Or you can be Burning AM and keep the Dark Seer at 4 cs 10 minutes while you get 60 in addition to 50 denies (just a game I watched yesterday haha )

Well it's hard for any hero to be solo against a darkseer, but if your support can zone him til you get 3 and tranquil or RoH (preferably both), you should be able to deny/last hit fairly easily. If you got enough regen, you can also go on him, he can't manfight you if you are 3.

Does spectre get assist when she haunts assuming the entire team is wiped out? Or must desolate proc or spectre has to reality in and hit them before assist is counted?
Anyway, are there any good spectre vods from any tourneys? I know alliance aka nth likes to play them but thats about it.. Only recently started to catch up with the whole scene but theres too many tourneys for me to track properly..

Dignitas played Spectre a few times a couple months ago as well, I don't remember exactly which games they were though.

Random thought, I can't think of anyone off the top of my head.
Is there any heroes where Euls or Atos would be "core" or could conceivably be?

Other than that no, they are generally outclassed by Force Staff and are only situational pickups.

She gets assists from haunt illusions attacking someone, but getting an assist doesn't actually mean anything. "Assist" gold/XP is distributed by being in the vicinity of the kill, not just by having an assist. You could be in range of the kill and not contributed to it and still get XP/gold. Likewise if you are far from the kill, even if you got an assist from doing damage, you wont get gold or XP.

Eul's can be a core item on any support, due to the fact that it's a lockdown for less than 3k. Supports that excel with it range from Ancient Apparition to Rhasta. Eul's allow for pickoffs as well, where you can initiate whilst giving your team a few seconds to position themselves. You can also use it defensively (albeit not as well as in HoN) to defend yourself and focus the opponents damage elsewhere. It's a cheap item with Amazing utility - but as absolute core I'd argue that anything with a target stun (or AA's first spell) does well with it.

What defines a "support" Hero? Are all the heroes that cant carry support? I know that leshrac, lion, lina etc are supports. But for instance, are nyx, slark, clockwerk, Batrider, windrunner, tusk, undying etc also supports? Or are they classified differently?

They are simply more suited to act as support heroes than others. Things that allow a hero to fulfil a support role include being item and level independent. This means that they have a strong impact on the game without taking farm or XP away from the team carries. This typically means they have strong spells which scale well early game but fall off as the game goes late.

All about semantics.. some people will say that a hero whose abilities are good enough to be a contribution even with little farm item/levelwise can be supports (ie Lina, lion..) because they will be useful while spending most money (which they won't be getting much of) on Wards, Smokes etc. Some will say that heroes that provide good lane control in order to ensure your carry is able to farm are supports (ie long ranged heroes with good attack animation). Some will say that heroes who are well suited to carry standard Support items (ie items that benefit the whole team - Mek, Pipe, FS) while being effective are supports.. bonus points if they can farm those reasonably quick without hurting the carry's farm, ie junglers (Chen, Enigma..). And all of those people would be right. It is hard to say what exactly defines a role in Dota, but that doesn't mean it's unclear. However I believe it won't really become clear to you just reading people's explanations here - the understanding will eventually come as you play the game and start to grasp the concept of supporting itself. Nyx can definitely work as a support, Slark not so much (no real disable, is a rightclicker, thus he needs farm), CW can work as a support (altho preferably on a solo lane for quick levels), Batrider can be played support-y, however he works much better when given levels and items, WR is similar to CW, Tusk has very good abilities, however his reliance on rightclick makes him a not-so-good support. Undying is a perfect example of support, great teamfighting abilities, very strong in trilanes, doesn't really need stats or rightclick boosting items so he can carry the support stuff such as Mek.

The way I learned it is that heroes that tend to not need items for their spells to be powerful but generally drop off in the late game with or without items comparatively are supports, and heroes that have relatively weak spells in the early game but skyrocket in the late game with items and need the protection of said early powerful supports are carry's.
But now that I've played a bit it's not so cut and dry, like you say with shit like Nyx, Clockwerk, Windrunner, Undying, etc.
It's not black and white, basically, from what I understand. There are no "support" heroes by in large, there is a "support" role that many heroes can fit, and can not fit depending on how you build them, however.

Good support heroes are basically defined by their ability to impact the game with minimal items and levels. If a hero needs farm to contrubite then they generally make a poor support. Lion, for example, is considered a good support because you don't really need items to make use of his skill set. Batrider would be considered a mediocre support because you generally need a blink dagger and force staff to make the most out of the hero.
Heroes aren't necessarily bound to a certain role though. Naga, Alchemist and Sven, for example, can all viably be played as lane supports but also work as carries. Try not to pigeon hole heroes into specific roles.

Lots of support heroes still scale well with items and levels, and can thus viably be given higher farming priority. Nyx is a good example. In general the true carries are heroes whose skill sets synergize with right click damage. They don't fall off because you can still upgrade your right click damage after level 16, but at that point ability dependent heroes cap due to all your abilities being maxed.

Does heart regen no longer work with Wisp's tether? I was tethered to someone in a game not too long ago and he wasn't receiving heart regen at all.

Does dota ever get better? Back when I had 50 wins, people said it would after I learned the game more. 500 wins later, I'm still wondering. I just want a normal game where no one gets reported for text abuse.
Seriously, though, the only games I win are because someone on the other team is feeding or abandons (or I'm playing carry necrolyte). Every other game I lose. Playing with same-level friends doesn't help much either, we just get rolled by an actual team with more inter-team experience than us. I tried out the IXDL thing, but everyone got called autistic too many times for me to want to try again...
+ Show Spoiler +I wouldn't have posted, but radiance rush gyro and MoM pl pushed me over the edge.

Were you at full health? Wisp tether regen should only work if it is affecting wisp himself.
