If it's not this, that strongly implies that every book from now on will be divided in two (or at least, the next three will). This means a ton more GoT. 12 seasons total, easily the most for any HBO show if I'm not mistaken.
Actually, just last week an HBO official was quoted that they more or less aim for seven seasons. While 12 would be awesome sauce, I don't think that it is financially feasible these days to keep up a show (especially of this production value) for this long, viewer attention spans being what they are today. Seven or maybe eight is probably a good number. Even total blockbusters like Lost or the Sopranos didn't make it past six seasons.
Purely technical information on book content patterns, please don't torch me: + Show Spoiler +There is not enough left of book 3 to warrant a complete season, and books 4 and 5 happen simultaneously. That would make it possible to combine books 4 and 5 into the second half of season 4 and season 5, leaving one season each for the remaining two unreleased books. God (or GRRM) knows how much will happen in those though.

Laaaaaame. Totally agree with Kadaver, two episodes! I demand two! I am eager for the plot advancement. It is getting all so interesting. And Melisandre is hawt.

They did release one for memorial day weekend last year, and apparently it had a big enough drop in viewer numbers to cause the decision to have a small hiatus this season.

I'm more worried about the hiatus after episode 10

I'd probably actually prefer it this way, but I did have reasons for thinking it would be 8 seasons that I quoted from the other poster but they were apparently minor spoilers . I'll PM whoever wants to discuss (haven't read the books and don't know any remotely substantial spoilers).

I'll just put that out there, the former slave girl Daenerys got with the Unsullied (Missandei?) is quite cute.

im curious if we see little finger or the spider again in this season - littlefinger is on the way to harrowhall, right? that being held by bolton, a man already eager to switch sides...

People missed the Black Water, also big drop at Ep.7, but up again at Ep.8
Edit: Aahhh.. Mother's day @ Ep. 7

Also, I'm rewatching it from the beginning now...the tension between the Starks and the Lannisters makes infinitely more sense after Jaime revealed the truth.
In the scene where Ned comes to Kings Landing for the first time and talks with Jaime...jaime says "when I watched the Mad King die...I remember him laughing as your father burned...it felt like justice".
Then Ned scolds him for oath breaking obviously. But as Jaime said that line, I feel like he was seeking Ned's approval then he's clearly hurt after Ned rejects this request cause he's so honorable.
Makes me feel like Jaime was right in not telling him the truth.

There's a Robert scene too where Robert asks Jaime what the Mad King said when Jaime stabbed him in the back. Jaime replied something of the nature of "He said the same thing he's been saying all day, burn them all." Then there was this just shocked and blank face on King Roberts face for a moment, and scene cut.

Unbelievable that he killed that 12 y/o boy (or whatever his age was). But if it were orders his only choices were either do it or die. Still horrible but I think he struggles with it a bit too. I might even believe Sandor didn't enjoy killing the boy. Regardless that is one heavy burden to carry. I don't know if Sandor particularly cares about killing Mycah. He probably doesn't feel proud or anything, but a scenario like what occurred is entirely possible even within a modern construct ("That 12 year old is an assassin who almost killed me" - plenty of child soldiers out there).
The Hound's choice was pretty much either to believe that the person who he guarded was lying for no apparent reason or that it was entirely possible that a young boy tried to kill or seriously injure Joffrey. Which is pretty believable, both in that it wouldn't be hard for a young boy to kill the wimpy Joffrey (hell Arya could have but chose not to way back) and also in that it's possible that Joffrey provoked a person his age into trying to kill him just by being himself (the Hound warns Tyrion way back at the slapping scene that Joffrey will remember it, the Hound pretty clearly knows Joffrey's mentality pretty well).

Yeah, focus on grabbing the dagger when for all he knows there could be ten more of those out there, coming for them.
You don't think very much do you?

I'm gonna start from reading from book three, without reading the first two books.
Is there any major deviations between the first two books and the TV series I should know about before starting to read?

Better to not ask in this thread here. We're notoriously hard on spoilers of any kind. Might have better luck asking in the book thread. Better safe than sorry.
In other news, NO EPISODE TONIGHT?! :'( I was looking forward to it until... well, just now. Damn. At least I have Arrested Development again.
