what happened to ld?
is dota that much of a dead game now?
i havent played or followed dota in years and obviously havent been on this part of tl in ages too but i didnt expect this little activity.
not even a question on sqsa for 4 months?

dota isnt a dead game by any means, but forums themselves, especially with western audiences, have died and fallen off, that and in comparison to the east, dota has also lost a lot of its hold in the west

so if you speak english and live in the west dota will seem a lot more dead than it is

I think it's a combination of old users getting older and moving away and few people moving towards LD because reddit is far more popular.

I got the impression that ld never lifted off in the same way tl did and posts were quite irregular to begin with. So despite some early efforts to produce some content the tl members that played dota initially moved over and then due to the lack of discussions the site slowly died off.

Also a lot of the old dota players stopped actively playing over time and I don't think the site really drew a lot of new players compared to reddit which probably has a lower average age. A lot of tl members joined tl because they were interested in sc:bw or during the sc2:WoL launch, which are 22/10 year old games respectively and either knew dota from the wc3 era or switched after WoL's hype died off.

Would you guys say it's better to pick several heroes regardless of the meta/patch and spam them until I master them, or follow the meta and try to find heores that work for me and are strong at the given moment? Which heroes are never bad to know how to play?

@PoulsenB depends on how you play and learn the fastest really. I am more theory-heavy and playing AR a ton has taught me a lot about hero interactions and gave me a lot of flexibility. As a result with a few exceptions I can pretty much play every hero on an average level on my mmr, so even if my standards get banned I'm fine. On the other hand there are a lot of muscle memory things I didn't learn and often struggle in the lane where things are strongly based on your experiences in these matchups.

On the flipside if you specialize too much you'll run into bans and drop a bit once your hero gets nerfed and you learn less to think outside the box, but likely will hit a higher peak short term. So it imo really depends on where your natural strengths lie in terms of micro/macro and intuition/analysis.

Heroes that imo are good to know by position: Ursa/tb for early/lategame, ember/lesh for catch/push and scaling, timber/centaur (2.5/3.5), willow/tusk (3.5/4.5), lion/warlock (catch/teamfight).

Not really a 'simple' question per say, but why does dire generally take bottom t2 before top t2?

I get that taking bottom t1 gives you jungle access and tends to make a part of the enemy jungle your carry's farming region, so taking t2 seems natural to get the shrine and secure that area.

But on the other hand it plays away from Rosh and radiant triangle is arguably the most important area in the game because it provides a lot of farm and access to Rosh, if you control it as dire you are basically guaranteed to get Aegis, which still is the most important objective in the game (after ancient) atm. So taking that away from Radiant would more quickly reduce their income and secure map control.

Is it just because radiant triangle is so strong defensively, so securing bottom gives an easier farming spot for Dire?

I would say it's because it's most natural.
As dire your carry farm rotation is in your top jungle then triangle, so usually your team will be playing in radiant's jungle. Its then more natural to just take the mid t1 and the bot t2 than to go after the top t2.

I'm having a problem with my microphone during a game when it is just set to open mic. I click to activate the team mic, deactivate, reactivate or any permutation of actions. While the dashboard is up, if I speak I can see the threshold illuminating. However, the moment I close the settings dashboard, it does not work in-game. It only works if I select a push-to-talk key. While I can get used to push-to-talk, I'm quite used to using open mic in other games.

If I go to demo a hero, I can see the chat bubble over my hero, indicating that the microphone does work.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Found a couple guides, would suggest that you try those fixes, and if it doesn't work you need to keep looking for a fix on the net.
Also open mic is pretty bad in dota2, need to use it only to share critical information (heroes missing/big spell used), kinda like in cs
