Not only that, he just got old really. He still had decent spark in him when he played for the Magic, he just obviously wasn't what he used to be.

He isn't the player he used to be, but he can still contribute pretty well.. Just kinda sad he decided to stick in pheonix. I think he could help a big team like the Lakers or the Heat pretty well.. 2 teams that really need to fix their bench.
My question to you all is, what do you think about the former stars of this league that are either lost because of injuries, or attitude, like : Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson (love this guy).

McGrady and Iverson are past it. They both lost the explosiveness that made them so good. Still good basketballers, but physically they can't do what they once could.
|
Fans enjoy the play of players.
Haters enjoy the downfall of players.
The first are acceptable, the latter are not.
EDIT: where in the world is Allen Iverson?
|
allen iverson was one of my favorites for sure. so sad how fast his career deteriorated though, largely due to his own personal issues and stubbornness.
although he was quite the shot jacker, the fact that he was so short and fast and still outplayed and broke people's ankles makes him sick as hell
|
He was drafted in 1996. I don't think I'd say his career deteriorated any faster than anyone else. It wasn't his personal issues or his stubbornness. He just got old and he couldn't carry his game into his mid-30s.

It's also really really tough for a 5'11" guy to compete when he gets into his 30's and father time robs some of his quicks.
Steve Nash has been so good for so long because of his unique skill-set that doesn't depend that much on physical attributes.

A tad off topic, but the first and second All-Defensive teams were announced today.. and the defensive player of the year, Tyson Chandler, was voted to the second-team... how does that work?!
First-team: LeBron James, Serge Ibaka, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tony Allen
Second-team: Luol Deng, Kevin Garnett, Tyson Chandler, Rajon Rondo, Kobe Bryant

Because Dwight is still a better defensive player, people just got tired of voting for the same person. It's Defensive Team, so you need 2 guards, 2 forwards and a center. You can't have like 5 centers as first team.

If the "criteria" for getting into the All-Defensive teams are the same as All-NBA teams then # of games will make a difference for some people voting.. and I'm guessing it was pretty much the same people voting for All-Defensive as the DPOY award..
..and if the fact that D12 is on avg. a better def. player than Chandler ergo makes the first-team, shouldn't KG had that first-team PF spot locked in a long time ago?

Oh wait, so the all defensive team is voted based on coaches and the media votes for DPOY. So that's probably the reason for the difference.

Wuuut, isn't DPOY voted by coaches? How did I not know that?! :<
|
All Defense team and DPOY awards are both trash. It's been known for a long time now that some coaches don't actually vote on it but let some random in the org fill it out while they sign it.
The fact that Kobe once again even sniffed the team when he hasn't been good enough to be on it for the last 6 years is a testament to how bad it is.
|
ye Kobe in the 2nd team is terrible and Ibaka ahead of KG is also really baaad
|
Pretty much. The East once again had the majority of the top defensive teams in the league with Philly being #1 and Iggy doesn't even get a nod.
KG not winning DPOY (he's been it for like 5 straight years but w/e) and now not getting the spot over Ibaka is madness.

So basically its a popularity contest. IMO Rajon Rondo is a much better defender then CP3, and even as a huge Kobe fan, I dont think he deserves that spot on the second team.

With the new CBA in place and stuff like making All-NBA, All-Star and Rookie teams effecting players' salaries this shit needs to stop.

I finally watched the last 3 Pacers-Heat games. Game 5 was a total domination, but it is striking how much the refereeing changed games 3 and 4. It is not per se bad reffing, it is just differing styles changed the flow of the games. Wade and James draw contact nearly every play and on nearly half the plays there is a legitimate Charge/Block/Nocall judgment call. If the refs tend even slightly towards calling blocking fouls the Heat become almost impossible to stop. No only do the FTs stack up, but the foul trouble on the Pacers bigs dramatically changes the game.

At a glance, I feel like the first team is fine, and the second team would be if Kobe was replaced with Iguodala. Personally, I think Ibaka and Paul are there because they lead the league in their respective defensive stats, i.e. BLKs and STLs. It's not an accurate measure of defensive ability in my opinion, but it makes sense that the league would feature the league leaders in those stats for this kind of thing since it doesn't officially track any other defensive statistics.
Even as a Lakers fan, I find it mind-boggling that Kobe is on either team this season. I thought this one would be the one where they finally left him off of it, but I guess not. Even more egregious because they left off Iguodala, who is a ridiculously good defender.
