Welcome to another edition of “Shit they ask”. If you are just now tuning in, this is where I write the stupid questions I get asked at work. I work retail in a big electronics store, and I am in the computer department.
I will re-add this, as people get whiny. *I know some people do not know about computers and etc., this is a funny blog not make fun of blog.
The originals can be found at my blog. http://devilsfeed.info/
(Man comes marching through the store to the back where I am, can spot this guy from a mile off. He looks angry and has a small black book with him.) Him: Sir why did you not give me a manual with my laptop? Me: ??? Him: I got the set up on my computer and I need a manual, all I got is this (he shows me the quick start guide.) Me: Yeah, laptops do not come with manuals any more. Him: This is not going to work, I need a manual. Me: I’m just a salesman so I do not know why you are coming to me, that is something you have to contact the manufacturer about, as we just sell the computers. Him: No, this is not going to work, I need a manual to reference. Me: You know you can just go online and print the manual, right? Him: Wrong answer, you are going to print the manual for me. At this point I was about to blow my head off, so I just took him to the manager and let them deal with it, he was about to yell at me and I was not going to be told what to do.
(This man with an accent so thick you cannot understand a word he says approaches me.) Him: “Sir, do you have my grow bone?” Me: “What?” Him: “Microphone record digital” Me: “Yeah, follow me” I show him the digital voice recorders. Him: “Do you have one with nuance technology?” After looking at all of them we did not have any, he wanted to use it with the Dragon software which requires nuance on the digital voice recorder Me: “Sorry sir, we do not have it” He then continues to ask the same question to almost every employee in the store, literally. After talking to him I saw him go up to another employee in my department and ask him, he then went to another. 30 minutes later I saw him again asking the same question to someone in the camera department.
(Customer comes in with a black cord. It had been chewed on both ends, so literally all you see is a black cord with stripped wires on both ends.) “I need this” he says. I ask him what the hell it is, his response: “It’s a cord”. Well no shit sherlock, what made you think that. So I ask him again “What does it go to”. “A TV” he says. “Good, this is narrowing it down” I said. “It gives you sound” he says. I just took him over to the TV department.
So the other day we were really really busy in our department and the whole store. I had about 5 people I needed to help before I got to this guy who wanted a laptop. They make us ring up the laptop, and we have to explain the services and stuff before we ring them up. So this guy who is probably about 40-50 years old just keeps following me saying “Are you ready yet?” for like 10 minutes until I could help him. Honestly if I didn’t care about having a job I would have turned around and punched him right in his fucking face.
If one thing about my job pisses me off, it is customers who beg for help when I am obviously busy. This happens at least once a day, but I will be walking up to the front to ring someone out and I will be carrying like 3 boxes and someone just has to ask “Are you busy”, or “can I ask you a quick question?” Bitch, my hands are full and these boxes are heavy, can’t you just wait or ask the 3 employees right next to you that aren’t doing anything? Because this isn’t even my department.
Another thing that pisses me off is; if I am giving you a discount, and offer you something, buy it. People who I can TELL do not know a lot about computers will try to escape spending money for their life. Yeah, it’s reasonable to say you don’t want something, but when I say “hey, this price tag is wrong, instead of 599.99 for the bundle, it is actually 399.99 on the store website, want me to price match it?” Of course you do. But when I say “Hey, we do have a complete set up we can do for you, we have some already to go, so you would not have to wait, and it’s only $30″ and you say no, I just want to drop kick you in the neck. You may not understand this if your bosses aren’t all over your ass about attaching stuff to the sale.

Oh man I loved the guy with the ripped up cord xD
Although I must imagine it must be pretty frustrating for you I know you know, but most people aren't even remotely tech-savy

It actually sounds like you have a pretty fun job. I'd have a blast if I were in your shoes.

