There is also a lot of "non-play by play" in football commentatries. Of course - when there's action everyone screams and does play by play, but that's the same for SC2. Artosis as well as TB scream But during the downtime (no action) what do we have left? Of course we can fill it with play by play though the commentator has to be really good to make that exciting (like TB). Or for SC2 analysis. And in football (considering normal league matches)? Ball-winning ability of each player, other statistics (# of corners, fouls), missing players (injured, suspended), the matches of last weeks, league ranking, the coming matches, the trainers, tranfers, international matches, transfer rumors, fan choreographies, the relationship of a player to his national team (will he be considered, was he thrown out, ...), possible substitutes, other news related to all 22+ players (+substitutes) like scandals, other interesting matches of the league like coming derbys. And you have tactic-analysis (one-to-one defense, pressing, 4-5-1, double six (?)) too. Of course you can do similiar stuff in SC2 (like recent matches & tournament results) but I dont really know a commentator who does this stuff. I think that's partially because it's a lot of research and I doubt that it'll be appreciated by most of the community ("It's no analysis!"). So I understand that they're reluctant to spend that much time. And you only have 2 players to talk about which is far less material (yes you can talk a bit about their teams). I also have the feeling that the SC2 commentators think they need to talk nonstop. During football commentaries there is sometimes silence for 20sec+ when nothing is happening. So it's not like TB does "football-style" commentary. His commentary is of course different to that of Artosis but still different compared to football casts. It's just the TB style. Also what you expect from a commentary is depending from what country you're from. Each country has a "different" commentating style - look at Spanish/Arabic commentators. They scream very much - for me as a German it's even too much. I like the tone of German/English/French commentators more. As an example: + Show Spoiler + Spanish a bit biased: No spanish team involved: So depending on where we're from (apart from individual preferences) we expect different things from our SC2 commentators. Bleh - might be all a bit offtopic - but still

Also: Any plans of you replacing D'Apollo for the big european events? It made me sad, that I chose to abandon day[9] in favor of TB, just because his casts were more entertaining during dreamhack. day[9] could also help with the analysis and the map awareness (which is the only thing that I can criticize). For example in the Cast of Sjow vs underdark on Xel'Naga, you totally missed 5 hellions annihilating the toss probe line when he pushed out. I just noticed on the minimap. You then attributed the massive worker lead of Sjow to his earlier expansion and better macro - still not mentioning the hellions. Apart from that - hell, I'd rather have TotalBiscuit than Tastosis.

I feel a need to reply to this part. Football commentators are usually payed full time to do only that, cast football matches. They normally also work for big TV houses and I am 100% sure they got assistants to dig up all this info for them. I would also guess these assistants prepare the sheets with this info for them. So that part is different then SC2. But I follow a fair bit of Premier League and their commentators are more similar to TB then other casters although they are not as loud. Also they have two people and the other is usually the analyst. Personally I think TB would benefit from having a cocaster analyst in the range of Artosis or Day9 but if there can be only one (:D) I would always choose TB over one of those two. Also removing the "I forget my name often" Tasteless and putting TB there would make GSL 2x better.

But that's the info I get from football matches. As I said - it might be too much research required for SC2 casters.

Well apparently, because they said that you would come back to cast after announcing that you are done casting starcraft 2. Once again they know more about the starcraft 2 world then you do :D

To be fair, they did preface that segment saying that there were multiple stories about what actually happened and they didn't know for sure if it was true. To be fair to that, they probably shouldn't have said anything, when there are multiple stories, while not knowing if any of it was true.

The tweet he's referring to went something along the lines of "I'll be cutting back on SC2 content to concentrate on what the majority of my fanbase is interested in". Apparently in SOTG-land, that translates to "I am quitting SC2 for good". In Idra land, that qualifies as a "whine", which indicates to me Idra's level of discourse is something along the lines of the WoW General Forums. This is no surprise, we've seen him post, that's exactly what his level of discourse is on the internet. He doesn't know what whining actually means. In the land the rest of us live in, ie. reality, that means hey, I'm being more selective with the tournaments I choose to cast, lord knows I get enough offers as it is and restricting the days on which I choose to cast because it's been compromising my other content, which is far more widely viewed anyway, in favour of what is basically a hobby that I love doing as opposed to my bread and butter.
