I myself have not figured out which things I'd totally agree with (I have not remembered all the rules of Code/Geass for example, etc., and lots of people online don't remember correctly either). But for now, the way I see it, Lelouch has both Code and Geass. Meaning, he's friggin immortal. How do we know? Lelouch "killed" (debatable, he simply sent him into the world of C or whatever, but you could consider that killing) Charles. Before Charles died, he grabbed Lelouch on the neck. In order to transfer Code, you need to "kill" the Code bearer and there needs to be contact to transfer the code (?). Charles' Code was on his hand, so it should now be on Lelouch's neck (not shown, it only shows/activates when one dies, remember). Also, the show's name is obvious. CODE GEASS: R2. No, R2 does not stand just for rebellion 2, or something. The show's creators were again, ingenious, even with the naming. You know how CC is C2? VV is V2? Well Lelouch Lamperouge, LL, is R2. Remember that L and R are treated the same in Japanese, because they don't have an actual "L" sound. So basically, the name's show itself says: LELOUCH IS IMMORTAL, HE HAS CODE AND GEASS. Doesn't the name sound much more epic now? Now there are parts where I'm unsure about (again, due to Goro Taniguchi's masterful directing skills, in which he leaves multiple parts of the story up to your interpretation). You could say Suzaku has Lelouch's Geass. Remember when Lelouch got stabbed, he was like, you will now bear Zero's name, and you will take the power of the Kings? He could have meant his Geass when he said that. Again I'm not sure, I need to review the show myself. This could make sense however, Lelouch is alive but he loses his Geass so he can't abuse it anymore. For more reasons why Lelouch is alive you can look online. In conclusion, canonically, for the show to make sense, yes Lelouch is dead. But it's not confirmed in Bandai's list that he is a dead character. Now, for the fans that paid attention to the show, they can think to themselves Lelouch is alive because of the many hints. Here's some more reasons why Lelouch is alive. When Suzaku was going to stab Lelouch, he easily easily passed Orange, who SMILED. Why would he smile if he didn't know it was part of Lelouch's plan? You could argue he accepted that Lelouch had to die, but there's a chance he might know that Lelouch would be immortal and hence the smile. Also when he called the troops to take Lelouch's dead body away, he didn't seem sad. If Lelouch didn't tell him he would be immortal, wouldn't he show some sort of sadness? At the end, CC says "the power of the king isolates one forever" or something similar. She later says "but that's not quite right, eh Lelouch?" If you understand the show, she's obviously saying she was wrong. Why is she wrong? Because Lelouch is ALIVE, perhaps isolated but is able to live in peace with CC now. If Lelouch did die, then CC wouldn't be quite right about what she said. If Lelouch is dead, even though he did it for the good of the world and was happy with it, he's still isolated/cursed, cus well, duh he's DEAD. However he disproved CC's conjecture/warning at the beginning of the series when she made her contract with Lelouch, and hence surprises/amuses her. When she says "that's not quite right, eh Lelouch"? She strangely looks behind her. Not up, behind her. People can argue that she's talking to herself because Lelouch is dead, but you can infer that Lelouch is the cart driver, and she was looking towards his general location. Also, why would she say "Eh Lelouch" if she's talking to herself? Also if you realize at this point Lelouch is still alive, the music which follows immediately after fits a lot better. It's bouncy, contemplative, but also happy. Also, when you see CC on the hay cart, you notice a pink paper crane. You can assume this is the same one Nunnally made. Remember her promise with him, and the symbolism of the crane? 1000 will grant your wish. Anyways, why would CC have a pink paper crane like that with her if it wasn't Lelouch's? hmm... There is no word of a 3rd season. Geass gets manga side-storys now and then, but there hasn't been any news about a 3rd anime season to my knowledge.
|
@Spazer you might want to put that part about Lelouch into spoilers.
And no, it doesn't say he's what you said
@shadesofkarma
Also yes there will be a "third" season for Code Geass. But for TL's sake please do not say R3 xD Omg. People who say that just don't understand at all why they named the second season R2 lol.
There will be:
Code Geass: Gaiden. (Gaiden means side story). It takes place between the 2 stories, and is a spinoff but in the same universe.
The other series is called Code Geass: Jet Black Renya (the translation is). It's currently a manga being released at 1 chapter per month about (yea really slow...). This one is canon, and is to be considered a prequel. CC's in it, and someone that "strangely resembles" Lelouch, and a character similar to Suzaku (less obvious, it might just be that CLAMP likes to reuse similar character designs).
Note: Both of these are CONFIRMED to be turned into animes, sometime in the future =D. CG:Gaiden will likely be an OVA or OVA series though. No release dates yet. There's like 5 or something chapters of Jet Black Renya out so far. Also, note that unlike the spinoffs, these are CANON.
@Sentenal It does not say anywhere that (CG Spoiler) + Show Spoiler +Lelouch is dead. Link me where the creator said that. if you can do so then even then he's only dead canonically. Anyone paying attention to the show would see alternative perspective (Lelouch is alive). In the interview people quote to be "proof", the creator simply says Lelouch DIES. PRESENT TENSE. He DIES but obviously he is revived and now immortal (again, if you pay attention to the show it's ultimately clear). People however misinterpret and mistranslate it as Lelouch is dead. So please read the source material first . Also, Lelouch is not in Bandai's official list of deceased characters. Hmm, I wonder why...
And you can call it fanboyism, but again, if you don't see how this could be true, then you just haven't looked deep enough into the show. And if you think we're just imagining things and imagining that the creators were intelligent, that's just Poisoning the Well.
About spoilers... lol the tags really aren't efficient, are they. I guess it's obvious since it's a forum, but I would not come in here to discuss anime because so many things are unspoilered...

