Is there any major deviations between the first two books and the TV series I should know about before starting to read?
Better to not ask in this thread here. We're notoriously hard on spoilers of any kind. Might have better luck asking in the book thread. Better safe than sorry.
In other news, NO EPISODE TONIGHT?! :'( I was looking forward to it until... well, just now. Damn. At least I have Arrested Development again.
I've only read the first book yet and I would recommend starting there. It is very nice

Yeah, focus on grabbing the dagger when for all he knows there could be ten more of those out there, coming for them.
You don't think very much do you?
Yeah, run past the 1-hit-kill-dagger when for all he knows there could be ten more of those out there, coming for them.

Seriously. There is no defending Samwel. He is a dumb character and what he did was in character, although pretty damn dumb even for Sams standards.
apart from him being one of the smartest characters in the show, you are blaming him for not going back to pick up a spear head in a moment of terror. a spear head which for all he knows is just sharp. he has literally no way of knowing that the dagger killed the white walker. its possible that the white walker was being magically created and stabbing it broke the spell, its possible he would have killed it with any sword by stabbing it roughly where the heart is (remember only wights are said to be killed by fire only). He has no way of knowing how he did what he did. just that he did it, and needs to leave.
Well I just downloaded and even watched first 3 minutes of ep 8 and wondered why do they remind me only old stuff. Is this day like oposite of christmas? No Game of Thrones with no reason, no good.

Yesterday was Memorial day in USA. Ratings dipped a lot on this day last year.

As the fluffy terror lord pointed out, you will not get an answer in this thread. The ultimate reference to all deviations from the books is this page on a Wiki of Ice and Fire:
In other GoT news, not sure if this was mentioned, but its rumored one of the leading ladies has told the shows producers she wishes to not appear nude again. It's been dished by Oona Chaplin (TIL she's the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin) from hearsay on the set. Emilia Clark is my guess. Don't really blame her or whoever it may be...but still. I'm sure the actresses were fully aware of what they were getting into. Oona doesn't mind, so that leaves her out of the question. I don't know why nudity needs to be shunned upon.
When they show few titties people scream Bloody Murder... When they show fake animals getting killed or injured people scream Bloody Murder... When they show Bloody Murder people are quiet... go figure..

Oh come on, they knew what to expect, didn't they? I hope it's someone minor who got naked only once or twice, like Osha or Brienne. It would suck if it was Daenerys, Margaery or Melisandre, not only because they're mighty fine, but also because using sex as a tool is part of their characters.
The nudity in the show kinda has been exaggerated, so I think it's a good thing that one of the actresses is putting her foot down. Just because you've agreed to do a nude scene once doesn't mean your body now belongs to the writers, you know.
But for the love of god, please don't let be the actress playing Margaery. The scene's with her are my favourites, for apparent reasons.
That's strange, as much as people talk about it I don't think the show has excessive nudity at all, and even so it is spread out between several characters. I would imagine the actress in question probably wasn't comfortable with nude scenes to begin with.

My guess is Ros. She said that, then the producers made Joffrey happen to her in return xD
Since we have already seen Talissa and Danny and Melissandre this season, which are the main females that we'd seen naked in previous seasons as well, and they don't seem to have any problem with it this season either.

Doubt it's Carice van Houten as she appears naked in numerous films.
