do you guys think it is possible to run a lightning sentry dh for hardcore?
basically i'm looking at running dazzling arrows for the stun effect for hardcore and i know multishot has a lightning rune and maybe trying out ball lightning for a 3rd spender.
or would it just be better for me to run physical and take the dazzling arrow and full broadside?

Sheet DPS is inflated in 1 handed weapons due to the higher attack speed.

I think Neo is saying you'd want a 2-Hander because, shot for shot, you're doing more damage.

Terranasaur got it. Sentries look at your base damage, not your sheet DPS. Look at 1xxx-2xxx damage, not the big DPS number.

1H xbow have 1.40 Attacks per Second while 2H xbows are 1.10 ApS. ApS inflates your sheet DPS and it's not what you're looking for.

Can someone give me the lowdown on physical vs fire marauder build? Loaded for bear vs shooting stars, arsenal vs full broadside, spitfire turret vs the rest?

Seems like the biggest advantage for physical is the extra dps from pets, but is that really significant? On the flip side, there is no physical spike trap in case I get that spike trap xbow.

I tried out both builds. I ended up liking the Fire build more when I had Cindercoat drop for me.

Comparitively, Companions really dont have much of an impact on T5 or T6, and thats pretty much what the TnT physical build is meant for.

One thing I found the Physical build to trump the Fire build over is that they can clear aoe mobs a bit quicker. The Shooting Stars rune for Cluster Arrow is very good against elite packs. Other than that, everything else in the Physical build seems to be just slightly less valued than the Fire build.

But this is just my 2 cents, I only have 70~ hours on my DH. Someone with more experience with DHs can give you more input.

Seems like the patch is going to buff fire more than physical. Arsenal got a bigger buff than shooting stars and spitfire turret got buffed as well. I was using impaling bolt for physical but that won't be physical any longer. Sadly, my marauder chest piece is the only one that rolled somewhat decently and I still have no rrog.

I used to run pure fire CA, and did around 23M per CA. I switched out magefist and boots for marauder pieces to get the M6 bonus, now my CA's do around 19M, but besides me, my 2 fire sentries are also shooting out CA, fire multishot. so technically even though i lose 20% fire dmg from magefist, my dps probably tripled, and thats without rucksack

Should try to gamble for a Cindercoat if you have 6-piece Mara. It really just makes the set incredibly broken.

You can semi-spam CA from your DH, and lay down 3 sentries (4-5, if you have Rucksack)

My CAs hit for about 19mill crits, without active buffs. With Companion buff they go up to about 23-24mill. With Harrison they hit 35mill. And with Harrison+Companion buff they hit for an easy 45mill.

My crit hit is pretty low, around 280? Fire damage is 78, sentry is 23-, CA is 28~.

if you are moving when you drop the sentry the damage buff is snapshotted

I switched to the multishot with fire rune instead of cluster arrow after the preparation nerf. Although the base damage is lower it has a much much larger AOE for mobs and if you pick the passive that doubles rocket damage the damage vs elites from the homing rockets is pretty good as well.

I've been lazy about leveling a monk to gamble Cindercoat with. Is it less rare than a Tasker and Theo? That's what I've been trying to gamble for.

edit: Also, if you have Cindercoat, shouldn't you be using Trail of Cinders instead of Tumble?

Cindercoat is more common than T&T; even with cloaks in the mix I gambled one succesfully, and I think anecdotally most people's experiences match up with the numbers. At this point, what I would do is gamble the slot where I can get a Marauder upgrade as well.

Tumble is a 25% cost reduction to Vault if you always do Vaults in sets of two; Trail of Cinders takes your Cindercoat reduction, so yeah. I don't know how the order of operations works for applying your other cost reduction but the two are so close there's no real substantive reason to not use Trail of Cinders for the tiny bonus damage.
