Yes I am with you. Samwell is surely the worst and most awkward character. And the way he killed that white walker made me cringe. The transition of him from quivering wreck when asked to take part in blunted sword practice and then to being a charging mofo who wrecks 4000 year old monsters with one hit was far too sudden...although I guess the books might have had a more understandable progression. He is still irritating as hell though, regardless.
I also agree that Bran's storyline in general is extremely boring so far and frustrating that it gets so much screen time, and to be honest I'd throw Jon Snow in there too, mainly because he is so monosyllabic and repetitive, he's just a boring character to watch. The show is made for me, as it pretty much was from the start, by Tyrion/Tywin, Dany and the desire to see Joffrey buggered by a pitchfork. Most of the other storylines I haven't mentioned are fairly compelling but are not the centrepieces, at least yet. Keeping a quiet tab on Stannis.

I agree with the point on Sam, although it's probably because the directors intend to take Sam's character further in future seasons. With Jon Snow, I like the character but I am unconvinced by the acting skills of the actor who portrays him. He conveys little emotion and has very little screen presence, despite being such a 'heroic' character. By way of contrast, the actor who plays Catelyn Stark (and Ned Stark!) is amazing although that might have more to do with the scenes they're in than anything else.
Edit: When it's first mentioned that Jon is still loyal to the Nights Watch, that came entirely as a surprise to me. It could be because i'm just not paying attention, but I think it's really just the case that the actor who portrays him does a poor job of showing any emotion at all. For example, the actor had a chance to portray the tension between love and loyalty in the cave with Ygritte, and that would have served as a good counterpoint to Robb Stark. Even in ordinary conversation with the warg about which castles are manned on the wall, I had a hard time discerning what Jon Snow was thinking/feeling. I think the actor was just trying to remember his lines.
The other Stark family members are played by great actors, especially the one who plays Arya (for example, her scene where she talks to Beric about her father "not 6 times just once") and to a lesser extent, Sansa. Bran's (and therefore Rickon's as well) storyline is boring, although unlike Jon Snow, I don't think its a reflection on the actor's ability but rather on how the story's been written.

Jesus, how many times does this have to be said, everything that happens in this series is develops into something much bigger in the future, if you don't like the storyline leading up to it, don't watch this kind of show.

None of what you just said has any bearing on what I just said. Regardless of whether Samwell is going to grow into becoming the mightiest king who ever lived, with magic powers, riding a 10 headed griffon and wielding a 10 foot sword with 100 virgins pledging their chastity to his loins (which I wouldn't be surprised about because I have a faint feeling that GRRM is projecting himself onto Sam); and regardless of the fact that Sam may in the future become an INTENSELY compelling character, for the past three seasons watching his scenes has been boring as hell and cringeworthy.
The same goes for Jon and Bran. I have no doubt that at least one of them is going to become VERY important, and Bran clearly is already very important. That doesn't change the fact that their scenes have been very boring and the least interesting of all the characters' scenes.
And just because I don't like Jon/Bran/Sam's stories doesn't mean they aren't counterbalanced by Dany/ Tyrion/Tywin. Don't worry - if all this show were about was Jon/Bran/Sam then I would quit GoT like a bad habit.

I would say this is not exactly true. With GoT the journey is more important than the destination imo.

I like Sam, and I like Sam's storyline so far. He's a nice guy at heart who just isn't made to live in a world like that. He'd make a fine - if not especially noteworthy - nobleman, and now he's got to figure out how to survive in the real (fictional) world out there. No other storyline comes even close to having these aspects, as most other favored characters are, in one way or another, totally kick-ass. Not having every sympathetic character being a total ass kicker is a good thing.
Bran's story is kind of meh for me. His story barely gets any screen time, and if it does it shows them travelling, and that's about it. The last episode finally showed something more interesting happening. We'll see how that develops.

Agreed on pretty much everything, yes I'm aware that GoT is all about the buildup and the journey - that's all well and good but when every scene involving Sam barring the stab the icewalker is just reinforcing him being an incompetent but goodnatured chump I don't see why this warrants screentime as anything but comic relief. (Even the icewalker scene reinforces this - leaving the only thing of value he possesses on the ground.. really?)

I would say the path in which the journey occurs is full of sadistic killers preparing ambushes along the way judging from the last episode lol.

I don't get what's up with the hate towards Sam. I think he's actually acted out very well... He entered the Watch as a bumbling coward, naive and childish. Sure, his story is kind of boring, but that's due to him not overacting when his scenes are understated in character (*cough* Daenerys *cough*). He's shown huge growth, and is downright adorable at times. He's by far a better actor than Theon or Robb.
As for Theon, am I the only one who gets a sadistic pleasure in watching him suffer every time (despite him not having plausible reactions to prolonged pain - voice never hoarse, no bloodshot eyes, etc.)? I'll give his actor one positive - his performance is so grating that I feel he's earned this.

I can't say that I'm a big fan of Sam, but at least he is less annoying than LotR-Sam. I don't think it was an out of place character jump that he nervously got lucky and killed the Other.

Isn't Sam basically a 100%-stereotype nerd that was born in the wrong time/universe....? Who really likes nerds like him in the "real world"? Probably not many.

I think the point is that he's one of the few "weak" characters, and as such has a lot of potential for growth. This is pretty rare in the GoT cast where almost everyone is already "made" and can't/won't improve/change
