Yeah, Violet was a really sour note in the whole series. Pretty much the only bad game. As a Code S player, with the map choice, and after seeing Keen just get totally sniped, he should have been way better than he showed. If Violet wins that, then MVP is in great position to win with GuineaPig/DRG.You also can't discount how lucky Slayers got with Pig rolling Zerg. Ganzi's best match-up by far was TvZ, and if anything else got rolled, he might have gotten taken out. Slayers is truly a magical team. Bold point 1: SlayerS would probably have a single shot against DongRaeGu with probably MvP guys picking the map instead of the ability to throw 2 terrans consecutively into DongRaeGu and picking a map that is perfect for MMA's drop centric style if viOlet had won.
Bold point 2: I think SlayerS just counted on that 33% of probability because protoss could have quite easier time against Terran on crossfire.

That's why GSTL will always be more entertaining than GSL, GSL will always look more mechanical, pre-planned, it is a lot about how you prepare pre-game and a bad decision there can destroy your entire match (Nestea v Inca, I doubt Inca is really that bad overall, he just got unlucky with pre game preparation, so did MMA vs Huk).
MMA and DRG will get there, eventually, but they do apparently need more training/preparation. It is 4-4 in the finals of the GSTL. One win would get you 5mil KRW more than the other team. All the hopes of your team rests on you. On one side you have a zerg who's 5-0 in the GSTL (4-0 vs your race). And on the other you have a Terran who was last season's MVP, has the best record in GSTL, and always comes through for his team. How do you not feel nervous if your both of those players? Yes the GSTL is a lot more fun for the players, but when it comes down to that sort of situation, it's pretty much like a finals of an individual competition... pretty much like how it was last season with MMA vs MVP. Not exactly, is it? It's a "for fun" tournament and the prizes show it. The most pressure is probably on the coach for choosing right map/player. This makes it closer to friendlies in soccer where you get to see some awesome personal plays; I assume it's because you can/afford to use higher risk/reward scenarios plus the chance of one of your builds being perfectly countered is lower. And the lack of preparation time also makes it a bit volatile compared to what seems like precision calculated GSL games. GSTL is all for a great show, GSL is for the money/reputation. Another example would be like the all star games in NBA. Yes, there's emotion but I never felt like they had anything to lose if they did lose or the same powerful preference for one player or another to win. Seriously, you're comparing the GSTL to the NBA All-Stars? How come I don't see nukes, BC, motherships, carriers?
And if it's a for fun tournament you wouldn't have a 15million won prize pool (nearly 14k USD). That's more than a lot of individual tournaments. Think about what a team could do with 9.2k USD for winning.
EDIT: In fact the very reason the GSL are now expanding the Team League is because teams are an integral part of the Korean SC2 pro-scene and teams take it very seriously.
You want to know what's for fun? The stupid Marineking and MC "Sign of Pride" matches vs fOu and MVP.

NO. That was not Flash/Jaedong 2.0, stop these stupid comparisons. 2.0 implies improved or better, which is obviously false.
Instead, they're more like Flash/Jaedong for Macintosh; a little worse than their original Windows counterparts.

Also, GSTL needs a much bigger prize pool. The runner-up of GSL gets more than the whole team even by losing 0-4. Come on Intel, G.skill and whoever else! :D

A team can do pretty much nothing with 9.2k USD, really, they wouldn't even manage to survive on just that. It's probably a lot less than the monthly budget for a Korean team that doesn't pay salaries and it's for sure lower than a European team's budget since most of them do pay salaries. GSTL is expanded because people watch it and it's fun and a way to show off up and coming talent.
If it's not lack of pressure and volatility due to 0 time to prepare and "random" players then why is GSTL so much more entertaining than GSL in your opinion?

I say there is tons of pressure.
The money is nice, but it's more about being in the spotlight and team pride. If your team wins, more sponsors will want to sponsor you. If your team sucks, sponsors will not want to sponsor you. It's also the only time when lots of players who aren't in a GSL can actually feel like they're contributing.
If you don't think these guys care, look at most of the losers after they get beat. Look at MarineKing; he got beat in the ace match against Dong and then basically was crying, not typing gg for three minutes while DRG just destroyed his buildings.
Did you see how crazy Slayers went when MMA won? It's important to them.

No offense, but you clearly don't understand what it's like to play as part of a team. I assure you those players weren't out there just to have fun. If anything it's MORE pressure than an individual league, since you're carrying the weight of all your teammates along with you.
EDIT: If money is the only factor then the Code A is a "fun" tournament as well since the payout isn't that big.

Right on with your prediction mate, and MMA and DRG were both amazing. Best TvZ in the GSL I have ever seen IMO.

Of course they care, not like they're made out of stone, like you said it's all about team pride. And lack of pressure was kind of stupid wording from my part. I just see it as much more relaxed atmosphere compared to GSL which allows players to play more open, riskier, trying to perform multitasking tricks which they probably wouldn't do in GSL. This end in more fun for the spectators when it works, and some epic failures when it doesn't (which also tend to be quite great to watch).

If it's not lack of pressure and volatility due to 0 time to prepare and "random" players then why is GSTL so much more entertaining than GSL in your opinion? I do admit that there's less pressure in a regular GSTL game than in a GSL. But if you're a team's captain and ace, and the whole weight of your team stands on your shoulders in the final game, the pressure is just as much as a regular individual tournament final. There's a lot of pride on the line as well and teams want to be the very best.
If your argument were true, we would have seen better games from Game 1-8, where nerves were less of a factor. But game 9 was by far the best game overall and both players played almost flawlessly till MMA started out-multitasking DRG. Also SlayerS would've known that if it were to come to an ace match it would have been MMA vs DRG and would have practiced for it, so there would've been some element of preparation.
Which is even more strange considering MMA's so used to this pressure, but yet he's still in Code A.

What all 9 games were needed again at the finals? How surprise, NOT.
|
this MMA guy... clutch ACE so often.

MMA in the 3 GSTL's so far: 11-2 record
GSTL1: Team down 0-3, MMA won 3 straight before finally falling in game 7. Only ace match he's lost.
GSTL2: Beat MC in ace match. Beat 3 ST players (including July and Squirtle) before falling to Bomber (with Ryung and Alicia left, both their best matchup). Beat MVP in epic game 9.
GSTL3: Beat Guimiho to stay alive, then sC in ace match. Beat DRG in another epic game 9.
When sent out as the last player on his team, MMA is 8-1. The only time he wasn't the last player sent, he went 3-1 (winning the first 3).
Ridiculous.
On a side note, why wasn't Alicia playing today? Is Frozen really better?
