so much he did achieve in both sports and in his time as a personality (vietnam war, charisma, freed hostages during embassy crisis in Iran 1980) 2nd Pele (most american and canadiens don't know him, Ali is a legend and his name is all around the world). Jordan would come to a 3rd but very far away from Pele, along with Pete Sampras and even Gary Kasparov too. Schumacher will become a legend when he retires, but right now he's not very famous in America Ruth is not known at all neither in eurupe nor asia... nobody cares about baseball there, same goes for Maradona but for America. Beckham is just a pop star, he'll dissapear in some years, and all the other guys you've named are just local sportheroes.

![]() Perhaps not right now, but later we'll know truly how players like Pele and Beckham really stack up to Ali's ever-lasting fame. As I said I don't watch much football, but my friend who came here from Persia played for team canada under 18, so he's pretty into what goes on and I do get to see the odd game on his huge fucking tv :O

I tell you what... Find someone that has never heard of Ali. You don't want it to be an American (because you are so envious of our greatness), but the most famous athlete surely is Ali. And yes, he was the most famous in Africa and China too. ![]()

Practically the world was watching that fight. Ali back in the 70s was HUGE. He is a household name and every single athlete in the world has heard of him. Beckam is someone relatively new yet I would give you the benefit of the doubt because he is becoming more and more popular. Especially if everyone knows him in Asia, lots of people there.
