A lot of that is because Chicago's defense is great, their second unit is probably one of the top 3 in the league and Luol Deng started playing up to the level people expected of him. Rose did well but better players have carried worse teams and have not gotten the MVP nod.

Is this a basketball thread, or a Heat thread? I never visited the TL basketball forum before now and ive gone back 7 pages so far, and all everyone is talking about is the Heat..... Who fucking cares about the heat, they are the third best team in the east(at best) they cant beat top teams, they lost to 5 straight over .500 teams before FINALLY beating the Lakers. Im disappointed that the teams that deserve to be getting talked about are being snubbed here. Like the Bulls, I dont know what else they have to do for everyone to say 'Look at this team, this is a championship caliber team', and the key word there is "team". Because the Bulls dont win on the strength of one or two players(I mean yea Derrick Rose is playing at MVP level) they spread the ball around, they are unselfish, and will everyone to get into the game. When the bench plays its like the team doesnt miss a beat, because everyone trusts each other to do their Job well. Coach Thib is clearly the coach of the year, and someone the Bulls need to lock up for a long time. He came in and put in a defensive system that is working wonders, and most importantly, the players RESPECT him, and WANT to please him. Luol Deng, imho the biggest Allstar snub this year, first off how did this team only get ONE represenitive, but somehow the Atlanta Hawks got two?? Deng has averaged nearly 18 points a game well as 6 rebounds and 4 assist. Hes a great defender, can knock down shots from beyond the arc, and finishes extremely well at the basket. Oh and the guy is never off the court, he has a motor that just has one gear....GO(sry for the sheen ref ) Boozer is a terrific post scorer and can take face up jump shots. His front court buddy Noah make this the best 1-2 rebounding team in the NBA and also supplies GREAT low post defense as well as a developing offense. If the Bulls could Find a 2 guard to fill in and give them more Offense then this team will win the NBA championship. I am proud to say that I get the opportunity to watch one of the most exciting teams in the NBA play every game, and ive never once been disappointed. Im not going to go into How good Rose is cuz everyone already knows that, and I wont dissect the bench and tell you what each guy brings to the team but Ill say; Watson, Korver, Brewer, Gibson, and Asik are awesome at what they are supposed to do, and Gibson and Asik are getting better every game they play. So if you want to discuss a great team with a Humble leader and some of the most exciting Basketball and a top 3 defense, then talk about DA BULLS

All of the NBA has only been talking about the Heat; they're probably the best story of the year, regardless of how their season turns out. There's just no more drama anywhere else, especially with Melo to the Knicks.
Although the games right now are interesting, it's all about how teams perform come May/June. The Celtics NEED that first seed to go far in the playoffs, having an easy schedule would help them a lot. I'm pretty disappointed that they lost to the Clippers because it brings the bulls within like one and half games or something; not a lead that they can ride to the end.

Anyone think Kobe looked decidely ordinary trying to guard Wade at the end? And what was with the 30+ foot threes?!
edit: Lakers crying: http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/news/story?id=6204941
MIAMI -- More than an hour after the final buzzer sounded in the Los Angeles Lakers' 94-88 loss to the Miami Heat on Thursday, Kobe Bryant was back on the American Airlines Arena court going through a nearly hour-long shooting routine as three Heat ball boys rebounded shot after shot.
It might have helped him work off the frustration of what he claimed was a missed foul call late in the game.
"[Dwyane] Wade fouled the s--- out of me," Bryant said with his feet dipped in a bucket of ice water after the game. Bryant was referring to the 3-pointer he attempted with 1:06 left and the Lakers down 90-88.
"It was clearly evident," Bryant said. "They missed it. ... He fouled the hell out of me, they just missed it."
More on the Lakers
For more news, notes and analysis of the Lakers, check out the Land O' Lakers blog from the Kamenetzky Brothers. Blog
Wade was credited with a block.
"I couldn't make that, he hit my whole arm," said Bryant, who had made his previous two 3-point attempts at the time, including a long 28-footer to tie the score at 88. "That's why I went so short. ... I should have been shooting three free throws."
Bryant said even Wade assumed he would hear a whistle after the play.
"He was surprised they didn't call a foul," Bryant said. "He came out and said, 'I fouled the s--- out of you!'"
Wade said after the game that he didn't foul Bryant.
Said Lakers coach Phil Jackson: "They didn't see it and they didn't call it. What can you say?"
Ron Artest corralled the errant air ball by Bryant and missed a layup at the rim with Zydrunas Ilgauskas closing on him. Artest's missed shot involved a little more controversy, as the Lakers felt that Ilgauskas should have been called for goaltending.
"I should have made the layup, but he hit my hand, grabbed my arm, hit my head and goaltended too, possibly," Artest said. "But that's an excuse, man. I should have made the layup. That's it."
The officials stopped the game twice in the fourth quarter to review balls that went out of bounds to determine which team should retain possession, but were not able to on the plays involving Bryant and Artest.
Jackson blamed himself for the loss.
"I really took responsibility for screwing up the end of the game because I tried to call a timeout at 2:03 [remaining] and in the process we lost a timeout," Jackson said. "We still had to take a timeout [and after that] there was still a mandatory one, so we only had one 20 [second timeout] left at the end of that thing. So, all those things kind of worked against us in that process."
The Lakers called their final timeout with 46 seconds remaining, trailing 92-88. Bryant turned the ball over on the ensuing possession and L.A. did not score again.
"Poor clock management on our part," Jackson said. "I had no timeouts with 46 seconds left to go. ... It's highly unusual for me. I don't know if it ever happened to me [before]."
Jackson, who is calling this year his "last stand," has coached in the NBA for 20 seasons. Thursday marked his 1,624th regular-season game.
Had a look at the play Kobe mentions and it's hard to tell. No replays. The Ilgauskas play was probably, albeit technically, a goal tend but it definitely wasn't going in.

