also felt less consequential in the grand scheme than those in ME1. In ME1, I essentially deny a carefully planned and orchestrated warp-in all-in attempt, parrying it just before one million carriers arrive. In ME2 I skirmish with some scouting zerglings and deny a lurker egg while it's morphing.

ME2's gameplay was more fun and varied, though, and its crew members were more fleshed out by ample back stories and missions.

On ME3, I have faith that Bioware will make it so fun that it'll be hard to put down, multiplayer or no. They probably also have it in them to produce a satisfying story, so I'm really hoping the culmination of this series won't disappoint in this respect.

I kind of disagree on the characters in ME2. I sorta felt they included too many to really get to know any of them.

And then as an Adept, I take Garrus and Grunt with me on like 99% of missions. The others just don't compare in a lot of ways. (Though my love for Zaeed makes me bring him along on occasional as well. )

'Hey guys, guess what?! We have added a brand new 4 on 4 multiplayer feature for exciting games online with all your friends!!! So you can play a game just like Black Ops!!!! And don't worry, we haven't put too much time into the singleplayer mode!! We all know you want us to provide a nice, quick and easy singleplayer so we can put all of our resources into making a handful of fairly well balanced and medium sized maps!!!! And what's EVEN better, we took out all the things in the previous games that required though!!!! And replaced them with KILL STREAKS!!!! B-bam!!!!

Oh Yeah, and instead of adding the extra 10 hours of singleplayer we were thinking about, we did exactly what we knew you all wanted and ADDED A ZOMBIE VERSION of the multiplayer!!! HAHAHAHA :D how great is THAT!!!!!'

I might not be able to sleep tonight.

OMG You are like reading my mind. This may be true. Look at some other shooters - its like exctly that happend.

P.S. ME1 ME2 are awesome

I didnt really like the stripped down rpg elements of ME2 so I probably wont get 3 and do not care much whether there is multiplayer or not. If they keep the game with as much RPG as ME2 I may play it but I will borrow it from a friend most likely at that point.

In what way were the "rpg elements" of ME2 stripped down when compared to the first game?

How about the poor plot? They could have done so much with the cipher and trying to stop Reapers from finding a way out of dark space/finding pieces of weapon against reapers. Instead they added way too many characters (as great as many of them were) and the main plot did little to advance the overall story. Actually I bet if you took out ME2 you'd find pretty good continuity between the main plot of ME1 and ME3. ME1 had a solid, if simple, story. ME2 was just a series of vignettes.

lol... this is so true... The whole of ME2 was simply an elaborate introduction to the characters you added to your team. I mean it was very well done but there was basically nothing added to the very solid storyline of ME. If ME3 doesn't advance the plot and give an appropriate ending to the series, I will have lost a LOOOOOT of faith in bioware (DA:O is pretty damn mediocre..).

Well, the teaser trailer to ME3 shows reapers landing on Earth and just downright f***ing shit up left and right, so I seriously doubt plot advancement will be a problem.

ME2 focused too much on character development and really needed more of a story along the story lines. An RPG needs both linear storyline and branching, ME2 was mostly branching.

Yeah this was a big issue. I liked all the extra quests you could do with the other crewmembers but that was where the majority of the content was in the game
