Jamie is my second favorite character in the show, with Tyrion, as no surprise to anyone, taking first. He simply doesn't give a fuck about anything except what he wants. Yeah, he's not a good person, but he's not strictly a bad guy either. No one in the show is (Except Joffrey).
I didn't get why they didn't have more wildfire barrels. That warehouse the old alchemist showed Tyrion was full of that shit. That small boat wouldn't hold enough of it to completely deplete the reserves. I expected them to hurl the barrels with catapults toward the fleet and soldiers, but was disappointed to see that didn't happen.
If it wasn't for Tyrion and Tywin, the rest of the episodes so far would have been unwatchable for me. I hope this episode means things will pick up the pace now and we'll watch quality episodes.
Remember i think bronns qoute when he saw the wildfire. people manning the catapults get shot at. panic and you have barrels of wildfire going off inside the city doing the job Stannis didnt. The very reason they used a fireship is because this way there was no risk to the city while the result was pretty much the same
Also, you have to see to them (people of the middle ages) wildfire is basically some form of magic. Nobody really knows how potent this shit it. Only the pyromancers know just enough about it to make it, to everyone else it's just dangerous sorcery that might blow yourself up just as likely as the enemy. That is why they would use it on the river, where it's easy and safe to deploy. I mean you can see the WOAH when half the river is exploding on everyone's faces. I am sure at that point they were rather relieved they didn't try this stuff for the fighting at the shores or the walls.

In that case i don't think that GOT is for you
You do realize, slinging barrels of flammable liquid around next to your own fire archers could end up really bad right? Catapults can malfunction. Barrels can leak or break before they reach their target. Sending a fire barge out and pouring it across the water's surface is infinitely safer than launching it from your walls. These aren't napalm rockets we're talking about here.
In the real medieval ages there were such thing as naphtha throwers, but they did have mishaps and they were usually used on the open field. Using them in your own castle could lead to burning down the place you're trying to save...
Also, I think the small boat was symbolic more than anything. I'm pretty sure they had spread barrels of wildfire all across the water long before Stannis' fleet arrived.

I have to echo CursedRich. Tyrion and Tywin are the only characters I actually sympathise with and really enjoy watching. Some of the storylines not involving them are class, but the characters themselves do not appeal to me. They are either a) too stupid, b) too deviant, or c) not believable.
Honourable mention should I guess go to Bronn and the hound but they wouldn't be able to make the show 'good' in the absence of Tyrion or Tywin. If either of them dies then there better be a new character coming to take the reigns. Because I seriously can't stand half of the characters there. I enjoy the things that happen to them but can't stand them. Dany is the worst, only reason I don't fast forward through her is the dragons and the cool scenery/ change of pace in that area.
What?? How are Arya, Sansa, Rob, and Jon not believable? Or Theon? Or Littlefinger or Varys? There are plenty of cool characters in this show.
after I totally fall in love with season 1 (watched it 4 times) I couldn`t wait for S2 to begin. When it started i was like ... "hmm, this feels different" ... and it was. Season 2 has so much more content and the viewer is forced to watch very attentively. If you miss 30 seconds, you miss a lot. Episode 4 was a turning point: The "meh"-feeling disapeared and I was amazed by the depth (of characters and story), the settings, the shots, the costumes, the dialogues ... the whole thing. After watching Episode 9 I realised that the season is almost over again and soon I have to wait again. BUT before the post-GoT depression hits me, there is one more show to enjoy and I sure will do that. And even after the finale, there is time to rewatch it all. ^__________^

He was sworn to die protecting the king.
He stood by the Mad King's side as women and children were rounded up in the night and burnt alive. He stood by his side when Ned Stark's father, brother and sister were all burned alive in the throne room.
But when Robert's Rebellion is on the doorstep of King's Landing, and Tywin's army has sacked King's Landing and is just outside the throne room, he stabs him in the back.
To quote Ned Stark "You served only while it was safe."
People will never fully trust Jamie. Any oath or vow he makes can't fully be trusted.
But at the same time you have to understand his position. He was only 17 when he stabbed the Mad King; he was young and confused. He was most definitely torn, facing a horrible dilemma. After all, the man he was sworn to protect turned into a murderous maniac. The honourable thing to do would have been to have died defending the Mad King, or perhaps forsake his oath and flee King's Landing as soon as Aeries went Mad and joined the rebellion.

Tyrion is not the Kings Hand, he was just covering for Tywin as Tywin was busy fighting Rob. If Tywin stays in Kings Landing he will be the Kings Hand, but if he goes back to fight Rob then Tyrion should remain in Tywins stead, if he is alive though.

Various aspects of Arya's character scream 'artificial', she feels like the most 'forced' character, although having said that Danarys is definitely giving her a run for her money in that department. Littlefinger and Varys are unbelievable because they know too much information, and Martin gives an unrealistic and exaggerated amount of credit to the powers of spy networks to collect information.
I don't consider any of the other characters mentioned not believable but they fall into my other aspects. Stupid = Rob, Jon, Theon, Sansa. I should say that I don't really mean stupid as in half-wit, I just mean that they make irritatingly un-thought-out decisions. I know they are supposed to be young, but I don't want to watch young people make stupid choices on shows, it's just not the sort of thing I watch TV for. I dislike young people mostly, I don't usually watch shows where the majority of the characters are teenagers. Of course that's a personal preference so you are entitled to have whatever opinion you have.
By the way aside from reasons I have given there, I don't consider any of the characters you just mentioned to be 'cool'. Rob was the only one I was holding out for, but I just kind of lost interest when he started gawking at the medicine noblewoman. He might redeem himself though.
I should say that I do sympathise with Arya and I like her story more than most of the others, but I just don't like the forced aspects of her character.

Haha, personally I would have done what Jaime did!

Because he broke his vows. The dude in the very first episode ran away from supernatural zombies and got beheaded by Ned Stark for that.
Also: Stannis was held back by his own men. He saw all the reinforcements and still wanted nothing more than to stab some bitches.

He didn't get beheaded for that. He got beheaded for leaving his post and running south. If he would of just ran back to the wall and reported in, he would still be a alive.

A lannister backstabs the king, and now the lannister are ruling the kingdoms. I know Jamie didn't do it for that reason, but that's how it is view.

It's not far from the truth. He did it because he didn't want to fight his own people, and...I could be wrong, but I think Cersei was already promised to Robert Baratheon at that point.
Really though, I think it's become clear that he's a psychopathic dick who'll do whatever is best for himself, no matter the cost. Not sure how anyone can "like" him or say that he's honorable.

It's a great situation and really one of my favorite character aspects of the series. Either way he's doing something horrible. If the Lannister's were about to barge in he would either be a king slayer or a kin slayer.
King asks about Aerys Targaryen, the mad king, what did he say right before he died? “The same thing he’d been saying for hours. ‘Burn them all’” Jaime says.

Best characters:
Tyrion Tywin Arya
In no particular order
Yah his line was insanely bad ass. He just fking walks in with his crew at his back and tells his tramp of a daughter "The battle is over. We have won." SUCH a BAMF.
Anyone else think the Lord of Light is Westerosi version of Satan? From the evil-vibe priestess to the demon baby to the devil being called "the angel of light" before he fell, seems like a good match.
