A lot of them often are. @ZNF : How does it translate into writing? Looking at Japanese writings, some of the characters look similar to Chinese... How does a name like Sakura translate into characters? 劉藝森 = Liu yi sen (my Chinese name). As you can see, three syllables. I think most Chinese names are 3 syllables (I could be wrong, I'm no expert) Sa - ku - ra = 3 characters? But what about the family name? Sa - ku - ra, Matou. that name = 5 characters? Sakura is one character though: 桜 Moto Sakura = 間桐桜 Kanji in Japanese are not phonetic like they are in Chinese, which is why you see a lot of Kanji with Kana notation to clarify the pronunciation. 小鳥遊 literally means "birds playing" but actually pronounced Takanashi, which means "No (nashi) eagle (taka)", Japanese Kanji is filled with weird bullshit like that I was just like "who in the world writes takanashi like that" so I google and get
高梨, this is the most common way to write Takanashi means 高(high) 梨(pear). 高階, another way to write means 高(high) 階(floor of the building, or stairs) 小鳥遊, I assume this became famous in recent Japanese anime, games and light novels indicate 小鳥 (small birds) 遊(play). This is a kind of word association game. The situation where small birds can play freely is a situation free of hawks which are their predator. Hawks are Taka in Japanese. The absence of something is Nashi in Japanese. Thus, this rare family name is read as Takanashi. Yet again turns out that it's just really hard to figure out names yourself

小鳥遊 is a long existing Japanese name, but it is extremely rare. Estimates is that there are more fake Takanashi written as 小鳥遊 than real people.

I think it's best to agree to disagree at this point seeing as we aren't going to see eye to eye on this one. I've agreed to disagree long ago. You need to stop trying to rationalize things and realize that what you like may be incomprehensible and live with that realization without trying to finger your way around it to make it seem like it's something it isn't. I've said it once I'll say it again: it's okay to like what you like, just don't try to support it with bad logic. lol stop being so combative over something so silly. You're free to disagree with me as much as you like, won't change anything.

You're not reading anything if you think I'm trying to change your mind.

How dare characters be stupid. If only she was as smart as Lelouch or Light, who are objectively the best anime characters.

It's basically a nod to the fact that the Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest surviving heroic epics, the fact that many mythical figures and legends draw inspiration from older ones (like King Arthur and Excalibur being very similar to the older legend of Sigurd and Gram from the Nibelungenlied), and that ancient Mesopotamia is considered the cradle of western civilization, and Babylon the greatest city from that region and time.
So essentially in FSN it's saying that all (Western) legends are derived from something from the time and place where Gilgamesh was the undisputed ruler of everything, so if you have a cool sword, he has the original.

He wasn't in the greatest anime of all time though. Can't be too good.

And I think I misspoke, and it's actually the Sword in the Stone that's the Gram analogue, not Excalibur. + Show Spoiler +I can't remember if he actually has an Excalibur original or not. I'm thinking not, since it's one of the few times he busts out Ea.

Is Rider cool in UBW? Because if I recall correctly, she was the lamest servant in FSN :D. And the comparison with the Rider from Zero didn't improve that later on.
