Right now I'm thinking more about builds for leveling then at the endgame, and am thinking about a build like this:
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#acdVTi!Xeb!baaZZa
It's a "resource hog" build that uses Night Stalker and Preparation/Punishment, with skills that fire lots of smaller hits for more possible crits. It doesn't use a skill above level 30, so good for going into Nightmare. I'll be playing with a group so I'm not as worried about traps.
Looks decent on paper at least, though I'm not sure about what to use as the left click.

There's some potentially funny stuff I've come up with... like near perma invisibilty and some bowless builds.

Ballistics is probably a waste in that build, the only rockets are from the sentry.
It was either that, Grenadier or Hot Pursuit. And you're probably right seeing as the turret damage seems to be pretty low as is...

I think actually you could use Sharpshooter instead. Despite it's name, it has nothing to do with a bow.
I hope you guys don't mind if I take some discretion if the build doesn't seem very viable. If you could refine that build Bento a little I'll add it in but Ballistics really does seem out of place.
Edit: Currently editing the list to add all these builds.

I think you will be using way too much discipline with Vault and Punishment. I recommend taking out Vault, replace with Multi-Shot/Fire at Will. For your left click, you are going to need something that slows them down if you don't use vault so Entangling shot is perfect. At level 47, get the Justice is Served rune and you will never run out of hatred.

Just my opinion, take it how you will. Feel free to comment on why you wouldn't like it.

That makes a lot of sense about vault and using entangling shot. You removed Night Stalker though, which removes the goal of using skills that fire multiple hits giving more chances for crits to give discipline, which then feeds back into Prep. It depends on how good Night Stalker is in practice.
And like I said, this build is for when I'll be playing in a group with both a barb and a Monk so snares may not be needed as much at that point, and just kind of an idea that will change as I gain levels and experience.

This is the build i plan on using in Hell/Inferno: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#bcXdVR!ceY!aabbbZ
With discipline regen being 1/s, vault + tumble will alow me to be very mobile at really low disc cost.
Both Elemental Arrow and Rapid Fire seem to be very efficient hatred spenders. I'm taking frost arrow rune for EA for the slow; for RF I have 2 choices: withering fire which has great synergy with constant vaulting every few seconds, but web shot also seems great.
Entangling shot gives a good and spammable slow for the times I run out of hatred.
I also take Smoke Screen since my disc spending will be low and it gives a great escape (when vault is not enough) and the rune gives me a way to convert excess disc in hatred for more damage.
Prep + battle scars gives me a heal which i would otherwise lack, as well as allow multiple back to back smoke screens. Could be changed for something like companion or turret.
Passives are easy to guess: archery is a solid damage increase, CtW will always work with slows on possibly every shot and steady aim should again have great uptime thanks to slows+ constant vaulting.
Oh and with slows being applied so frequently the reduction in cc duration on inferno should not be that noticeable. The low level requirements mean i will have plenty of time to practice the build before i actually get to Hell or Inferno.

so, what exactly is the point of multishot when i can have double chakrams hitting enemies for 4*100% weapon damage for 10 hatred.

for half the hatred cost, mind. chakrams are insanely spammable and the range is also very good.

in the end i rolled a DH and am playing hardcore, lvl 14 right now. that bola shot owns and beside that i use the rapid fire atm... must say DH is freaking mobile (that rolling thing is basically enough, plus 80% slow owns), i don't see myself dying unless they start donig much more dmg or i get stunned/walled unluckily ^^

I've got a tip for you Demon Hunters! Press shift and you will stand still while you fire. You can use this to boost your hatred before you enter another room or kite enemies that are kind of far. Arrows go off screen quite a ways so it helps :D
|
I'm thinking about this build for ridiculous kiting/survivability. Primary/Secondary can be any Hatred generator + Hatred sink, but I like Impale+Impact for bigger mobs and I feel like Hungering Arrow+Scatter Shot is a good balance of decent single target DPS with multiple hits for proccing discipline on crits. The general idea is infinite Vaults with the Discipline passives and Tumble, plus Preparation as an oh shit button for both HP and Discipline. It's working out very well so far but I'm not high enough level to tell if it will be good in harder difficulties.

Its hard to hit anything with chakrams

not really, with dual chakrams you can throw them out, run back just a bit, throw another one out and those 4 will cover the whole path. Plus double damage in the middle of the path thanks to the little cirlces they fly. Thats still better than multishot runed for better hatred consumption by a lot.
|
So since the servers are down, How is everyone liking the demon hunter? Are there any abilities that you thought seemed good on the build calculator and are horrible for your playstyle, and vice versa?
I like the dual crossbows and I feel like they hinder a lot of the abilities but on the other hand, they allow you to generate hatred faster.

This is the build I'm using right now at level 30: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#bRdZjV!ace!aaZa.Z
Impale for single target dps, elemental arrow for AOE. Working great so far.
Haven't tried all of the spells yet though (cluster, rain, and bola). The pet seems really crappy and the turret didn't seem much better which makes me sad =(
|
I'm in this weird phase at level 20. I'm using caltrops, hungering arrow and rapid fire alot. I have smokescreen to get away and impale to blow all my hatred if I'm getting chased. I can't wait to get elemental arrow and the overpenetration rune for impale.
