I would say they picked up a quality Center in Gortat, and flexibility in the next season, but losing J-Rich sucks for them. Maybe they think Childress will return to his pre-Greek levels and develop along those lines? This season I don't exactly count them out but Carter is #awful.

I didn't think Phoenix was going to be relevant anyway and this trade reaffirms that.

I like the carter+gortat+pietrus for turky+richardson+clark trade and how they got rid of Carter, who clearly wasn't working out in Orlando but I'm not sure if I like the Arenas for Lewis trade. They're both ridiculously overpaid (Lewis has the 2nd highest salary besides for kobe at $20 mil a year... and arenas isn't too far from that) but I rather have Lewis. At least he's more predictable than Arenas and has flexibility to play PF/SF. Arenas seems a little redundant at this point at SG (since they got richardson/turky) and backup pg (turky can handle the ball fine when nelson is on the bench).

So you trade in some decent defenders and 2 strong 1 on 1 defenders and bench players that killed opposing teams for...more scoring. So Orlando now has no bench, or Arenas/Nelson if you want to call it that. They match up even worse now vs Boston which had their number anyway, and instead of being a problem at the forward position they are now conventional. So the chances of them beating Chicago just dropped. A lot. Orlando's big reason for winning was their defense. Loading up on more offense and a crusty Hedo isn't going to get them much better than a 4-seed in the East. What a terrible move. Blake Griffin is sooo good. He'll definitely be a perennial all star. Also, that ref was super hyped when he made that.

actually, its starting to look like most teams want to dump players and balance salaries in preparation for the lockout, which seems more inevitable by the day. even at home, rumors are that raptors will buy out peja stojakovic.

Remember that year when pheonix had joe johnson and they let him walked because they didn't want to pay him? nash, amare and joe johnson would of been a pretty sick combo. And I think turky still has a little bit of game left in him. Turk really excelled in the pick and roll role in orlando with dwight howard a few years ago and in pheonix he wasn't really able to do that since nash is so good and dominates the ball most of the time.

Pretty much what I wanted to say. Also the PnR with Lewis was actually what killed teams before, not Dwight. Hedo is terrible now and even back then Boston obliterated that match up. Even with J-Rich now Orlando I can't see Orlando beating any of the good defensive teams in the East. Ugh just terrible. The worst part about this is the misguided Orlando fans claiming that they can play Hedo at the PF position or off the bench. It's like nobody saw when they tried it in Phoenix and he got absolutely MAULED playing the 4. He could barely get a rebound. Then when they brought him off the bench - and Phoenix had a loaded bench one of the top, if not the top scoring bench in the league - he STILL struggled. And now Orlando has no bench. Why in the world would any fan be excited about seeing Hedo? I'm not even going to get into Arenas. While not as bad as Hedo and actually an upgrade over Lewis he also struggled this year in Washington. The good thing about Arenas though is that he will bring some much needed individual defense to the back court.