funny how the heat get a win amidst a 5 game losing streak against the defending champs...

lol Oh Bill Simmons "Our first shot of a somber Pat Riley in the stands. You get the feeling he wakes up in the middle of the night, gets up, makes himself some tea, then thinks about what he should have done instead of spending $109 million on Bosh and $48 million on Mike Miller and Joel Anthony. I should have passed on Bosh and gotten Scola for half the money. I should have passed on Miller and kept Dorell Wright for one-third. I could have given the leftover money to Ray Felton, then kept Beasley, then signed one more rebounder. DAMN IT ALL!!!!!!!"

They Celtics could be 8th position and still make the finals, they have one of the best road teams in the league, if anything its the Lakers, Chicago, and the Heat that need a #1 seed.

funny every person who hates on the conversations about the heat, brings it back to the bulls, appropriate.

I am a bulls fan and love talking about the heat. They are clearly the most interesting team in the league not only because they have the three elite players but because it is interesting to see them work out what the hell is going on.

I have no problem with either team, i welcome the teams to the East to actually challenge Boston, i just find it stupid he goes "lets not talk about Miami, lets talk about Chicago" when all the other chat in this thread is about Chicago, very little gets said about SAS, DAL, BOS, OKC, IND, DEN, POR, ORL, ATL, NYK, PHI, NOH, or MEM, all great teams in the NBA today.
Philly is over .500 and almost equal to the NYK, thats some pretty awesome news, but theres been like 15 posts on how good Igoudala has been this year, and how impressive Doug Collins has been as a coach.

I can't believe that poll...I know it's only 26 votes but come on. Derrick Rose is great, we have established that. He is also playing out of his freaking mind and is a top 3 point guard, as of today. He scores 24 points per game, has a 8:3 assist to turnover ratio, plays hard, is improving on defense and has upped his FT percentage to around 82%.
After all of that, he is still not better than Lebron in a down year. I know it sucks to hear but Derrick Rose shouldn't even a top 3 candidate for MVP. His production this year is similar to that of other superstars like Kobe Bryant, Manu Ginobli, Dwyane Wade and Kevin Durant. But he has not been "MVP" caliber like Lebron James, Dwight Howard and Dirk Nowitzski (when he's been on the floor, he's been the most productive player in basketball.)
The MVP award is sort of a crock anyways but I can't believe anyone can think the Rose is the MVP. When I use my eyes, Lebron is more impressive on the floor. Box scores show that Lebron has had a better year. Advanced statistical analysis shows that Lebron is better. What's going on here? Where is the rationale for this ridiculous notion?

you say all that yet still say hes worse than lebron?
i think you should look at those box stats again

actually all those guys you listed still produce more than Rose. The only one that has really slowed down is Manu.
|
I've done it once but I can do it again.
Derrick Rose has played 62 games and averages 24 points per game on 44.2% shooting. He averages 4 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game with only 3.5 turnovers.
Lebron James has played 63 games and averages 26.2 points per game on 49.6% shooting. He averages 7.6 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game with 3.6 turnovers.
They have practically identical production except Lebron scores more, shoots a better percentage, provides superior defense. These are just "box score" stats, if you want to use advanced statistics, Lebron blows away Rose based upon efficiency.
EDIT for reply to Ace: It's similar, depends which metric you use but it's close enough. Rose shouldn't be in the MVP discussion but he is certainly having an excellent year.

Judging from what Kobe said at the end it seemed like Miami might have gotten away with some missed calls that could of probably went into overtime. Then again these things happen frequently with missed calls i hope the heat gained something from this game like getting bosh more involved.

Kobe thinks he shoulda been shooting 3, iffy. Ilgauskas clearly goal-tended which would have tied the game I think. Really though, the real story is that Miami played perfectly and barely won.

I ninja edited but ya they needed some type of big game from bosh and although they got it from him it still wasn't enough had the refs not miss the calls at the end. But is it just me or has bosh always played well vs lakers? I don't have any stats I just remembered that big dunk bosh had on the lakers earlier in the season lol

The ball on the cylinder rule is pretty dumb so I'm glad they didn't call that goal-tending; the ball was definitely going out so I don't mind that no-call.

:/
Miami definitely didn't play nearly perfectly.

I can't believe that the Clips are going to piss away this game. I don't understand why they can't close T_T

boston lost to phili and the bulls are winning against the hawks right now. bulls are now half a game behind boston.
