It's just gonna be a new dungeon with some of Blizzard's trademark terrible storytelling. Hopefully they keep storytelling same like it was in D1. I can live with D3 mechanics with a proper storytelling from D1.

making D4 doesn't make sense to me right now at this point.

RoS came out early 2014, but still blizzard haven't mention another exp until now, and this is disappointment for sure, but... making D4 doesn't make sense to me right now at this point. d3 expansion won't happen anymore. they've removed most of the dev team and put them on other projects

D3 is played to death, most people who played snce RoS cant stand the grinder anymore and are finally over the game. The season do not help anymore, the DLC is maybe the last moment to generate cash out of it. If they for once would not need blizzard development times, but normal 3 year ones, it would make sense to announce a D4 last weekend and get it out next christmas.

So assuming that Blizzard doesn't take Blizzard time... And assuming that development on D4 started immediately after RoS (released in 2014)... And you're still asking why D4 doesn't make sense for Christmas 2017?

Given how much money poe is presumably making (basing this off what they say they spend on each expansion, development team keeps getting bigger) I have serious doubts they'd go for it. Unless they were offered an absurd amount of money.

Am I the only one who doesn't really want a sequel of d1 or d2 in d3 graphics btw? A major part of the reason d3 isn't as spooky as d1 and 2 is the engine imo. It's not easy to circumvent that and I doubt Blizz is gonna rewrite their particle filters and most of their textures.

So does diablo 3, and the fact that they regressed in every aspect of diablo 2 except combat is really sad

No one can convince me that Baal runs are better than grifts+adventure mode. I really hope for a game with d2 core mechanics, but with some endgame features other than grinding one or two bosses. Maybe D4 will be that game.

D3:ROS is on the other end of the spectrum where you can get all the items for an endgame build in under 50 hours of playing. Admittedly has better endgame content, but getting there isn't a challenge at all. D3 Release was probably about as bad as D2 tbh, despite having AH the chances of getting good loot were just astronomical.

D2 had a way better social aspect, as well as charms, runes, jewels, stats, skill trees, pvp, mfing, trading, up to 8 people in a game, it just felt so much better overall. They've been improving D3 over the years but to me it's still a colossal flop, it should've been so much more.

Part of me kinda wishes runewords were still in the game, but since we've moved to the self/group found model, it's probably not going to happen. Also means that MFing/trading is out as well. This does kill the social aspect though, as the only reason to group up is to kill monsters. They kinda have jewels in the form of legendary gems. Not exactly the same, but it's kinda there. PVP is undeniably a disaster due to the scaling in the game. Simply not going to be possible to balance when you're doing anywhere from 3-5 orders of magnitude more dps than you have toughness. I'm kinda ambivalent on the skill tree thing. D3 definitely is much more noob friendly.