And if you think we're just imagining things and imagining that the creators were intelligent, that's just Poisoning the Well. Posted /a/ way back when, probably a translation of something posted on 2chan: + Show Spoiler +—–Congratulations on the completion of “Code Geass”!! It was a shocking final episode; did you have a difficult time writing it, Mr. Okouchi?
Okouchi: “No. The last episode wasn’t difficult at all; in fact, it was the middle parts of R2 that turned out to be rough going. For the final episode, [I'd/we'd] already decided on the ending when writing the script for the first episode of the previous series. Episode 1, Episode 25 (Episode 1 and the final episode of the previous series) and episode 25 of R2 — these episodes did not deviate much from our original plans.”
—–”Some unresolved mysteries still remain.”
Okouchi: “From the very beginning, [I/we] never planned on explaining everything. In fact, if you ask me, I think we might have overdone the explanations. While it’s undeniable that Lelouch’s story has ended with a full stop, the other characters’ stories are still on-going, and it’s not like the world [of Code Geass] itself has come to an end either. [I/we] didn’t want to end it by closing it up for good.”
—–”Still, isn’t it possible that defeating the wise ruler Schneizel, the person who was supposed to have brought order to the world, might lead to some [viewers] interpreting it as a Bad End?”
Okouchi: “That’s true. There are probably a lot of people who think of it as a Bad End, a tragedy, considering the protagonist’s, Lelouch’s end as well. However, Lelouch says in the first episode: “Only those prepared to be shot are allowed to pull the trigger themselves.” If you were to think of that as his pride, then I think his getting shot (killed) in the end was a logical end. Of course, I understand that not all of the viewers will accept this ending. There were people who wanted a happier ending, after all.”
—–”Was there a dispute among the staff members regarding the ending?”
Okouchi: “No. It was decided fairly naturally. During the “Code Geass” script meetings, there are many cases in which there were a number of disputes, but there were barely any when it came to the scripts for (the previous series’s) episode 25 and the final episode. I think everyone felt the same when it came to the end of the character that is Lelouch.”
—–”Why were you so bold as to choose this ending when the viewers might see it as a Bad End?”
Okouchi: “Bold… yes, we were so bold as to chose this ending. Perhaps the show that is “Code Geass” ending up this way was decided the moment Director Taniguchi and I teamed up. I suppose you can call it our sense of aesthetics, or perhaps a part of our psychological makeup.”
Hes dead, get over it. He got ended.
Note: Both of these are CONFIRMED to be turned into animes, sometime in the future. CG:Gaiden will likely be an OVA or OVA series though. No release dates yet. Source?

I can't read japanese. Does that say those Code Geass mangas are going to be made into an anime (which is what I want a source about, I know about Geass Manga).
|
Hes dead, get over it. He got ended.
Again, canonically, but you can still look at it from different perspectives. If you only want to look at it canonically, that's fine.
Now I know Wiki isn't 100% reliable, but remember an interview is an interview and it's not like he was specifically asked to give an official answer as to whether + Show Spoiler +Lelouch is still alive or not. In other interviews, the directors/writers confirmed that: Director Goro Taniguchi states that it's up to the viewers to decide how they want to interpret the ending, but that he himself likes to see it as a happy ending.[7] Writer Ichirō Ōkouchi agrees, saying that while some may regard Lelouch's end as a tragedy, he too likes to think of the ending as a happy one because Lelouch created a better tomorrow for those left behind. There are many theories to support both Lelouch's death and his survival(immortality)however as was intended when the story was originally written the ending is made so the viewer can decide how they would want it to end as both endings have logical support and basis.
So according to those interviews, they are apparently specifically asked about the ending, and give more "official", "canon" answers.
Oh actually I reread the articles about Jet Black Renya more carefully. They don't specifically say that this will be turned into an anime, but simply say that other works Code-Geass-related media will be released "simultaneously". But they probably and hopefully will, I don't enjoy reading manga nearly as much as I do watching anime
You can search up a bunch of english websites with their own translations if you want.

If you guys want to believe that Lulouch is alive, thats fine. Honestly, if that's just your opinion that he is alive, I don't care. What I get bugged about is when people start saying hes alive like its 100% fact. Its like you people think "omg u think he ded? u not intelligent omg look how smart geass is they had an emperor rocket!", and then that bugs me. I think it is pretty clear that Lulouch is dead, but I wouldn't even bother to argue it unless otherwise provoked.

LOGH: The Rewatch + Show Spoiler +Rewatching now. Wow, I completely forgot that Admiral Merkatz was at Astate. Is that Fahrenheit as well? Attenborough is there too on Yang's side. Though thats less of a surprise, since he has pretty much always been there.
Yep, Mittermeyer and Reuenthal weren't at Reinhard's side during the battle, but it still introduces them. I remember they weren't there, but I didn't they were introduced that early either.
Sup Oberstein, I thought you were at Iserlorn. Or I guess they are at Iserlohn, and for some reason Mittermeyer and Reuenthal were just told to sit tight? For some reason I thought they were on Odin. Meh.
Poplan is there. Its pretty amazing how this show introduces characters, and you think they are insignificant at the time, and then its not till later on that you realize just who they are.
Also, episode 1 looks so bad compared to the later episodes haha...
|
I'm glad that they still give the names of everyone in every ep, except Reinhard and his staff, and Yang. I remember in ep one I was like "OMG it's been five minutes but they're already introduced like twenty characters. There's no way I can remember this!"
