*I know some people do not know about computers and etc., this is a funny blog not make fun of blog.

Ok so I work retail at a big electronic store, I work in the computer department. On a daily basis I get asked these stupid questions that even my grandma knows. Sometimes I will break it down (I love doing this to people who want to learn) other times I just facepalm.

Here are just some examples of what customers ask me (feel free to laugh.)

"Where does the ram go? In the computer, or in a flash drive?"

(Guy comes up to me with 2 boxes, a 320gb WD green, and a 1TB Seagate Barracuda) "What the difference between these 2?"

(Me talking with a customer about a laptop that would be good for her, I start to explain the benefits of having an i3 over a Pentium dual core, her husband approaches.) "How much ram does the i3 have?"

(Customer comes up to me and tells me she needs help finding a Hard Drive. I show her a 2.5" laptop drive. She says "It's bigger than that". I grab a 3.5 inch drive for a desktop. She says "No it's a lot bigger than that." Turns out she wanted the whole tower.) My response: facepalm

(Customer comes up to me and says "I need ROM". I take him to the external and internal CD/DVD rom drives. He says "No, the sticks". I said "Oh, RAM. What kind do you need?" His response: "You tell me.")

(Customer of Indian decent approaches me. "Pull off the laptop and this laptop and get them both down for me. I'm going to go get my iPhone 4 and come back. Don't waste my time, have them ready." Yeah, I'm going to pull down 2 laptops so you can decide between the two when they already are on display, and risk the chance of someone stealing them.) My response: Sorry, they are both out of stock.

(Customer approaches me with his wife looking for a laptop. I start going over all the services we offer, starting with the PC set up. I move on to the Warranty information) "Too many decisions, we will go elsewhere."

These are just some of the scenarios that have happened to me in the past week or so. Let me know if they are funny or just complete fail.

i don't think it's that surprising at all, there is still a huge population out there that are mystified by technology.

if you asked my parents the exactly same questions like where or what a HDD is or get them to differentiate between ram and processor, they would struggle, just like your customers. that's why you are employed and entasked to help them decipher it all. sure it all may seem elementary to you, but i bet a million bux they wouldn't have a clue what is going on.

I don't even know the answers to most of those questions...

Imagine how dumb your math teachers would have though you were if you had the same psychology? Imagine how dumb a financial planner must think the average person is if they had the same psychology?

You have specialized knowledge in the area of computers, and others have specialized knowledge in things you have probably never even heard of.

Ahahahahahaha! That's, so fail. No just kidding, honestly. That's why they come to you! They don't know sh*t so they come to you for advice! I laughed though, I'm thirteen and I know most of this stuff. Of course, I am a computer nerd. I wanted the Indian man to say "be a man do the right thing!" "how much ram does the i3 have." "I need ROM, no the sticks!"

Also why is it that the last couple decided that there were too many options? Was it like 100 on a list?

Still think about the other people specializing in things like medicine. They would boggle your mind, as much as a person your age can have their mind boggled. Once again, I'm thirteen, a lot of things are confusing at my age.
I have an announcement to make, "Moo!" That is all.

I think its funny and fail but you shouldn't be upset. Think of it as your job, and try to help people.

Making a complicated topic simple to understand is the hallmark of an excellent sales person. Hope you don't work on commission!

You seem like a total douche nozzle

One day, you might try to buy a car or a violin or something that you know nothing about and requires expertise. Then you might realize how unfair it is to assume certain things as common knowledge

Do you work at Best Buy? Sounds like a lot of what I hear from customers, although I don't have the elitist attitude making me a good salesman.

Edit: I work at Best Buy as a computer salesman if it was unclear.
This is my quote.

Well when you're buying something as expensive as a computer then you should at least do a little bit of research so that you can ask basic questions, and understand basic terms. Unless you're rich and don't mind being fucked over by a greedy salesperson on commission.

Does it matter where the guy works. He encounters stupid people and it brings up amusing situations. It's perfect.

Exactly what I was going to reply with. I mean I completely understand people not knowing anything about processors, RAM difference, misc. cards such as sound card/NIC, etc, but when you are calling a hard disk a computer tower, have the ignorance of that last guy, etc, you really need to do a bit of research. For example, you don't have to know how to drive a car with a standard transmission, but the average person should know what it is...

Despite wanting to facepalm (for good reasons, I've heard my fair share of stories too) like Mani mentioned, if you are based off of a commission salary, you still need to go above an beyond in order to makes sense of the technology and make a sale.

Really, some simple research can help to increase your tech-literacy by a lot and even most tech-issues you can just go online and get help for free.

These people could save themselves a lot of stress and confusion if only they sat down and thought about things logically or did some research.
No dough, no go. And no mercy.

its not so much the lack of tech knowledge that makes things funny, its the sheer arrogance and bigotry by which customers approach OP that makes things more hilarious.

I love reading stuff like this. If you made a blog dedicating 3 pages of this, I would love every bit of it. It always makes me smile, lol.

I used to work retail... not electronics but I hated it nonetheless. That indian guy and how he talked to you... I'd always make it a goal to waste as much of their time as possible when they speak as if they're all high and mighty. I had someone past the half hour point one time. He left pretty pissed, but I did do everything I could, just very slowly and in the most inefficient way possible, lol.