I have fun when I meet really cool people and talk with my co-workers (most of us are pretty close friends)

Working in Costumer Service can be a pain in the ass sometimes. I worked in a grocery store for a little while and I remember one time a woman comes up to me holding up some meat and some vegetable and she asked me what she could cook with this stuff and how to do it. Why would someone ask a 18yo "guy" how and what to cook with those ingrediants?
I was just standing there saying I have no idea and send her to an older female employee^^
I soemtimes don't get what people are thinking when they ask you these kind of questions T_T

I actually got one more story from the grocery store^^
I had to bring some stuff to the storage of the store which is basically seperated through a big door (which is open during work hours) from the normal store. You can clearly see that you shouldn't be there that moment you take a look into it. So I was basically bringing stuff back and and doing some stuff for a minute. The moment I turned around standing in teh middle of the storage I see some old guy "wanting to buy the stuff". I was speechless at that moment and just standing there. After a few seconds he noticed me and asked me what the prices are on this stuff, since he can't find where it's written down. I just bursted out laughing at that moment and couldn't stop for like a minutes since he looked so confused and helpless.
After I calmed down I tried to explain him that he can't buy stuff from back here and that he needs to get back in to the store, because this was just a storage.
I always have a good laugh when I think about this situation.
And sorry if I am "stealing" your blog with some of my stories.

You get such a good understanding of the terrible things people are capable of when you work in customer service.

lmao... I love tech support stories... I have a feeling these are going to fade away slowly as the techy generation advances... so get your humour while you can...
That's a hilarious cord story btw...

Hmm i remember this one time at work (as a grocery clerk in a store), the lady at customer service had to go on break and no cashiers were available to take her off, so the manager got me to hold her place. About 2 minutes in, someone comes up to the desk with what appears to be a frozen jug of milk. I ask him how I can help him and he says "does it look like I can drink this to you? I want a new one". Uhhh what the fuck, I'm pretty sure it's impossible to find a frozen jug of milk at our store, but he has a receipt for a jug of milk, so I fetch a new one for him and send him off. As I'm walking back to the dairy cooler in the warehouse I see my buddy down the aisle (works same job as me). We decide to use the frozen jug of milk to play curling down the aisle. It was fantastic lol. After some perfect shots we jumped in the air and gave each other the biggest high five ever. Later on the manager gave us shit because apparently some old person called in to complain that two clerks were sliding frozen jugs of milk down the aisles, being loud, and giving each other five highs in exchange =/
There was another time when I was working and someone came in and asked me if we have shopping carts. Hurp derp... I shook my head and told him we only have baskets just as someone walks by us with a shopping cart (there's lines and lines of them all over the place and outside). He said "okay" and walked off. He must have been really really high

Enjoyed the blog. There are lots of really good employees in the bigger electronics stores around Brighton, but in the smaller ones, there are so many fucking sarcastic, sardonic dickheads who look at you as if you were excrement when you ask them 'can you get these two TVs to show the same thing so I can compare quality?' o.O so although I totally know where you're coming from, it does work both ways sometimes!

It's unfortunate that there is a conflict between the store wanting to attach stuff to the sale, and the customer not wanting to spend money unnecessarily, and that you're caught in the middle of it. The system may be designed to put the pressure on your position, and you may be able to counteract that pressure. Do your spiel with the customer as well as you can, and convince your boss that you're doing the best you can. If something comes up, like your boss wants you to say white lies, or pressure the customer too much, then make the choice that you think is right, and stick to it.

"Not Always Right" is a site with this kind of stuff. Post your stories there too! :D
It's unbelievable how many incidents like this happen though :O I always thought that angry and/or misinformed and/or crazy customers were few...

My parents are those that try to bother employees when they're busy. I have to facepalm and tell them to leave the employees alone. Also, they bug employees about random stuff that is beyond ridiculous. They also have terrible accents and grammar. Joy~
I hate it when I'm browsing and the employees ask me if I needed help. If I needed help, I would ask you! Rage~

I delivered a pizza to some fat bitch who got mad because I came too quickly(no sexual innuendos!). Since she wasn't in her room, I had to call her cell and she just went nuts on me. Since she paid with credit card and didn't write the tip, I wrote in $2 for her. Good thing she never realized =]
