Blue has that double tap problem that will likely affect me as I'm used to flat keyboards. The double tap issue that people talk about isn't actually worse than any rubber dome / membrane keyboard. You just have to let the key reset slightly before pressing it again, like with any other key (except cherry black). Also, it's only 1mm distance anyway. It's actually worse than every other switch design due to the moving plastic piece that provides the click sound is fully compressed up against the key stem on the down stroke and on the up stroke is being pulled against the switch contacts.
What?

Are red switches considered new? Also, what do they mean by when they mention tactile and non tactile. I don't really mind about the sound it makes but people stated that blue has the biggest resistance. Are reds better than brown or blue?
|
Tactile means there is a bump in the middle of the press. Black switches and red switches are smooth all the way down. Reds require less pressure than black. Reds are extremely rare, but not new.
|
Reds are becoming popular again for some reason. Filco just started to sell them. not too sure who else has red switches.

I know how they work. What I don't know is what you're trying to say with "being pulled against the switch contacts".
I'm using a keyboard with blues and I have no idea what the people talking about double tapping issues do with their keyboards.

thanks for the answers, I'm leaning toward to buy the leopold red switches then with logitech g9x

Can someone put a sticky somewhere that states that there is no "better" in any switch types, it's all preference...

Thousands of posts about this stuff all over TL. The bottom line is that you will prefer different stuff. I am typing to you right now on a Cherry MX Blue switch keyboard, and I also competitively play many FPS / RTS games. Let me assure you that there is no such thing as "double tapping". That is just a myth created by people who don't know the difference between Brown and Blue. The only issue I can tell you of is that you cannot be typing on Blue's while you are tired. Meaning, if you depress a key, lets say the "A" key, you have to re-release it almost fully, otherwise your key will scroll repeat multiple times. However, this is evident with every single keyboard in the world. Every single one. The only advantage I can possibly say is that Black's have linear resistance, which has no tactility for accuracy, however it makes the scroll issue virtually impossible, since there is no tactile bump to possibly interrupt natural recoil of the key.
Type, game, and be comfortable with what you love. I think it's silly that people jump on Brown's because Fruitdealer used them. Go in a store and type on every type of switchboard before buying something. I would seriously not consider buying a mechanical keyboard online without testing it in person first. Personally, I love the click-clack sound that my keyboard makes. Blue's are my life.

Or better yet, you will likely be happy and adjust to ANY mechanical keyboard, regardless of if you've ever tried it. Just don't keep researching them after the fact or you might be tempted to try a different switch type =)

the only one you would be possible to try are Black Widows which has blue switches. I know best buy and Fry's carries them.
not sure what other mechanical keyboards are actually in stock in other stores.

On the downstroke the white piece, which actuates the switch, is at the top part of the keystem. on the upstroke it's at the bottom of the keystem.

please look at the pictures and do your research. there is a difference between the release point of the blues and that of the browns and the example you give is exactly this difference. Nonclicky keyboards do not exhibit this behavior, and while it isnt significant, it does matter to some people.

actually ncix have the 7g, I purchased one last year along with the xai mouse, works great. It actually depends on what kind of switches you prefer when it comes down to mechanical, usually for gaming you are looking at black switches, koreans also uses filco keyboards. Samsung DT is where it's at if you're going for a rubber dome one

Noppoo Choc Mini
This is probably the best keyboard for Starcraft IMO. Blue switches of course. Even has the option to set the caps lock key to L-Ctrl with the switch lock key.
