Suck it up, dude. I am sure you get paid more than minimum wage. Yes, I do. But I don't get paid enough. I'm the sole developer on this project, which will (when complete) earn this company millions of dollars. I'm not going to see any of that, and the amount of stress by boss puts on me could kill a herd of elephants. At this point I actually wouldn't mind working at McDonalds. At least I'd get free fries. Don't you have some leverage as the sole developer? I mean if you stand up for yourself and they fire you, what will happen to the project? That. I seriously doubt a company will foolishly hire a SINGLE developer for a million-dollar project. If I was a boss supervising this project that can bring me this much money I'd put 10 people, each one with 5+ years of experience with PHP to do it. I think most sane bosses would do the same. You're wrong.
2009 net revenue: $2,950,077.08
Also, I have 12 years of experience with PHP. The day I got here I told him he needed to hire at least 4 more developers and start over. Instead he hired some friend of his to act as the Project Manager. Three weeks later he was fired because all he did was drink and sleep.

My girlfriend loves reading Don Quixote in Spanish and i can write PHP. I dislike both.
I would hate your job too.

Tell your boss you wont be able to do it no exceptions, if you honestly can't do it in that amount of time. I've been in your situation before and that how I handled it. I don't see the problem, you have to point out unreasonable demands if you want to have any shred of respect at your job.

AFAIK you get one free meal a day while working at my local McDonalds.

What do you mean? Are you on co-op? Why would a company get a newbie with no previous knowledge in PHP to develop (solo) a project that is worth one million dollars?
EDIT
Let me give you something more constructive now.
I pull off tons of all-nighters doing my projects and assignments for pretty much nothing except a grade on my transcript. Comparably you are doing something that can be really useful to your future.
Say you did complete this project and it did make the company to earn millions of dollars; then I think that's probably the best thing you can write on your resume. I am sure you are still young; there are many years ahead of you and there will be tons of opportunities for you to make a million dollars. Right now, however, is NOT the time. Right now you should wait and build up your strength.

thats your boss telling you in a subtle way he wants to fire you but cant due to a technicality. ive seen it with slightly disabled co-workers and usually someone that rubbed him/her the wrong way.

I've done plenty of contract jobs and volunteer stuff (ICCup dev), but this is the first time I've been working for a company as a full time developer. I've had to suspend my classes for personal reasons, so I'm only about 75% of the way to a degree.
All that combined with outsourcing = shit job market

that really sucks man. resume time.
and don't kill yourself over an impossible deadline. you know how hard you work, you've got a clear conscience if he fires you.
and yeah, don't quit, look while you're employed -- it's MUCH better that way, for your mental health and in getting interviews.

You can look for a job while keeping it a secret from your current boss that you are looking for a job. This way you can dress your current issue with work however you want to and they won't call asking for a reference (as long as you are up front about the fact that you are currently keeping it a secret from them).

Tip for quitters: Quit AFTER you get a paycheck. Yes, wait it out. And regarding that trashed TV, I'd recommend some anger management? That kind of expression of anger isn't healthy.

That's you, then.
If I was doing this I'd spend all night without sleep trying to get it in my head instead of ranting on TL.

spend less time on TL writing about it, and go learn that code!
not to be a dick or anything... venting helps sometimes, but if I was you I would be either trying to learn that code, or actively look for a new job
everyone has dickhead bosses and it fuckin sucks, but I guess I should make my own thread about my boss making ridiculous demands of me. seriously not tryin to be a dick tho

CS 111, classic SICP @ Northwestern University.
Freshmen come in and complain about the class being in Scheme. Professor shuts them up with "Any computer science student of your level should be able to pick up the fundamentals of a language in about a day."
But anyways, yeah it sucks to be told that on your job. What's the situation? you know PHP and you need to learn C?

If it's about that, then I gotta say, nothing beats work-related stress better than a couple of beers with a bro who's in a crappy job himself

Usually when you have to make a blog about how much you hate your fucking job, it is a good sign you need to find a new one.
Get your resume out there get some interviews then quit when you have a new job lined up, or quit and go get the rest of your degree done.

Summed up, your boss is telling you to do something that is impossible for you to do. While it may be possible for you to do given a longer timeline, the length of time available is making it impossible.
You've expressed this concern to him, and his answer is basically "I don't fucking care, do it".
TBH, he sounds like a shitty boss. If he knows you can't do it, he should try to find a way to extend the deadline to allow you to do it, or give you assistance from someone else that is working for him that could provide some help. If that is not possible, he should be looking for someone who can do this work on a contractual basis (ie, throw a few thousand dollars at him to get it done).
Or he wants to find a way to fire you or something, because he doesn't like you, and he knows someone who could get the job done so it'll show you're "incompetent"..... In which case, he's a douchebag as well as being a shitty boss.
TBH, you've got quite a good reason to hate your boss, not necessarily your job.
