Thanks for the input :3 Blues have a small problem where the keyboard doesn't register two rapid keypresses due to the nature of the blue switch. In order for the key to register once then register again, you need to let the key itself return past the point of actuation. The actuation point of a blue cherry switch is approximately 2mm, bottoming out is 4mm. Therefore if you want to double tap quickly, you need to push down 2mm, release it, then push down on the key again. However if you push the key down 4mm, release it to 2mm, and push it back down to 4mm, it will only register as one keystroke instead of two. Kind of complicated, but hope you can make sense out of this.

All key switches need to be up past the point of actuation, not just the blues. What keyboard do you have?

While this is all indeed true, you can rest assured that the issue is easily remedied with just a couple day's of playing, and within a week you'll probably not even notice the issue. Plenty of people (including me) play on blue switches and are not deterred by the issue, so this shouldn't be a dealbreaker for anybody.

I have no issues with double tapping, just trying to give Buddhist a heads up on the general problem of blues and double tapping. I myself have a cherry brown tenkeyless Filco. Amazing board. No issues here for me. Very true, I believe I posted that earlier in this thread or in another of the many mech keyboard threads we have on the Tech Support forum. It took me a week or so to adjust to these switches, but now that I'm used to it I am never, ever going back to a rubber dome keyboard. I tried typing on one earlier today; it was a horrible, horrible experience.

That's just it, tenkeyless. I personally find myself using numpad on my standard old rubber dome keyboard a lot (Logitech K120) and I'm not willing to give it up, but again. I think between those two keyboards it's really down to personal preference.

I've been wanting to get a mechanical keyboard for a year now, but couldn't really bring myself to spend more than a $100 (though I'm sure it's worth it). Anyone have experience with steelseries shipping within the US? I'm sure it'll take forever, but I can wait.

I would use a HP membrane keyboard for playing starcraft before i used one of them. I would however reccmend a cherry brown or blue switch mechanical keyboard if it has a standard layout with straight sides and front close to the keys

Tenkeyless doesn't bother me much since I rarely use that side of the keyboard unless it's using the calculator (too lazy), entering a password (which I've learned to do without already), buying weapons in counterstrike (never play anymore), random use of - + / * for programming (never use anymore) or in a game where I actually need them (forgot if that's ever happened). So yes, I want a Leopold. Or a Filco. Or an equivalent. All I am certain is that I can never use a membrane keyboard for an extended period. Typed up a contest on a laptop keyboard and cried at how hard it was. But that may be more of the laptop's fault. Feeling membrane boards are terrible now.

I'm getting a lot of mixed feedback on the sound of cherry blacks. My WoW pro-gamer friend tells me his steel series 7g is "very loud and bad manner to use when someone is sleeping in the room". Everyone else, basically, has said that cherry blacks are very quiet compared to blues. If you bottom out cherry blacks, blues, and browns, will there be much sound difference? or is the sound difference only when you barely actuate (don't bottom out)? Also, will I miss out on the tactile feel of browns if I go with blacks? Or does that not really come in to the picture when playing SC2, and basically only matters when typing?

He said it was his first mechanical keyboard, so you're probably right. Do you think I'll miss out on the tactile feel from browns/blues if I go with blacks while playing SC2?

You are awesome, been looking at mechanical keyboards for a long time but never saw any by steelseries until now, I picked up the 6gv2 when I saw it had media controls on it also.

Yeah, I wouldn't suspect that double tapping would be a problem, considering that I already have to let my keys return to resting position on my rubber dome keyboard between taps. Every mechanical keyboard is going to be louder than a standard rubber dome or membrane keyboard. If you bottom out any of the keys, they're going to be pretty loud. Blues are going to be the loudest of them all as they have a high-pitched "click" when you push down on the key. As far as tactile feel goes, that's personal preference. I myself love having the bump there for typing and applications outside of SC2. That plus the lower actuation force makes having cherry browns such a joy for me. A lot of people didn't have issues when playing SC2 with cherry blacks, but some hated the force it took to try and type with them. Unless you have man hands (like iNcontrol, those are more like bear hands) it's going to be a little more difficult to type with blacks than it would be with blues or browns. Hope this helps!

Is it impossible to get a Filco Majestouch tenkeyless with brown switches now? Doesn't seem to be available anywhere.
