Gold sinks are easy to make. However I think they should do something different for items. Make repair for items require components equal to their level for high lvl gear. In order to repair your best items you need to find items of equal value as well as gold. This way top tier items need to be salvaged in order to keep your "best" gear repaired and you either need to farm the items yourself or farm gold to buy it with.
Personally I'm not for such an idea. Diablo for me is about simplicity first and foremost, I even hope they remove arrows and bolts. It's fine to have quivers, but make them infinite I say
EDIT: Even repairing was mostly a nuinance. It served no purpose except to slow down your magic finding or whatever you liked doing.

What Barrin said. Not making gold valuable would be the worst idea. And with D2 and WoW, I'm pretty sure Blizzard has a good idea how to keep gold valuable enough and keep inflation at minimum.
|
well said barrin. i would hate to have d3 fall straight into the worst thing that happened to d2.... aka d2jsp becoming huge
|
No one has to worry about "d3jsp" sites. They would get raped in the ass.
|
d3jsp is not going to happen, mostly because blizzard was talking to make a sort of "auction house" where you could post the items you want to sell, therefore looking for the items you need.

D2jsp has a booming World of Warcraft section, people still want forum gold for use in other games.

It is possible that the WoW section is big but still has a negligible effect on any given server's economy simply because of how many people play WoW.
What I mean is, simply because a game has an auction house does not mean that trades won't be done there, people sell and buy gold which they use in game, it's an alternative to buying it online, they do the same with runescape and I'm sure many other games. I would not be remotely surprised to see d2jsp have the same thing happen with diablo 3 with buying and selling of gold/items on there, of course it won't be a monopoly, but it already isn't completely, lots of trades go on in game.
Oh also I would like to know why you think d2jsp is a bad thing, it is much more efficient than joining 500 trade games to sell a random item or than creating games over and over in game looking for items. It serves as an auction house for diablo 2.

No matter who you are, you cannot honestly think this would be a good thing for the game as a whole. And if they do ladder resets on D3, then websites like d2jsp basically ruin the whole point. Again, there are a bunch of people who are automatically rich right from the beginning. Have you ever played the start of a ladder? Do you know what it's like seeing an Enigma Hammerdin bot joining random nearly full games killing every valuable boss ON THE SECOND DAY OF RESET? It's fucking ridiculous, let me tell you. And no, I'm not complaining about this because I'm a noob (but you're damn right they have a reason to complain about this too). My brother and I have been very skilled high end LEGIT traders in the primitive d2 trading market for a very long time. I'm complaining about it because I am actually good at actually playing the game, and it's lame as shit seeing these people ruin what used to be a good time progressing relatively fast with raw skill on a ladder reset. Anyone who actually plays the game without bots/hacks/cheats (which is too rare nowadays) knows what I'm talking about.
What is the raw skill of diablo2? list them, i want to know. What make you better than millions of other noobs mindlessly spaming keyboard and mouse to kill AI controlled mobs over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over for the past 15 years?

This. Diablo 2 is a game of luck. Either your phat lewt drops or it doesn't.

In pve, there is no skill, in pvp, decision making.

This is true, there is no skill involved in pvm in diablo 2 and very little skill in pvp. I am no longer rich on d2jsp because my account got banned but I don't bitch every ladder reset, I usually go up about 10k fg in the first month of a ladder reset because it's easy to find items and sell them while they're still valuable.
Oh and it's the item sellers with imports that ruin the economy, not d2jsp.

There is a lot of skill in pvp. Why do you think no one wanted to fight Vargas or BaneOfBattler? D2 was really gear dependent and much less skill dependent than a game should be. I really hope they balance it out in D3.
|
I was the first lv.99 in HC on US server, a trading freak and a MF freak(i even had the first Windforce ever, eventhough i traded for it from a friend of mine whom found it off Baal).Good thing there were no d2jsp back then cuz d2jsp sux.
Im fine with sell/buy for RL cash but no no to d2jsp
about the PvP :
D2 PvP was fun and exciting, yea its more gear dependent than skill but you cant help it, its a damn RPG game not FPS.

as Husky would say)< I am super stoked guys :D

do you ever pvp in D2 ? the game require much much more skill in high lv pvp than you think.you dont just spam WW in Barb vs Barb.the only match up i think is stupid was Hammerdin vs Hammerdin
and try HC mode tell me you can just spam the shiet out of your keyboard and mouse w/o dying.

I don't see how anybody can think that. d2jsp is actually an interesting concept. If I quit diablo 2 and started playing WoW for example, I could sell all my diablo 2 stuff for forum gold and purchase gold with it for WoW. Then when I get bored of WoW I can sell everything once again and buy stuff for whatever I'm playing next. d2jsp is standardized currency for all online gaming. I'm not sure I'd like people buying Diablo 3 items with it the day the game is released, but it really isn't the end of the world.
